Chapter 52 - CH. 52 - The Consequences of Resisting

Just a bit earlier, shortly after the fights broke out, Professor Nobody sits contently at his desk in their classroom. He sips from a mug filled with a dark liquid before turning the page in a book he's reading.

Suddenly, rapid footsteps are heard outside the classroom before the door swings open. Standing in the doorway is Phoenix, panting and sweating with a worried look on her face.

"Professor, there's a problem." She says with worry in her voice.

"And this requires me specifically?" Nobody asks, not too bothered by her worry. Phoenix gets a slightly upset look at his lackluster response as she steps closer.

"I think so. It's about Wolf and a few others. The Representatives are fighting them." Phoenix says, her face shifting to a weird smile seemingly out of her control as her anxiety spikes. Nobody looks at her a bit.

"The rules on school fighting are clear. As long as they stay on campus and keep their fights limited, they're allowed to solve their own problems unless staff feel otherwise." Nobody responds. Phoenix seems unpleased by this answer.

"Professor, I don't think this is normal. I think.. they're actually trying to hurt my friends." Phoenix says, her weird smile shaking as she clenches her fists. Nobody notices her anxiety spiking and sets his mug down before standing up and approaching her gently, crouching before her due to the height difference.

"Phoenix, I appreciate your concern for your friends but I promise, they'll be okay. The Representatives are harsh and honestly should be knocked down a peg or two, but they aren't villains." Nobody says. His words start to calm Phoenix down as she looks at him. "Besides, it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Your friends are strong, I'm sure they'll handle business. It's not like they're totally wrecking the school or anything."

Professor Nobody says, standing back up and putting his hands on his hips. Just then, an extending, bone covered fist comes flying through the wall of the classroom and smashes straight through Nobody's mug, shattering it to pieces, before exiting.

Phoenix covered her ears for a moment from the loud crash but slowly opens them and her eyes as she looks at Nobody staring at his desk.

"Uh… Professor..?" Phoenix asks. Nobody doesn't move or say a word for a moment before getting an intense look on his face, even through his mask.

"Okay, I think it'd be irresponsible to let these students fight. Let's go stop this now." He says seriously. Phoenix just droops a little at his words.

"Now he wants to help…" She mumbles.

After that, Professor Nobody takes off and ends each fight one by one, knocking each student unconscious instantly with swift action. Nobody takes the students to a small lobby area by some offices and sits them down carefully before contacting Teach.

Sometime later, Henry and Killian make their way over and are surprised to see them along with Saika, Phoenix and Alston there. Saika looks at Killian with surprise and relief.

"Killian! I so glad you're okay!" He shouts while jumping onto him with a tight hug. Killian winces but smiles and laughs anyway.

"Haha, of course I'm okay. It's not like we were trying to kill each other." Killian says. Henry smiles for a moment before noticing Teach and Lady Sharp examining the students. Henry sweats and turns away to leave quietly before being caught.

"Henry!" Teach shouts. Henry stops in fear as Teach marches over. "I've had just about enough of you; doing whatever you guys want! The Representatives are supposed to protect and help the students, not hurt them!"

Teach scolds as he yanks Henry's shoulder down. Henry flinches in pain as he struggles under his grasp.

"Owowowow…" Henry whines. Killian looks at them before speaking up.

"It's not entirely their fault, sensei. Our actions weren't exactly easy to deal with." Killian defends as Teach lets Henry go but looks at Killian just as upset.

"I am well aware of your actions. As usual, you lot do whatever you want without care for the consequences. But not here, not anymore. Here we have rules and proper channels to do things. If you wanted to fight so bad, you should've set up a duel through me and the Reps would have to oblige." Teach lectures.

"Yeah, you guys should really learn the rules." Henry says with a smirk before Teach grabs him by the ear and yanks him up.

"And you should have encouraged them to do so! They're new, they don't know all the inner workings like you do!" Teach scolds Henry again. Killian looks down, disappointed in himself knowing he's right.

"I'm sorry, Teach… I just.. I had to do what I thought was right." Killian says softly. Teach looks at him, his gaze softening, before exhaling.

"That doesn't always mean you were actually in the right."

Teach says as he looks over at the unconscious students. Lady sharp claps her hands together before emitting a soft humming gold light from her hands that cast over the students. One by one, they start to wake up, some wincing in pain while others are more confused.

"Sometimes doing what's right just isn't what should be done." Teach says softly as Killian looks at him. Marcus wakes up and looks around for a moment before getting angry again.

"Hey, what the Hell?-" As he tries to get up, someone interrupts.

"Book of Light: Number 7." Nobody says with two finger pointed up in front of him before thrusting them at Marcus. Suddenly, thin beams of light strike right through Marcus against his shoulders and forehead before instantly disappearing. Marcus looks shocked before slumping back into his chair a bit.

"What did… you do to me?.." Marcus asks weakly as Nobody pats him on the head.

"Just sit tight until you calm down." Nobody says.

Cole starts to sit up and cracks his neck as his wounds start healing thanks to his regeneration. Alston then grabs onto him with a tight hug before grabbing his collar and slamming her head into his with a worried look.

"You're such an idiot." She says softly.

"Ow, I might be healing but it still hurts." Cole says in response as they press their heads together. Yoko wakes up and moves a bit before wincing sharply at the pain in their body.

"Here, let me help you with that." Lady Sharp offers as the same glow from before appears on her hand but more thoroughly this time. She hovers her hand over Yoko as their eyes shine.

"Thank you, kind human." Yoko says softly as Lady Sharp smiles back. As they sit there, Teach steps before them.

"Okay, first things first, you're all busted. I don't wanna hear it was anyone's fault first because it's all your faults. Starting today, you're officially grounded. No missions, no extracurriculars, just class and back to your dorms." Teach says firmly. Dante sits up shocked.

"What??- ow -Wait but that's not fair! We're like new students right? So shouldn't we get like a warning or something?" Dante asks, wincing a little. Teach looks at him with an upset look.

"Your argument is only making it worse. You're new so you should be on your best behavior. You're lucky all I'm doing is grounding you to your dorms and nothing else."

Teach says firmly as Dante droops in his chair a bit. Henry perks up a bit after hearing about the dorms before speaking.

"Teach, about their dorms." Henry says. The others look shocked and worried as Teach turns to look at him. Henry sits for a moment before smirking a bit. "I think that's a good punishment considering how boring the 1st Tiers' dorms are." Henry says. Everyone lets out soft silent sighs in relief as Teach huffs a little before facing them again.

"I hope you'll take this time to reflect on your actions and decisions. Unfortunately, due to your partners actions, that means you'll be joining the rest of your team, you three." He says to Alston, Saika and Phoenix. "The second team of class 1-A will continue on as normal. Now, before I send you off to the infirmary, I want each of you to apologize to the 1st Tiers, Representatives."

Teach commands of them. The Reps look a little shocked but know not to argue back. Without hesitation, Marionette gets up and bows deeply to them.

"I'm so sorry for putting you through all that. I will do my best to not let it happen again." She says honestly. Henry and Samuel then nod softly but truly to them.

"Yes, I can assure you this will not be a regular thing." Henry says as Samuel agrees. Ashi puts her hands together and bows in silence as Keigo copies her before smirking.

"Although that fight was pretty wicked. I wouldn't mind taking another piece or two." He says, looking Yoko's way. Yoko smirks and puts their fist into the air with a giggle. As they do this, Marcus simply clicks his tongue in frustration and looks away still restrained in the chair. Nobody grabs his head and turns him to face them forcibly.

"Apologize, you brat." Nobody says quietly but aggressively.

"No." Wolf says as she stands up, looking down at him. "It's fine. I don't care what he has to say." Wolf says before walking away. Phoenix looks at her concerned.

"Wolfy, don't you wanna be checked out in the infirmary?" She asks.

"No, I've been hurt enough today. Let's just go home." Wolf says softly as she walks off. Phoenix pauses for a moment before following and so do the others. Marcus stares for a moment before Nobody lets go of his head and spell. Marcus falls forward a bit before clenching his fists a few times, relaxing his body. He then glares back at Nobody a bit.

"You should really treat the Reps with more respect." He says.

"I don't give a shit dude. Get out of my office." Nobody says before turning and walking away. The other Representatives understand and leave as well as Marcus mumbles to himself, pouting.

"Yeah well I'm still gonna talk to my father about this…" He whines.

"Your father might be busy for awhile. Might be best to head back to your dorm instead." Teach says clearly as Marcus looks surprised before sharpening his look a bit.

Later that night, well after the sun has set, the pack sits together in the main area of their home, thinking about the events of that day.

"You guys are so stupid!" Moshiro's voice shouts out loudly, making the whole building jump. The six who were fighting stand together with their eyes closed as Moshiro scolds them. "I can't believe I got in trouble along with all of you simply because you wanted to fight! We've been here for less than two months and already we've been grounded!"

Moshiro shouts as the other three step past her and into the home. The six sweat as they take the scolding on the chin. Dante steps forth trying to calm her down.

"Hey, well, to be fair-"

"Shut up, Dante. You're the last person I wanna hear right now." Moshiro says as she crosses her arms.

"Whatever. You didn't even do anything. When they look back at what happened, they'll probably just blame me for throwing the first punch. You're fine." Wolf says with an upset attitude as she walks past her. Moshiro stares at her with upset eyes for a moment before looking back at Dante and speaking.

"I take it back. She's the last person I wanna hear right now." Moshiro says when Yoko steps up, a little timidly.

"Partner human… I'm.. sorry. I just got a little excited, I didn't mean to upset you." Yoko says softly, blushing a little. Moshiro stares at them for a moment before sighing.

"Fine, yeah, whatever. But you're on cooking duty for the next week." Moshiro says, walking away. Yoko smiles happily and follows her. "Actually, I'll cook, you'll probably just end up poisoning me." Moshiro says as they trail off, walking away. The others look at each other, take a deep breath then let it out as they move on from this long day.

Elsewhere in the academy, Marcus walks down a hall with his bag in hand and a bandage on his face. He looks upset as he holds what looks like a necklace in his hand against a scanner by some large doors.

"Teach thinks he can tell me what to do. Dad said he had some work in the basement later. I'll just wait for him there until he gets back."

Marcus says as the doors slowly open up, revealing stairs leading down into a dimly lit hallway. Marcus walks in as the doors shut behind him. As he walks through the corridor, he looks frustrated.

"Stupid Nobody, not giving me any respect. Acting like it wasn't those stupid brats' fault, as if I did anything wrong..!"

Marcus grumbles, getting riled up about it, pulling his fist back in anger about to punch the wall but before he does, he stops and exhales in disappointment, letting his shoulders drop.

After his groan and a moment of silence, he starts to hear something. He perks up as he looks down the hall and continues walking. As he keeps going, the noise becomes clearer and he begins to sweat. It's a voice. Someone speaking, begging almost. The words become clearer as he comes closer to the corner in the hall.

"…no No please! Please, I don't want to die! I have innocent friends, please! I'll- GAHUAH!"

As he speaks, a blood curdling scream is heard as the horrid sound of crunching bones and tearing flesh is heard, blood splashing on the floor. Marcus rushes around the corner anxiously but instantly stops when he sees the sight before him. He shakes a little as his eyes express his intense emotions.

"d-dad..?"

Marcus calls out as he sees a man's lifeless body laying on the floor leaning against large metal doors, a massive hole punched through his chest. Standing before the body is Teach, looking over his shoulder with a serious look, and his father, Southpaw, the greatest hero in the world, with blood covering his arm and splashed across his face. A soft smile on his lips as his dull eyes stare at his son.

Back in the home, the pack hangs out as Saika massages Killian's arm to help him recover and Wolf talks with Phoenix at the table. Tadashi, Dante, and Alston play a card game as Cole and Moshiro talk too. Yoko approaches a window and opens it wide before jumping on the windowsill. Moshiro notices and calls out.

"Hey. What are you doing?"

"I'm just going out for a short flight, I swear." Yoko responds with a smile.

"No, you aren't. We're ground, if they catch you out-" Moshiro says.

"I promise it'll be super quick. Nobody will even notice me!" Yoko says back excitedly. Moshiro stares at them for a moment before closing her eyes and looking away.

"Don't make me regret this." She says. Yoko smiles back.

"I won't!"

They say before jumping out the window and taking off into the night sky. Tadashi watches Moshiro as she looks back, staring at the window.

"Still don't trust them?" Tadashi asks directly. Moshiro doesn't shift her gaze as she hums quietly in response.

Outside, Yoko flies through the air with a smile on their face as the wind flows through their hair and along their wings. They look at their hands for a moment before looking up at the bright moon and the few clouds floating around.

Yoko then closes her fists and squints her face tightly as if holding in a big laugh. They scream with their lips closed as they kick their legs around, throwing their arms out and laughing out loud, just letting their excitement and happy feelings all out. They yip happily as they do a flip through the air.

"My new life is so exciting! This place is so cool, and I love my friends! I don't even care what my life was before this, I never want it to change!" Yoko shouts happily as they whoosh through the air on this beautiful night.

After some time, not long at all, Yoko flies back to their secret home and lands on the grass right outside the house. They smile as they step forward before suddenly stopping. Their eyes widen as they sweat. Their large bat ears twitch and turn back to a seemingly inaudible noise behind them. From the darkness of the shadows comes a man taking a couple steps forward.

"How are you? Yoko Tatsuo."

The man asks. This man is familiar. He is the same man who was attacked by the serial killer a time ago. The one who Wolf felt concerned about. Yoko slowly turns around to look at him as their eyes stay focused on him.

"I'm glad to see you doing so well. Considering what happened the last time I saw you." He says. Yoko begins to shake a little as they stare at the man.

"m- ma- ma-.." Yoko stutters as the man smirks.

"Maxus." He says for them. Yoko stares at him for a moment before a sharp ringing starts in Yoko's ears as they bend down and grab their ears, their eyes shaking intensely.

"Oh, is it finally all coming back?" Maxus says as he steps next to Yoko before turning and crouching down next to them. "That night seems so long ago now." He says as Yoko thinks of that night, the night they met Wolf and Moshiro and what happened just before.

A while ago now, floating through the night sky is a familiar figure. Their wings outstretched large and wide as their tail whips around ever so slightly. They look down upon the city below with sharp eyes. Yoko stands here dressed in an outfit unlike anything seen before, almost like a noble's clothes.

As Yoko floats here, gazing at the sights below, a man suddenly appears behind them. As he speaks, Yoko's eyes grow wide with shock.

"My, you've really come a long way. And in such a short time. You sure you didn't use a Sanir Portal?" Maxus says. Yoko turns sharply with defensive body language.

"Maxus?? How did you find me?" Yoko asks intensely while sweating a bit.

"You're not exactly subtle. You're horrible at hiding your presence. Maybe that's why your family hates you so much." Maxus says with dull eyes and an evil smile. Yoko grits their teeth angrily.

"Fuck you!" They shout as smoke pours from their mouths and they fire a blast breath at him. Maxus simply puts his hand up and easily blocks the fire.

"Now now, let's not be so rash."

"I'm not going back! I don't care how many fetch dogs she sends after me, I'm never going back!"

Yoko shouts as they dash towards him extremely fast and slam their leg against him, trying to kick him in the head, but Maxus casually blocks with one arm. In response, Yoko quickly grabs onto his neck with their large beast claw and holds tight.

Maxus raises his eyebrows a bit, surprised by the move, before slowly raising his other hand and grabbing onto Yoko's throat. His grip is powerful as Yoko flinches before letting go and grabbing onto his wrist, choking a bit.

"Listen very carefully. You work for me now." Maxus says as Yoko struggles under his grasp. Yoko opens one eye as they glare at him.

"Why would I ever work for a servant of the family?.." Yoko chokes out. Maxus rolls his eyes a bit.

"No, I don't work for them. Think.. a bit higher up." Maxus says with an evil smirk. Yoko looks shocked, understanding his words.

"You… why would a dragon..?"

"Ah. Careful. Too many questions could get you killed." Maxus says, tightening his grip a bit. "I don't care what happens to your family, and it seems you don't either. So what do you say? Work for me, and you'll know power unlike anything you've ever seen."

Maxus offers with an evil smile on his face as he looks at them with empty eyes. Yoko struggles under his grasp for a moment before a slight smirk spreads across their face as they open their eyes at him, their pink pupils shining brightly.

"How about you kill yourself instead?.." Yoko spits out.

Maxus looks at them for a moment before chuckling to himself a bit. He lifts his head and looks at Yoko as he starts opening his mouth. Yoko's eyes widen as a bright light starts to glow from inside Maxus's mouth.

"Lukarn."

Maxus says as a large energy blast fires at Yoko point blank, blasting them off and hitting them with force they've never known. They fly through the air in a ball of light as they pass out from the force. Maxus stays floating in the air as he stares at them falling.

Back at their home, Yoko stands and starts shaking more as their eyes widen. Their soul starts to pulse and shake aggressively as they panic. Maxus smiles evilly as he walks around them.

"There you go. Is it all back now? Who you are? Where you came from?" He leans close in their ear. "What you're going to do next?" He says in their ear before standing back as Yoko's eyes express their extreme panic.

"Listen very carefully. You work for me now." He says again. "You're going to help me achieve my goal here on this planet. You will do as you're told when I tell you to. And if you think for a second about disobeying me." Maxus crouches down beside them as he speaks softly.

"I'll kill you and everyone in this building. I'll kill you painfully." He says as Yoko shakes, thinking about their friends and the wonderful times they've had. He gets up and leans in close.

"Are you thinking about it?" He asks as Yoko quickly shakes their head. He smirks as he stands up, looking in the window at Wolf specifically. "Good. Now let me tell you about the first thing you're going to do."

Maxus says before he continues. As he speaks, everything goes mute. His lips move, but it's like nothing is heard. But Yoko hears it. Their eyes widen as he instructs them. Yoko clenches their shaking fists so hard their sharp nails draw blood from their palms. After a moment, Maxus stops talking and turns around to walk away.

"I know you won't disappoint me." Maxus says before disappearing into the night. Yoko stands there as their head hangs low. Tears begin to fall to the ground as Yoko starts crying to themself, still shaking as they stand alone on this cold, empty night.
