Chapter 85 - Chapter 85: One Must Fall Before They Fly

While Eric and Nasak had a territory battle with the owner of the training room that they had "found" Alix was doing her own thing. Her morning training with Vance and Instructor Bizen was first on the list. A class that Alix absolutely dreaded because they were very adamant on keeping her on the Martial path.

Despite all of Alix's attempts to break from the path. "I keep telling you two that I am a Sorceress!" Alix shouted while blocking an attack from Instructor Bizen. An attack that still pushed the girl back.

"And we keep telling you that we're low on talented knights, like yourself, so we need you to finish the course. I don't care if you want to sit in a lab all day drawing on pieces of paper!" Bizen rushed at Alix brandishing a practice blade.

Alix and Bizen spent most of these training sessions arguing about Alix's being in this path yet being unable to leave. Meanwhile, Vance just stood to the side watching. He would have been continuing his own practice but Rasque took all of his training equipment and doesn't give it back until the class is over. A class, mind you, that he didn't know that he was going to be giving and hasn't even been a part of for the past week!

"Why am I even here?" Vance questioned to no one in particular. He knew why he was here. It's because it was his office and he had nowhere else to go. Alix and Bizen continued attacking each other ferociously trying to create openings in the other's defenses when suddenly.

"RIIINNNNG!!" The bell rang. It seemed that the class had ended. Alix and Rasque stood opposite of each other breathing heavily covered in dirt and sweat. Alix clicked her teeth.

"You could at least go all out while fighting me. That would make this training feel at least a little more exciting." Bizen shook her head.

"Kid, you barely keep up with me while I'm using this short sword. Why do you think you'd be able to keep up with me at full strength?"

"I'm not saying I could keep up." Alix corrected. "I'm just saying that if I saw one of my mother's old comrades fight at full strength I may be able to gain bit of insight about the life that she use to live." Bizen chuckled half-heartily.

"Like you care about your mother's past. You act like you don't even want to be in this university, so why would I give you the privilege of seeing me fight at full power?" Alix frowned at the woman.

"I really can't stand you, Business." Business was the name that Alix had begun calling instructor Bizen. The name brought an unimpressed look onto the woman's face which filled Alix with just a tinge of happiness.

"You and your childish pet names." Vance clapped his hands together hard getting the attention of student and instructor alike.

"Alright! The class is done! Now, please evacuate my office and return my training equipment so that I can get back to my work." Alix nodded and moved over to grab her stuff.

'Look on the bright side Lexi. I can tell that yer really improving a whole lot! I bet you'd be even better at fighting while using the Abyssal Sea with yer martial arts!" Mo complimented.

'I have no problem with improving my martial prowess, Mo. I would just rather focus on comprehending new theories on magic and improving my current spells than running around sweating all day while swinging at people." Mo nodded.

'I guess I wouldn't really know that feeling. Fish don't really sweat, we're already in the water!" Alix looked at Mo from the side of her eyes.

'That's true, but I've seen what that bowl of yours looks like by the end of the day. I'd say that's a whole lot worse than a bit of sweat." Mo shrugged.

'Hey, your not the one that's cleaning it. Ya make me do that myself. Why are we even talking about this?" Alix sighed.

'I'm just trying to get through the day, Mo. I just don't understand why the Djinn's took Nuka?" Alix had been wracking her brain since she woke up this morning. Why did the Djinn's show up at her house just to take Nuka? Who the hell would hire a group of nobodies to kidnap an innocent bird like Nuka?

And where was Trouler? Alix had a lot of things weighing on her mind. Things that she would rather not focus on so she was trying to distract herself. Focusing on different unpleasant parts of her day would serve to help her feel better.

"I need to get through this day so I can go find the two of them. Until then..." Alix took a deep breath in to calm her nerves. "I need to find a way to get out of this path."

"Why not stray?" Alix jumped when a voice suddenly responded to her question. She looked at the surroundings and realized that she had made it to the library. She must have been deep in thought for quite sometime if she was already here.

She turned to the owner of the voice who was Denver, of course. "Do I even want to know what you mean by stray?" Denver smiled gently at Alix.

"I think you know the face behind the veil but you are refusing to acknowledge it." Alix stared at Denver confused.

"Why are you the way that you are?" Denver flinched at the question.

"That was as painful as being pelted with rocks. Is that how you ask a person for help or is it the mask that you put on when you wish to avoid having your emotion's read?" Alix rolled her eyes.

"Lexi, I don't think this guy is one that you can break with words alone. In fact, words seem to be his whole thing."

"Just stop speaking in vague terms and tell me what you mean by stray!" Denver nodded.

"I understand. You are tired of the wall of nonsense. You wish to have the answer laid before you like the path to the next town. Sadly, in the journey of life, the paths have not yet been laid as you are your own path maker." Denver had a tranquil smile on his face as he looked at Alix.

"You still haven-"

"Sometimes..." Denver cut Alix off. "Sometimes we mortals stand on the edge of a cliff while looking toward the sky wondering how we could possibly achieve flight like the birds. When we forget that young chicks too need a push before they can begin flying." Alix's eyes slowly widened as she finally put together what Denver was saying.

"You're saying that if I want to enter the Spellcaster Uni, that I need to drop my rank first! Right?" Denver nodded.

"The message hidden in words is most often revealed by erasing a few." Alix was now ignoring anything else that left Denver's mouth because he was now just speaking nonsense. The answer had been right in front of her the entire time.

'I need to drop my class. And the easiest class to fall into is F-class! I just need to break the rules of the school." Mo watched as Alix started concocting a sinister plan.

"Those instructors. They are going to wish that they let me transfer out of the Martial Uni because I am about to make a mess of this entire school." Alix looked at Mo with a gleam in her eye.

"And you shall be my accomplice. Right Mo?" Mo saluted his fin without any hesitation.

"Just tell me what to do captain!" Alix smirked.

"First, we need to pay a visit to the Den of the Fools. I need to get closer to their leader."
