Chapter 7 - Forsake Thy Brothers

RECAP:

"We are at war but we leave the children out of it. Now tell me whe-" Hela interrupted with light frustration coating her tone.

"There are no children!"

"Then why did you call this negotiation" Heimdall said with a curious look.

Hela took her time and lowered her voice before responding.

"I need your help, I am with child-"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heimdall interrupted with a shocked look.

"With child, what do you mean by that?

She ventured closer and eased the side of the coat which hid the Valia.

"Whose child is that…did you…create her…you know that is-"

"No!" Hela shouted and continued more softly.

"No,…she is my flesh and blood. She is my daughter. I need you- to protect her…keep her safe and hidden. In this war, she is all I care for and nothing else."

Heimdall said coolly.

"How do you know I won't use her against you?"

"Because I have known you for thousand of years and as you spoke of. This war is between us and not our children"

A silence fell between them. None made a move. Staring that is all they did, stare at each other answering the silent question that lingered in the tense atmosphere around them.

"Who fathered your child?" Heimdall asked gazing sympathetically at the baby girl who watched him with the look only an angel could give even though her mother was the goddess of death and Queen of Valhalla.

"I shall not say for he mustn't, never know about the child's existence no matter what happens. She is mine and she will remain mine only. Yet I believe with your insight you find out things in your own way." Hela replied, clutching Valia a bit tighter.

Heimdall agreed after more persistence from Hela.

Before giving her child up, Hela placed the pendant around Valia's neck and kissed her one last time. She then handed her to Heimdall. Who then handed her an empty scroll to write whatever she wished would be of need to the child.

She handed the scroll back and almost immediately the markings on Valia started to glow a bright blood red and the babe began to cry.

"There are Frost giants nearby and I am sure they wouldn't want us here any more than we already were."

Heimdall stared at the babe in his arms who whimpered slightly. She must have untapped potential if she could sense creatures that cloaked at such a delicate age and this intrigued him greatly.

"I will distract them whiles you leave this place. Safe from harm and not a word…I am telling you not a word to anyone about the child or this negotiation." Hela said the last part in a fierce tone.

...........

Time went by and so did the war. Hela now had new priorities but nothing would stop here from trying to take Asgard. If not for her then for her daughter who was thriving away from this chaos, the bloodshed.

The distance pained her dearly but she held strong. Imagining her daughter in a beautiful place, filled with good people. Growing up to become powerful just the way she wanted her too.

In the end, her motivation was not enough. Defeated by her father, Odin himself and banished to the underworld never to return. He couldn't bare killing his own, so a lifetime of exile with no return would serve as hopefully enough penance for the 'Death Queen'.

Heimdall took care of Valia but feared for her survival after the war. He knew it was too dangerous so with due preparation and lot of convincing he sent her to Helheim to live in the court of the youth goddess, their high priestess, Iduna.

Helheim was a beautiful realm with a thriving civilization and endless landscape the eye could see, an ideal place for a young goddess to grow.

Iduna, took care of children and trained them to be priests and priestesses living a life as she would.
