Lucas POV
Gosh, why did she have to come here now, of all times? With Kira standing right here, she'll find out Sophie isn't my girlfriend.
I didn't think twice. My hand shot out and I pulled Sophie against me. She gasped, yelping at the sudden move, her wide eyes glaring up at me.
"Babe, why did you come late? You know I've been waiting for you," I said, forcing a smile as I pressed a quick kiss against her cheek.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Kira's face flush crimson. Her jaw clenched, and she looked like she was about to combust. She honestly resembled a tomato ready to burst — and for some twisted reason, I loved it.
"Lucas, what's going on?" Kira demanded, her voice shaking with barely contained rage.
"What the heck?!" Sophie shouted, struggling against my grip.
I tightened my hold, lowering my mouth to her ear before she could push me away. "Play along, and I'll pay you. Please." My voice was urgent, desperate.
