Chapter 4 - The Guild

"Sorry miss… Anne, we know you went through a horrible experience, but before you're escorted back to your village, you need to answer some questions." Leo, chief of the justice department of the guild, reads his notes to verify what he was told before. "Can you truthfully say that this 'man' Cosmo, was the one that rescued you and the other slaves?"

The girl, Anne, looks around. "Yes, he was the one that saved us." She answers quietly.

"All by himself?" Leo asks, aware of the fearsome reputation of the Boar Bandits, known for their ruthless blitz tactics of raiding and looting with at least 30 members strong. He finds it almost unbelievable that a single person could go against that group big, unscathed, especially against the leader their leader, Kurn of the Iron Belly. A man known for his absurd strength with uncanny agility, many bounty hunters and guild members lost their lives just trying to claim the bounty on his head alone. But for a single man to defeat him and his entire group, Leo and the rest of the guild members couldn't help but be cautious.

"Yes…" Anne answered.

"Did he use some kind of skill or poison? When asking the others, they said that they saw him touch them and they fell." Leo asks, trying to line up the information he got from the others.

"I didn't see that part, I was able to free myself and ran but I fell and was knocked out, when I woke up, the others were freed and searching the camp for supplies." Anne looks down, shuddering from an unpleasant memory. "But the bodies… the bandits… they… they…"

"What about them?"

"Dead? I don't know..." Anne covers her face, trying her best not to shudder at the horrors she saw. "They twitched and moaned, faces twisted and crying." Anne takes a deep breath, "A lot of them begged to be killed… but he told us not to touch them and ignore them, 'let them dream' he said." Anne hated them, they took her from her home and hurt her, but what she saw was something else, inhuman and cruel. "They were in pain..."

"You can stop now Anne," Leo saw that the girl was reaching her limit. "Thank you for telling me and no worries, we'll make sure you're sent home safely." Leo packs his notes and leaves the room. 'Cosmo… what in the hells are you…" Leo takes a deep breath before entering the room containing that very man.

"Sike was such a cutey, when he tasted jeweled salmon for the first time, that was all he wanted to eat. It was such a chore trying to feed him anything else." As Leo enters the room to see his associate, Carla, a guild investigator, happily talking to Cosmo about her familiar.

"He sounds like a handful." Cosmo cheerfully responds, his voice smooth and deep, a far cry from the way he looks.

"Yeah, but that comes with being a familiar owner, Hey I know of a-" Carla was cut off by Leo coughing. She suddenly turns to look at Leo and then back at Cosmo, she suddenly feels embarrass. "Uh, Leo Sir!" She stands to attention, "I was just finishing up the interview, sir!"

"At ease Carla," Leo couldn't help but let out a sigh and hands her his notes. "Please go and compile a report, I'll finish up here." Carla quickly grabs the files and leaves the room, but not before turning back to have one last look at Cosmo.

"Take care Carla." Cosmo winks at Carla, making her blush deeply before she continues rushing out.

"Ahem," Leo clears his throat before sitting down. "Cosmo, Age 21, no last name, orphan, joined the guild two years ago with a record of only taking minor quests like item retrieval, herb gathering and recon." Leo sits down to meet Cosmo's stares, his was gaze strangely alluring. Even for a veteran like Leo, it was difficult to not be attracted to someone like Cosmo. Leo tries to clear his mind by focusing on the task. "We were able to match the statement of others and determined you were telling the truth, but with a case like this, a evaluation of your rank and skills will need to be done before you are compensated for your work." Leo takes out a sheet of paper and places a measuring orb and sets it on the table "Simply place your hand on the orb and we can begin."

Cosmo places his hand on the orb and the paper beneath it starts to be filled with simple information, stats and level. Once it was finished, Leo pulled out the paper.
