A soft stream of light slipped through the curtain and touched Jessica's cheek. She stirred a little but didn't wake up. Instead she smiled in her sleep as she snuggled closer to Damon, who was still tucked against.
Damon was awake already but he lay still, not wanting to move and wake her. He had slept late and had woken up quite early because he had a lot on his mind.
Jessica's arm lay across his waist, and her cheek was resting on his bare chest. She looked very peaceful and it made him wonder if she'd made up her mind about what to do about the pregnancy.
He could still feel the heaviness of last night. He hadn't missed the way her eyes had welled up with fear and worry, or the relief in them when he held her and said they were in it together.
He smiled faintly.
Had she really for a moment thought he'd be mad at her for getting pregnant? Or had she expected him to reject her and the pregnancy?
