Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Dreamsphere

With haste steps, Ariane walked into Elian's office.

She has been extremely busy all day, attending meetings after meetings, continuing to work as a secretary, taking care of her boss, and doing numerous other important tasks.

Giving him his coffee and reminding him they have a meeting in fifteen minutes was now the appropriate course of action.

She got into the office to see Elian seated on his chair as he intently read some files.

"S-sir...I'll refill your coffee." She said and walked to him.

He totally ignored her as he kept on reading some papers.

She took his coffee mug, gave it a quick wipe with her towel, and then poured coffee from the flask into it.

'I will need to get more coffee,' she thought, dropping the mug on the table near the other empty mug he used for drinking coffee.

She picked up the empty mug, leaving the coffee-filled mug nearby.

"The presentation meeting with J Enterprises is scheduled to begin in 13 minutes, sir." She said, gazing at him as he read the papers carefully.

She bowed and turned to leave when she heard his deep voice.

"What rubbish Is this?" He spoke in a calm but firm tone.

Her eyebrows furrowed as she turned to face him and saw that he was staring at her.

"S-sir?"

"What does you call this?" Elian said as he raised the file up so she could see the cover.

Squinting her eyes, she recognized the cover. It was the document she created. Is there a problem with the one she was asked to create?

"This is the analysis of the statistics, sir." She replied a little confused.

"So you call this statiscal analysis?"

"I-is something wrong sir? I did a double check on them-" she said as she tried to move forward to defend the papers.

"Why don't you go for a brain check if you can not locate the mistake? It means you are not qualified for it." He said a bit harshly which made her stop on her tracks.

"Do the grades, diplomas, and certificates belong to you?" He asked again, this time squinting his eyes.

Ariane could feel his words weakening her body.

She lowered her head slowly, her expression gloomy.

"I-I am sorry, sir." She said she saw him throw some files to the far end of the table.

"Make a new one." He spoke as his hands reached for the next document.

Upon seeing her work strewn on the table, Ariane's eyes welled up with tears.

Even though she had spent the entire night perfecting it, he still found flaws.

She went to pick it up, lowering her gaze, then bowed and left the office.

She arrived at her table outside his office and settled into her chair.

She closed her eyes and pressed her head against her table to hold back her tears.

Her acerbic boss trashed the documentation she has done without even encouraging her as it was her first time doing it their company way.

He also questioned her qualifications....

'No Ari, you are brave, don't let it get into you.' she encouraged herself and raised her head up and looked forward at his door.

"I can do this. Yes, I'm more than capable...even though his words were quite hurtful.... "Okay, I am not giving up," she said, looking at the file.

She exhaled before opening the file.

"I need to locate the error." She muttered and glanced at her watch.

Only 8 minutes until the meeting begins.

"Oh, I found the error. Miscalculation..." She muttered before grabbing her laptop.

~ minutes later. ~

In a boardroom with a modern aesthetic.

Elian sat quietly in his chair, staring at the screen in front of him at the end of the table. A man stood in front of the screen after delivering the presentation.

While another man, Mr. Smith, exudes an intimidating yet cheerful demeanour.

Another man stood beside him, most likely an assistant.

Mr.smith smiled as he looked at Elian, who had been quietly staring at the screen for several minutes now, after his (Elian's) Delegate had presented their new invention, Dreamsphere.

"I suppose the presentation is over, Mr.Elian. was not particularly impressive. Well, we will think about it." Mr. Smith said and was about to stand up when Ariane spoke.

"Th-that is not all about 'Dreamsphere' sir." She said, stopping them though Elian had something different in mind.

Elian was a bit taken aback to hear Ariane speak.

He turned to her and narrowed his eye.

" Dreamsphere is more than a VR headset-"

" You are just a secretary, how would you know about this?" Mr. Smith questioned, gazing at Ariane, who was quite bold to interrupt him.

Meanwhile, Elian kept staring at Ariane with narrowed eyes.

Ariane just kept looking forward, no one in particular.

"Seems like your employees aren't ready for the presentation. How about another day to schedule another meeting?" Smith asked as he turned to Elian who kept staring at Ariane.

"Not needed. Miss Niles. We all would like to hear what you have to say. Go on." Elian said which made Ariane turn to him to see him staring at her so intently.

"W-what?" She asked, a bit surprised.

She didn't expect him to tell her that, she didn't just want the man to leave without hearing a proper explantation about the new invention.

The man at the screen moved to side.

Ariane slowly looked around to see them all staring at her.

'you can do this Arie..." She said inwardly and then sighed.
