Whoosh!!!
A sharp sound cut through the air as the three legendary birds released their Sacred Fire attack, streaking directly through the sky like a blazing comet. They burst through the thick smoke clouds, emerged from the other side, and charged straight toward Dragonite with incredible force.
"Dragonite, dodge!" Lance shouted urgently.
Upon hearing his trainer's command, Dragonite immediately soared higher into the sky. The Dragon Pokémon's natural speed was remarkable - it could circle the entire globe in just sixteen hours when flying at full capacity.
Although the three legendary birds had grown significantly stronger after their forced fusion, their speed hadn't improved much. In fact, their unnatural combined form made their movements awkward and uncoordinated. This actually made them slower than before. Dragonite easily evaded the Sacred Fire attack and climbed to a higher altitude.
However, the Three Sacred Birds maintained their Sacred Fire formation as they continued rising into the sky, pursuing their target. Both combatants now hovered at high altitude, circling each other like aerial predators.
Lance followed closely on his Aerodactyl, observing the battle unfolding before him. He glanced back at Rainbow City sprawling below them, its lights twinkling in the darkness.
"Good! Just like that - try to keep the battlefield as far from the city as possible!" he called out.
High in the sky, Dragonite used its speed advantage to stay ahead of the Three Sacred Birds, preventing them from closing the distance. From his position on the distant helicopter, Archer frowned as he watched the chase. He reached for the control device once more, his fingers dancing across its buttons.
Screech!!!
The three legendary birds let out a unified roar as they received new commands through the device. The brilliant light of Sacred Fire dispersed around them.
Simultaneously, all three launched a devastating Tri Attack. Three different elemental beams erupted at once: a freezing Ice Beam, a powerful Thunderbolt crackling with electricity, and a scorching Flamethrower.
Dragonite sensed the immediate danger and quickly turned its head to assess the incoming attacks. It dove to the left first, narrowly avoiding the powerful Thunderbolt that sizzled through the air where it had been moments before. Then it banked sharply to the right, evading the Ice Beam that could have frozen its wings solid.
However, the Flamethrower was perfectly timed to intercept this evasive maneuver. Dragonite tried to dodge again, but the Ice Beam and Thunderbolt had effectively blocked off its escape routes. There was no time to avoid the third attack, and the Flamethrower struck Dragonite squarely in the back.
Boom!!!
"Roaaaar!" Dragonite cried out in pain.
The impact created a massive explosion in the night sky. The force of the blast sent Dragonite tumbling through the air, its body plummeting toward the ground. By unfortunate coincidence, it fell directly toward the public park in the heart of Rainbow City.
Dragonite's body crashed into the artificial lake at the center of the park with tremendous force. The impact was so violent that it sent huge sprays of water shooting high into the air, creating waves that lapped against the lake's shores.
The Three Sacred Birds descended slowly from the sky toward the artificial lake, their forms silhouetted against the night. As they approached, they began charging another Tri Attack, energy building around their merged form.
Although they couldn't see exactly where Dragonite had landed, it was only a small artificial lake. The combined power of the three legendary birds would be more than enough to evaporate every drop of water, leaving their opponent with nowhere to hide.
Lance arrived on his Aerodactyl just in time to witness what had happened. His eyes showed slight concern as he took in the scene below.
"Dragonite, use Twister!" he commanded.
Just as the three legendary birds were about to unleash their devastating combined attack, Lance's voice rang out clearly. Suddenly, massive waves began forming on the surface of the artificial lake.
A whirlpool gradually took shape on the water's surface, spinning faster and faster. With a tremendous roar, the vortex erupted from beneath the water, creating an incredible rotating force.
A waterspout shot up from the lake bottom, carrying tremendous power as it swept up the surrounding water. It struck the three legendary birds from directly below, and the amazing force drew all three of them into its spiraling embrace.
The Three Sacred Birds found themselves trapped within the waterspout created by Twister. Large amounts of water sprayed everywhere as Dragonite's figure burst up from beneath the lake's surface.
Its eyes remained sharp and focused. Although it had been hit by the previous attack, Dragonite's Dragon typing meant it wasn't particularly vulnerable to Fire-type moves.
While the individual attacks had been qualitatively improved after the three legendary birds' fusion, the primary characteristic of an Elite Four Champion's Pokémon was its incredible durability and stamina.
"Dragon Rush!" Lance called out.
Seeing the Three Sacred Birds trapped within the tornado, Lance didn't waste the opportunity, even though he couldn't clearly see his opponents through the swirling water. He launched his counterattack immediately.
"Roaaaaaaar!!!"
Dragonite's powerful cry echoed across the park as its body shot rapidly upward. Brilliant blue energy began emanating from around its form, growing brighter and more intense.
This energy released a deafening roar of its own, and the power directly transformed into the shape of a massive blue dragon.
The energy dragon roared with bared fangs and outstretched claws, diving down from high above and crashing directly into the waterspout.
Boom!!! CRASH!!!
When Dragonite's Dragon Rush collided with something solid within the waterspout, an explosive impact rang out instantly.
Splash! Splash! Splash!!!
The waterspout's form suddenly lost its balance and began shaking violently. Then, with a tremendous explosion, the towering tornado burst apart completely.
Water rained down from the sky like a storm, and the figures of the three legendary birds fell from the air, crashing back into the artificial lake with loud splashes. The energy around Dragonite gradually faded, but it remained alert, watching the situation below with intense focus.
"Hmph! You don't think it's over that easily, do you?" From his helicopter, Archer looked down at the scene and sneered coldly.
BOOM!!!
The moment Archer finished speaking, a loud explosion echoed from below. The water in the artificial lake was blasted apart by some tremendous force, sending massive sprays shooting high into the air.
The figures of the Three Sacred Birds appeared simultaneously within the water spray, releasing a long cry of pure rage. Light began radiating from their bodies once more as the power of Sacred Fire exploded around them again.
The surrounding water sprays were blown away by this overwhelming force. Then they charged directly toward Dragonite's position with renewed fury.
"Dodge it!" Lance shouted.
Hearing the command, Dragonite quickly dropped to a lower altitude and began flying over the lake's surface. The Three Sacred Birds gave chase immediately, closing the distance rapidly.
Dragonite glanced back over its shoulder, then rushed toward the dense jungle area of the park ahead. The Three Sacred Birds followed relentlessly behind it.
Under the devastating impact of Sacred Fire, alarming explosions continued to echo throughout the jungle. Trees collapsed one after another, and thick smoke filled the air between the branches.
Dragonite burst out of the woods and soared high into the sky once more. Lance looked back toward the forest, and moments later, the Three Sacred Birds also emerged from the smoke-filled trees.
"Hyper Beam!" Lance commanded.
Boom!!!
Upon hearing the order, Dragonite turned to face the direction where the three legendary birds were approaching and launched its attack. In the dark night, the brilliant light of Hyper Beam was particularly dazzling as it erupted with incredible force.
The Three Sacred Birds faced the powerful beam of light coming from above, maintaining their Sacred Fire formation as they charged forward without hesitation.
BOOM!!!
The two forces collided in a spectacular display of power. The Sacred Fire cut through like a sharp blade, slicing through the mighty Hyper Beam. Maintaining their divine bird formation, they rushed toward Dragonite at incredible speed, their combined attack proving superior to even one of the most powerful Normal-type moves.
