Scar lowered her head at Quinlan's command, obediently answering. "We were invited by Kaede Fujimori to her manor in the capital. She extended to us an offer, a quest. We were asked to aid her. She said that if she succeeded, she would be able to break the barrier that keeps the continent of Iskaris sealed away from the rest of the world."
The air instantly tensed.
Quinlan asked this question because he assumed they were acting as mercenaries for hire. If he offered them more money than Kaede had, then maybe they would give up on their mission. Well, perhaps not him personally, because he doubted Lilith would accept any money he offered.
But this seemed no longer to be on the table. Kaede offered them something he could not match, for he had no idea how to remove the barrier.
He'd already visited it once, and when he went into the water, he found himself teleported back a few paces. Tunneling underground or flying did not solve the problem.
Iskaris was sealed very tightly.
