Silence followed. Scar didn't answer immediately. Her lips parted, closed, and parted again as if she was struggling to summon the words. Confusion showed on her face. Her eyes darted around as though searching for something to help the woman find her answer. Finally, she lowered her gaze. Her voice was faint, uncertain.
"I… think I would like it."
For the briefest moment, there was a spark in her eyes as she lifted them toward Quinlan. She quickly turned away, but he caught it.
A quiet chuckle escaped him at the sight. He was happy with her answer. "You'll have plenty of time to sort your feelings out. It must all still feel very new to you."
He leaned back, satisfied. "But it seems you're not an emotionless husk. That makes me curious to see how you'll develop from here. For now, I can promise you this: I despise child abusers with all my heart, and I will fight for your cause."
"!!" Scar's body jolted at his declaration.
