VOLUME 2 – THE SON OF NIGHT: START!
Goth Thunder: I'm free.
More than anything at the moment, I stared at that message intensely.
Thalia had sent that message to the group chat while I was still at Akiza's house and suddenly fallen completely silent, causing the others to worry as they kept trying to message her and get her to return their messages, but to no avail.
Even Byleth, the most emotionally stunted among us, had expressed concern for Thalia.
I, however, knew very well what that message meant. Thalia had escaped her tree… Which meant that the Golden Fleece had been retrieved in Thalia's world and used on her tree, healing it and also allowing her to escape her prison.
As I cuddled with Akiza on my couch- the two of us having left her house a while ago- I turned my eyes to the new notification in the chat that had come before Thalia suddenly became silent.
A New World Mission has been made available! All members, please check as soon as possible!
A world mission… In other words, a mission leading to another world…
God, I sounded obvious when I thought it like that.
I held Akiza a bit tighter, the girl curling into me with a pleased little smile on her face as I opened up the details of the World Mission.

'So… It's Titan's Curse.'
The third book of the Percy Jackson series, Titan's Curse.
The book took place around the time of the Winter Solstice, around December 2007. Starting with Percy, Thalia, and Annabeth going to Westover to meet with Grover, Nico, and Bianca. The main focus of the story was Annabeth's capture by the Titan's, and then the group going on a quest to save Artemis from under the sky.
It was the first book of the series to show actual character death, if my memory wasn't failing me- I didn't count those ghosts on Clarisse's ship, nor did I count Gabe. Bianca and Zoe both died during the quest, the first hint of what was to come for the future of the series- and the 'official' beginning to the war with the Titans.
I couldn't help but wonder… Why was the objective blank? Was it to prevent us from having spoilers? Or was this telling us that Artemis going under the sky wasn't set in stone? That it was possible that another goddess- or another person- would be trapped under the sky instead?
Apollo? Maybe Athena? Truthfully, it was impossible to tell… It was just that Artemis was the most likely.
I took a deep breath and then exhaled… First things first, I had to talk about this with Akiza.
"Akiza," I spoke up, "The chatroom just gave a World Mission."
She looked up. "… A mission that's taking you to another world?" She sounded a bit upset.
"Yes," I nodded. "Don't worry, no time is going to pass while I'm gone."
"But what if you don't come back?" She asked, worried. "You're not going to a world with duelling, are you?"
"If I'm right, Duel Monsters does exist, but it's only a card game. No holograms, no nothing… It even has animated series and manga about it, but otherwise Duelling is pretty much non-existent."
"Then-!"
"But," I cut her off, "As part of the quest, we'll temporarily become demigods and also receive an extra gift permanently just for taking part in the quest."
She stayed quiet for a moment. "You've already made up your mind, haven't you?"
"Yes."
She buried her face into the crook of my neck. "You're so selfish."
"Yes."
"A total jerk."
"Yes."
"… But… If this is what you want to do, then I have no right to stop you."
I just wrapped my arms around her and held her. We sat in silence, just holding one another.
"… Okay," she whispered.
"Thank you," I replied gently.
She just nodded and held me tighter, turning her eyes to focus on the TV to help distract herself.
While she calmed herself down, I focused on the chatroom.
Black Sun has muted everyone.
Black Sun: I understand all of you are worried about Thalia but calm down.
First, Thalia is fine. As the Admin, I have the power to check on others. I've been a bit busy so I couldn't respond until now, but I assure you all that Thalia is fine- just unconscious. She'll likely be back in a few days.
Second, the world quest is taking place in Thalia's world. Therefore, we can check on her in person soon enough by accepting the mission.
Third, we should discuss on who will go on the quest. Remember, be civil.
Black Sun has unmuted everyone.
Prima Ballerina: Was the muting necessary?
Black Sun: Yes.
God Tongue: … So, who will go?
Black Sun: First, we should establish who wants to go.
Sea Diva: I'd like to go… I'm so tired of this island, you don't even know. My only interactions are with you and the guy who takes care of me. I need more social interaction!
Ashen Demon: I would like to check on Thalia… However, if others are going, then I trust you all to make sure she is okay. Besides, many of you don't have the physical abilities or access to Magic that I do, so you would benefit more from going than I would. Therefore, I will resign from going.
God's Tongue: I'd like to go, but I'm not really a fighter and I have no experience, I would just be a liability… Plus, I'm not sure I'd be able to resist Ambrosia if I ever ate it. Since it's quite literally the food of the gods, it might cause a poor interaction with my God's Tongue and make me completely addicted to it. Better I do not take that risk.
Deviluke Princess: Sadly, I think I'm out too!! So frustrating, but I remember Thalia mentioning that technology is no good for Demigods- it draws monsters to them… More specifically the internet, but you get my point, I can't risk any of my nice tech around others so it's better I stay out of it! Even if I think it would be good to be Hephaestus's Kid!
Ashen Demon: You think you'd be Hephaestus's kid?
Deviluke Princess: I know for sure!!
Ashen Demon: Huh, who do you think my parent would be?
Black Sun: Kronos.
Ashen Demon: Who's that?
Black Sun: Time Deity.
Ashen Demon: Why time deity?
Black Sun: Eh, just seems to fit you.
I hid a small smile... Using meta knowledge to mess with people was fun, I couldn't wait for Byleth to remember this when she turned back time for the first time.
Prima Ballerina: I'm also out. I'm a duellist, not a fighter, and I'm still figuring out spirit magic after checking out the store- thank you for the tips you gave by the way, Yuno.
Black Sun: Any time.
Prima Ballerina: Regardless, I don't think I'd be much help… And knowing my luck, I'd end up a daughter of Aphrodite rather than Athena.
Black Sun: Well then, it seems like Uta and I are the only ones who want to take this mission.
Prima Ballerina: Wait, you're going to take the mission? But you don't have any special abilities besides your Spirit Magic, right?
Black Sun: I have a surplus of points. I'm not afraid to buy a Swordsmanship or Spearmanship Skill if I have to. Plus, I'm very curious about the potential of the permanent skill that I might obtain from the mission. So, I'm willing to go for it… I also have a few tricks up my sleeve too.
Prima Ballerina: Well… Okay. But be careful.
Black Sun: Of course!
And with that, I promptly signed up for the mission.
Black Sun has signed up for the World Mission!
Sea Diva: Don't you forget about me!
Sea Dive has signed up for the World Mission!
Participants have been selected for the World Mission! When you are ready, please say the Word 'Transfer' in order to begin the mission!
I took a deep breath and Akiza looked up at me.
I didn't need to say anything, she already knew.
She just hugged me tighter again. "… I don't want you to go."
"I know."
"But you're going anyway, right?"
"Yes, I am."
"You're a prick…"
"Yeah, I'm sorry."
She sniffled a little before she slowly stood up, and I did the same.
"You'd better not come back with another girl," she said, trying to keep her voice light like she was telling a joke.
"I make no promises," I chuckled.
"You're supposed to say, 'Yes dear,' you dick," she chastised me.
"Would you rather I lie to you?" I asked her.
"No…" She sighed and stared into my eyes. "No, I'd rather the truth…"
She placed her hands on my cheeks and leaned in, pressing a tender and sorrowful kiss on my lips… As though she was saying goodbye.
Damn, I didn't want this kind of kiss…
She pulled back slowly. "You better come back; you understand?"
"I understand," I nodded. "I promise you… I'll come back."
She took a deep breath and turned around. "… When I turn around again, you're going to be back," she told me.
"I will," I promised her. What else could I do?
"I'll count to five…"
I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath… This was it, my first major adventure…
"One…"
It was going to be difficult- it was the quest to save Artemis, or potentially another god… But I knew it was possible. Difficult, but possible.
"Two…"
'You with me, Tez?' I asked my closest friend, the Duel Spirit who had been by my side since I was a child.
'Always.'
"Three…"
'And you, Pandora? Are you with me?'
'But of course, Master~ I'll never let you out of my sight for too long~'
"Four…"
'Maelstrom?'
'At your command, my King.'
'In that case… Let's go.'
"Five…"
"Transfer."
The world vanished into white.
