Chapter 219 - Chapter 219: Mark 47: The Thunder Maiden

[Third Person's PoV]

"No! No! No!" Melissa shouted as she descended from the sky, hovering for a moment before her boots finally touched the cracked ground. Her eyes flared with indignation as she pointed a sharp finger at Midoriya. "Why did you have to go and capture him?!"

"Huh?" Deku blinked in confusion, scratching his head as he slowly got to his feet, dirt clinging to his sleeves. He tilted his head, clearly baffled. "To, uh... pass the exam?"

Melissa threw her hands up dramatically. "Who cares about the exam?! I wanted to test my hammer against Uncle Might!" she growled, stomping one foot like an angry child. "All I did was release a simple attack!"

Both Midoriya and All Might glanced around.

The ground beneath them was shredded and uneven — massive craters, scorched earth, and crackling residual energy filled the air with a metallic tang. Smoke curled from fractured stone, while faint sparks flickered in the air. All Might's suit was torn at the edges, his arms littered with superficial burns and bruises.

They both looked at each other in stunned silence, then turned back to Melissa and echoed in disbelief, "Simple attack?"

Melissa pouted and crossed her arms with an exaggerated huff. "Yeah! I was supposed to summon thunderstorms, blizzards, hurricanes — real natural disasters. That was just a warm-up shot. All I did was fire a teeny little lightning bolt."

All Might stared at her, one eye twitching slightly. "Young Melissa... do you, by chance, harbor a grudge against me?"

She gasped in exaggerated offense. "Don't be silly, Uncle! I just thought it would be fun to see how the new suit holds up against you." She waved off his concern like it was an annoying fly, clearly unbothered by the destruction behind her.

With a sigh, Melissa turned around and slowly trudged toward the exam entrance, her posture slouched in disappointment. Her hammer spun lazily on her index finger, whirling like a pendulum of regret.

All Might and Midoriya exchanged looks, their expressions unreadable. Finally, All Might placed a firm hand on Midoriya's shoulder, nodding proudly. "Good work, young Midoriya. You continue to grow at an extraordinary pace."

Midoriya blushed slightly, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. However, the smile faltered as his eyes drifted to his open palm. His voice dropped to a whisper. "All Might… something happened. During the exam… when Melissa fired that attack…"

All Might's brow furrowed. "Does this have anything to do with why you suddenly dashed off in the middle of the fight?"

Midoriya nodded.

"Meet me in my office after the exam," All Might said, voice quiet but serious. "We'll talk then."

Later...

"TONY!!" Melissa cried, sprinting across the room with her arms stretched out like a child. Her eyes shimmered with exaggerated tears.

She tackled Tony into a hug, burying her face into his chest and sobbing theatrically. "They didn't let me use my hammer!!"

Tony sighed but smiled fondly as he ran a hand through her hair to calm her down. "There, there," he muttered with a wry chuckle. Around them, the other students — fresh from their own exams — exchanged curious glances.

They were in the observation room, where Recovery Girl was seated near a bank of monitors. She had just finished checking over their conditions and patching up minor wounds.

"Hey, uh… can I ask something?" Midoriya spoke up from one of the chairs, where he sat slouched, clearly drained from the day's events. He raised his hand lazily. "What exactly does the Mark 47 do?"

Tony straightened slightly and replied, "In simple terms, It's a weather-control suit. Melissa built it using quantum field theory principles and incorporated them into my Mark-tech framework."

He gestured loosely as he explained, slipping into scientist mode. "Basically, in quantum physics, every fundamental force — electromagnetism, gravity, the strong and weak nuclear forces — is mediated by quantum fields. The universe, at its most microscopic level, isn't made of just particles flying around. It's constructed of fields — invisible, but everywhere."

"Melissa's suit contains a quantum transducer core — think of it like a mini reactor that bends those fields to her will. It manipulates the local quantum environment to influence weather patterns. When she fires lightning, she's not just summoning it from thin air — she's destabilizing and directing charged particles within the atmosphere, guiding them with almost zero energy loss."

Bakugo, Todoroki, Midoriya, and even Recovery Girl tilted their heads to the side like confused puppies, all blinking in eerie, synchronized unison.

Tony let out what could only be described as the deepest, most soul-weary sigh in human history, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Okay… got it. Caveman mode it is."

He straightened up with a theatrical flourish, clasping his hands in front of him like a stage performer ready to reveal fire to a tribe of rock-worshippers.

"Alright, listen up. We've got this big thing called Earth. Round. Spinning. We live on it. So far so good?"

A few slow nods followed. Bakugo narrowed his eyes suspiciously, arms folded tightly.

"Now, this big spinning dirt ball is wrapped in an invisible security blanket. Kinda like a force field made of magnetism. It's the planet's way of flipping the bird to solar radiation. Keeps us all from frying like bacon."

Midoriya raised a hand, eyes bright with curiosity.

Tony swatted the hand down gently. "No questions until the fire is made, Deku."

He continued, his tone now resembling a teacher dealing with sleep-deprived kindergartners.

"So, my genius girlfriend — yes, genius," he added, ruffling Melissa's hair while she sulked into his shoulder, cheeks puffed adorably, "used that fancy science brain to create a suit that talks to the planet's electromagnetic field."

"Talks?" Todoroki echoed, trying to follow.

"Not with words, Frostbite. With particles. Quantum particles. Teeny-tiny wibbly-wobbly microscopic whispers. Smaller than Bakugo's temper."

"HEY—!"

"No barkin', angry pomeranian," Tony shot back, without missing a beat.

Bakugo growled again, this time low and warning, but Tony powered through, unfazed.

"So, this suit doesn't punch nature. It doesn't scream at it. It whispers. It pokes the force fields. Ever so gently. Over and over. Until eventually, nature's like, 'Okay, fine, here's a thunderstorm.' Basically, Melissa's suit manipulates storms by gently bullying the laws of physics until they comply."

He spread his arms wide in finality. "Any questions, or should I draw pictures on a cave wall?"

Momo chuckled softly behind her hand. Despite Tony's frustrated tone, she could tell — as always — that he loved explaining things. For Tony, understanding something made it easier to love, and sharing that understanding was his way of helping others fall in love with science as well.

Deku's hand shot into the air again like a rocket launch.

Tony groaned. "Yes, Deku?"

Midoriya leaned forward, eyes sparkling. "So what exactly does the hammer do? Does it help the suit harness quantum energy more efficiently? Or maybe it's a directional conduit for the storm control"

Tony blinked. "Honestly, Good question…"

He turned toward Melissa with a raised brow. "You wanna take this one?"

Melissa's face turned rosy as she glanced away, mumbling something into Tony's shoulder and shaking her head bashfully.

Tony sighed and looked back at the group. "The hammer doesn't do squat. It's basically a glorified paperweight with lightning decals. Total aesthetic choice. She's got a thing for hammers. Could've been a pistol, or a slingshot, or a glitter cannon — it wouldn't have mattered."

There was a heavy silence.

"…Seriously?" Todoroki finally asked, deadpan.

"Dead serious," Tony said, stone-faced.

Then Todoroki leaned forward slightly, studying them both with a subtle furrow in his brow. "What I'm really curious about is this… Why are you two so strong? I mean, you're stronger than anyone I've seen — even pros."

Tony shrugged with a casual smirk. "I mean, look around. This world has people whose heads look like common household appliances. When the bar is that low, of course we're going to look like gods."

He leaned forward, his grin turning wolfish, eyes glowing faintly as he dramatically whispered, "So we should rule them as such."

The room went still.

Every muscle in Midoriya's body tensed. Momo's grew a wry smile. Bakugo's palms crackled faintly with heat. Todoroki's fingers curled instinctively.

Tony's grin widened at their horrified expressions — and then he burst out laughing. "Oh my god, your faces."

He slapped his knee and doubled over, cackling. "You guys are so easy! I had you going! I even saw Recovery Girl clutch her pearl necklace."

They all stared at him, unamused and unblinking.
