I always thought you could figure out a lot about someone by just looking at them, watching how they move and talk and their body language. Especially when they think no one is looking and they are themselves albeit good or bad. As everyone waits in anticipation for Will to finish with their eyes glued to the screen, I look at him. Watching him now and how he navigates the computer and does it so effortlessly reminds me of what he has done, and that irks me, it does. But he's shown he can change and that's what matters to me.
The room goes silent as the keyboard stops making noises. Dr Goult asks aloud "What's wrong?" Rose whilst looking at Will notices him hesitate before answering, something small but something she caught. "Nothing is wrong, we can proceed as planned" Will eventually get's out. "Let's tell Mr Collins then, I will call him now" Dr Goult responds leaving the room with everyone else to prepare. As everyone is going for the door Rose walk's up to Will whispering near his ear "We need to talk".
"What do you want to talk about" I hear him say, he know's. That's for sure, he definitely isn't stupid. "You told everyone to proceed and that it was all fine, but you hesitated, why?" I respond raising my tone as my breath falls out raggedly. Looking into his eyes I wait for his reply, his face a blank canvas not letting any emotion through. "Because it is fine, trust me Rose" The blank canvas falls through as he lets out a small smile, properly looking at me, I see something familiar in his eyes. Smiling back slightly I respond "How are you holding up too?" I question as I move closer grabbing a hold of his hand. "Better and worse, depends on the time. I feel like I am being pulled in different directions, but in a positive way. Yourself?" That's good, I am glad he is doing better with all the troubles he has had. Pulling his hand he stumbles forward as I feel his weight collapse into mine as I wrap my arms round him tight. "I am fine as long as you are ok, but please promise me it is all okay?" Feeling his arms wrap round me I feel his breath on my neck and hear him whisper "I promise Rose"
Time passes by throughout the facility as everyone slowly starts discussing in smaller groups before they all meet back up again. "Everyone let's meet back up" a voice echoes throughout the halls and rooms. Minute by minute people file back in the control room. "We are proceeding with the plan, does anyone have any questions?" Will states taking up a leadership role. Some of the soldiers murmur between themselves momentarily until one speaks up "How will we know everyone is going to be gone, do we have a count on all personnel in the camp? We don't want to be risking innocent lives" as he gestures to his group. Rose agrees wholeheartedly, understanding that this new feeling is empathy and love, not wanting the harm of innocents, the work of the antidote and them finally being able to choose for themselves. "I totally agree, that's why I have checked all the newest files for the number of personnel and have inputted a program into a satellite to count every head that leaves the perimeter, even in vehicles" Will replies as the soldiers nod in approval. "Another thing is why don't we have Rose's banners be used in the frontlines, continue what they were made for, a symbol of hope" Another group of soldiers discuss. To which Rose smiles slightly knowing her impact. "We have, don't you worry, if that is all the attack will proceed in 30 minutes"
The confirmation came through not long ago, minutes to go until the attack starts. Mr Collins voice crackled throughout the radios like a calm before the storm, merely discussing what they will do after. Then not even a minute later Will gave the final command and the horizon lit up. Distant explosions throughout the encampment as the base disappears bit by bit. No one spoke as everyone witnessed the destruction so easily done. "That should do it" Mr Collins whispered.
Hours pass as everyone prepares to leave after the news that the army is being assembled, Rose and Will are left alone in the control room as Will is finishing all the work he needs to do. "Will, you nearly done?" Rose ponders looking over only to see him frozen up, frightened, terrified, "What is it?" she sputters rushing over grabbing him by the hands. "They know" Glancing up Rose sees the signs, the Internal Authority.
