"Oh my god, Harry! You're still training in this weather?"
Hermione said in surprise.
It had been pouring rain and howling wind all day. Students had to run through the corridors with their heads down just to get to class, yet the Gryffindor team still hadn't stopped training.
"The match against Slytherin is coming up, and Wood doesn't want to miss a single practice—thanks, Ryan." Harry said wearily.
Ryan cast a spell, making the water and mud on Harry disappear.
Michael casually cleaned up the muddy footprints on the floor and asked, "Did you run into Filch on your way back?"
"I did… but he didn't give me a hard time."
Harry rummaged through the food cupboard and stuffed his mouth with chocolate as he spoke indistinctly.
Seeing the others gathered in a circle, he asked, "What are you all doing?"
"Wade is casting an Undetectable Extension Charm on our bags. Cool, right?" Michael said excitedly.
"…That's amazing." Harry sincerely marveled, "I know that spell is really difficult."
Whenever he thought he was exhausted to the limit, looking at Wade and Hermione always made him wonder if he still wasn't working hard enough.
But when he compared himself to his dormmates Ron, Seamus, and Dean, Harry felt like he was working way too hard.
After enchanting everyone's bags with the Undetectable Extension Charm, Wade saw them happily stuffing their belongings inside and then turned to Harry. "Do you need it too?"
Harry shook his head. "Sirius already handled it for me."
He hesitated for a moment before asking softly, "Wade, do you remember what Remus and Sirius said before? About… those vampires possibly being controlled by Muggles…"
Wade nodded. "Of course, it's only been two days. I remember."
"Then do you know why Remus and Sirius seem… reluctant to investigate?" Harry asked. "I can't quite explain it, but that's just the feeling I get."
"It's simple. Whether it's tracking them down, interrogating them, or retaliating against the Muggles, all of it violates the Statute of Secrecy Law." Wade said.
"That's it?" Harry was stunned. "But… Hagrid once gave my cousin Dudley a pig's tail…"
Wade said:
"Well technically, he broke the law.
But for certain reasons—like because of you. The place where you live is under strict surveillance by the Ministry of Magic, and your aunt and uncle are aware of the wizarding world.
So, it wasn't considered a breach of secrecy, which is why he wasn't punished."
"But if it involves powerful and influential figures in the Muggle world, any action against them must be taken with extreme caution.
Otherwise, it could become a massive problem for the entire wizarding world—the Ministries of Magic in every country are highly vigilant about this."
"Even if the Muggles are the ones being unreasonable? Even if they've already harmed our people?" Harry asked in disbelief.
Wade was silent for a moment before replying, "The Statute of Secrecy Law is the most strictly enforced law in every country. Even Dumbledore can't just break it as he pleases."
"—Dumbledore? He's encountered something like this before?" Harry asked.
"When Professor Dumbledore was young, his sister was attacked by a group of Muggle boys. His father took revenge on them and was sentenced to life in Azkaban, where he eventually died," Wade said.
Harry was completely stunned.
In his mind, the headmaster had always been a wise, powerful, and ancient figure, as if he had been that way since birth.
He had never considered that Dumbledore might have had moments of weakness—let alone imagined such a tragedy in his family's past.
"So, do you understand now?"
Wade patted Harry on the shoulder and said:
"Sirius and Lupin won't let those responsible get away with it, but this kind of investigation must be done in secret. It can't be made public, and they definitely can't seek help from the Ministry of Magic."
"If others find out they're investigating Muggles, ignorant people will mock them. Those with knowledge and power will become obstacles, preventing them from investigating or seeking revenge."
"The same goes for you—just keep this in mind. Don't even tell Hermione or Ron."
Harry nodded silently.
…
The next day, they had Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
Using the Time-Turner, Wade arrived at the second floor of the castle earlier than the other students. From a distance, he saw Professor Abigail pacing outside the classroom.
The professor wore a slight frown and was idly spinning her wand like a fan, occasionally sending out small sparks from its tip.
Wade watched for a moment before stepping forward.
"Oh, Wade." Professor Abigail saw him and raised an eyebrow, as if she wanted to smile but held back.
"Professor." Wade took out a small bag and handed it over. "The task you mentioned last time—I've completed it."
"Finished?"
A look of astonishment appeared on Professor Abigail's face. She paused for a moment before breaking into a delighted smile.
"—This fast?"
—What, is it too fast for you?
Wade looked at her curiously.
"Oh, let me see."
Professor Abigail took the bag and carefully examined the small snakeskin pouch, which was only slightly larger than a fist. Then, she loosened the drawstring.
Inside the bag was a collection of magical creature Dolls—roughly thirty of them, all no larger than a finger joint.
"Uh…"
Professor Abigail glanced at Wade, wondering if he had misunderstood her request. But knowing Wade, she doubted he would make such a basic mistake.
So, she reached in and pulled out a Kappa.
A Kappa was a water-dwelling creature—also known as "Kawataro" in Japanese. It was covered in green scales, had webbed fingers, a turtle shell on its back, and a shallow dish filled with water on its head.
As soon as the Kappa was taken out of the bag, its body instantly expanded. Professor Abigail tossed it to the ground, and in the blink of an eye, it grew over a meter tall, its triangular eyes gleaming with a sinister glint as it stared at them.
On its chest, a marking read: "Kappa 03."
Instinctively, Professor Abigail gripped her wand and tensed, ready for a confrontation. It was only after realizing that it was just a Doll that she slowly relaxed.
"This is so lifelike… Absolutely incredible. I can't believe this is an artificial creation," Professor Abigail remarked. "Can it move?"
"Of course," Wade replied. "It's waiting for your command!"
—And judging by its posture, that seemed to be exactly the case.
Suppressing the excitement rising within her, Professor Abigail gave a command:
"Kappa 03, show me what you can do—attack the next student who enters this corridor."
Wade: "…"
This professor's style is as ruthless as ever!
