After Jimmy left the tree, the piercing sound rapidly diminished, soon becoming almost inaudible.
This definitely wasn't right. Clearly, there was something wrong with the tree, or something problematic inside the tree. Now the sound slowly disappearing didn't mean the other party was eliminated. Jimmy was still worried the entity would escape. He took a couple of breaths to suppress the feeling of nausea, clamped the dagger handle between his teeth, and readied his revolver before pressing the exorcism badge against the tree once more.
This time, there was finally some movement. Although that nauseating, piercing sound remained, something resembling fog began to seep out from around the base of the tree in Heart Eye Vision. The color was very faint, as if the tree was wearing a cloak made of fog. Soon, the fog drifted upwards, gathering about two or three meters up from the trunk, forming into a fog mass suspended in the air.
