Zernos Blood Curse was not a minor figure; his position in the family was decent, and he was considered a mid-level manager in any case.
He was not ignorant; his lifespan of over a thousand years and his countless experiences of plundering abroad made him quite knowledgeable.
If there's anything in the Infinite Starfield that can be considered an important target, it's undoubtedly the reason for its name: the Infinite Warband.
Legend has it that there is a prophecy:
The youngest son of the evil god, the one who most revered reason, will return to the mortal realm at the end of the era to determine the final fate of the Eldar.
This prophecy is quite intriguing; each element requires careful consideration to understand its meaning, and there are many different interpretations.
Who is the 'youngest evil god'?
That was clearly not one of the three ancient beings from the Warp. In the past, it was generally believed to be Slaanesh, the fourth evil god who rose to power at the cost of the Eldar empire, the dominant power in the universe.
But if it was Slaanesh, did she have a famously rational son?
It's hard to say.
It's impossible to find a Slaanesh or a demon prince who can be described as 'upholding reason' in the absolute sense. The idea that Slaanesh, who pursue hedonism, recklessness, and the ultimate pleasure, could uphold reason is laughable.
However, if we pay attention to the word "most," it seems that it can be interpreted as choosing the best among the worst in comparison. In a relatively rational sense, it is not impossible to find one.
This is one aspect of the interpretation.
Another interpretation suggests that the youngest evil god refers to the ascended emperor of humanity.
But is he already at the level of one of the four gods of the subspace?
There is debate within the Eldar race about this, and it cannot be determined.
However, if we set aside the debate and accept that he is the fifth Warp God, then the term 'son' becomes very metaphorical, referring to the commanders who led the various Space Marine Legions at the founding of the Imperium. Each of them was a demigod created by the Emperor based on his own genetic template. Each Chapter was a 'degraded version' further manufactured based on the genes of these demigods.
In theory, every demigod is an immortal being, the son of an emperor, and now can be called a son of a god.
As for who is 'most rational', it's hard to say, but it's generally believed to be the former commander of the Infinite Legion.
Despite being said to be immortal, after the emperor ascended to heaven, his sons gradually disappeared from sight due to various factors, either perishing or going missing.
Only this commander of the Infinite Legion presided over the splitting of the Space Marine Legion into smaller chapters, wrote the Space Marine Bible, a book revered as the ultimate guide, and once served as the Regent of the Imperium, ruling the Imperium for a considerable period of time.
But during a war, he was fatally struck by the demon prince's sword, and his life was hanging by a thread.
His subordinates could only put him into a static position to temporarily save his life.
The sole function of a static field is that time ceases to flow within it. The regent thus saved his life, but was forever frozen in that critical moment.
The method to break the static state is not difficult, but once it is broken, he will quickly face death.
He had been on Ultraman, the home planet of the Infinite Battle Group, for nearly ten thousand years. During this time, the Infinite Battle Group had been constantly searching for a way to save their Gene Father. They had made some progress, but with such a low success rate, who would dare to gamble?
Thus, the regent remains in this state to this day.
Putting aside other interpretations, a significant number of people believe that the figure in the prophecy is none other than Robert, the former regent of humanity, the son of the emperor, and the genetic father of the Infinite Chapter.
According to the prophecy, he will awaken in the End Era? Is it related to the Eldar?
What is the End Era?
What fate will this lead to for the Eldar?
Interpretations of these things are even more varied and impossible to define.
Not only are the interpretations of the prophecy different, but the high-ranking members of various families in Comoros also have different attitudes toward it.
Even though the prophecy originated from the Witch Spirit Cult and was made by the oldest Witch Spirit, who had lived for tens of thousands of years, not every family's ruler believed it.
Comoros is a cold-blooded city full of conspiracies. Who knows if this prophecy was fabricated by the Witch Spirit Cult for some unspeakable secret?
If we believe it, wouldn't we be falling into a trap?
The struggles between the various families within the Comoros are no less complex or intricate than the political struggles on the human holy Terra, and are far more intense and bloody.
One wrong step can lead to utter ruin.
Some disbelievers completely ignore this message, some strongly oppose it, and some pretend to believe it, using this prophecy to do other things.
Some people believed it.
However, believing in something doesn't mean everyone agrees on a unified opinion and course of action. Some believe it should be utilized, some believe it should be destroyed beforehand, some believe in actively establishing contact, and some believe...
There are too many, and they're all a mix of truth and falsehood.
Zernos himself could not clearly discern the thoughts of his fellow tribesmen.
He wasn't even sure what the Blood Curse Clan he belonged to truly thought about the prophecy.
But one thing is certain: the Blood Curse Clan is one of the top families that is most interested in and most proactive in matters of prophecy.
They united many allies and made many arrangements and plans.
These arrangements even lasted for hundreds or thousands of years.
Zernos was in charge of only a small part of one link in the chain—imposing a trade blockade on the Infinite Starfield.
It's unrealistic to completely lock down the Infinite Starfield with military force. Even if the Blood Curse Clan possessed such power, they would absolutely not want to use it to clash head-on with the powerful Infinite Warband, and the final result would certainly be their annihilation.
They adopted a tactic of overall sabotage.
Instead of directly attacking the Infinite Starfield, they primarily targeted ships that traded or transported goods within it.
Dispersed plundering is precisely the method that the Dark Eldar excel at, and it leaves the Infinite Starfield and the Infinite Warband quite bewildered.
Even now, they are still unsure whether the Dark Eldar's actions are directed at them.
