Chapter 535 - The Deal

Even here, he had his own mission.

The phone rang, abruptly disrupting the young man's thoughts. "Mr. Qin," a man's voice said from the other end. "We've found the trader."

The day before, they had received an internal tip from the website: someone had resolved a Supernatural event and obtained a Red Blood Covenant.

Through their connections, they immediately blocked out other competitors and successfully contacted the trader.

They offered three blank Blood Contracts and a check with no upper limit.

It was clear the trader was tempted by their offer, but for some reason, they never finalized the deal.

Eventually, the trader even went completely silent.

The Xia Family desperately needed the Red Blood Covenant. The Gate within Gong Zhe was becoming increasingly unstable, requiring him to consume the covenant with ever-increasing frequency.

He could sense the entity within his Gate growing restless.

Whether the Xia Family chose to sacrifice Gong Zhe, a top-tier combatant, or allowed the Gate within him to completely consume him, the loss would be devastating—something the current Xia Family could ill afford.

Twenty years ago, after the purge against Crimson, it was Gong Zhe's presence that gave the surviving Xia Family the courage to withdraw from the Night Watcher.

And it was precisely because of Gong Zhe that the remaining families, despite their resentment, dared not take any substantive action against the Xia Family.

In that battle, the oppressive aura emanating from Gong Zhe's massive folding knife struck fear even into the hearts of their allies.

He earned the fearsome reputation of the Bone Carver.

After all, he had faced two Crimson members alone, killing Crimson No. 6 and severely wounding Crimson No. 9. To find the Gate within the latter's body, he had even stripped Crimson No. 9 down to bare bones.

"Location," the young man said, taking a deep breath.

"Rong City," the man on the other end replied. "We're outside his villa right now. The trader's name is Huai Yi. He's registered on the website and once applied to become an external Specialist for the Night Watcher, but was rejected."

The young man frowned. "Disciple of the Door?"

"Yes."

Huai Yi's status as a Disciple of the Door complicated matters slightly. If handled poorly, this could escalate into another supernatural event.

Overuse of the Power of the Door would dramatically accelerate the erosion process.

"Be cautious," the young man instructed after weighing the pros and cons. "If necessary, disregard the consequences, but we must obtain that Red Blood Covenant. It's crucial."

"Understood," the man replied. "This area is remote. We shouldn't make too much noise."

As night fell, seven or eight men in casual clothes emerged from separate vehicles. Some stayed behind as lookouts while the rest headed toward Huai Yi's villa.

Inside the villa, the lights blazed. Several bikini-clad women darted around, occasionally letting out seductive laughter.

Meanwhile, Huai Yi, shirtless, flushed, reeking of alcohol, and blindfolded, stumbled around the vast living room like a headless fly, his hands groping wildly. "Little sisters-in-law, where are you hiding? You're making me work for it! Don't hide anymore. Just wait until I catch you. Hehehehe!"

Persistence paid off. After several attempts, Huai Yi finally caught one of the women. However, she didn't struggle, which dampened his excitement.

"Hehehe, let me feel which little sister-in-law this is." Huai Yi licked his lips and reached upward. His hand soon landed on two solid muscles.

Huai Yi pressed down, but they wouldn't budge.

"Huh? What's going on? Am I drunk?" He shook his head and continued groping upward, finally touching a patch of short, prickly hair.

It felt like a man's stubble.

Even more terrifying, the stubble was at roughly the same height as his own face.

A chill ran down his forehead, and Huai Yi froze. He slowly raised his hands. A gun was pressed against his temple.

Someone ripped the blindfold from his eyes. He blinked a few times, and once his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw the scene before him.

Several unfamiliar figures stood in the room. His sisters-in-law were huddled together in a corner, squatting silently.

Standing before him was a hulking man nearly two meters tall. He didn't look Asian—his face was Eastern European, his body massive, and covered in thick hair.

Looking at the man's exaggerated pectoral muscles and dense stubble, Huai Yi realized just how rude he'd been.

The woman pointing the gun at him was also foreign, but spoke Mandarin fluently. "I don't want to waste time, so I'll ask these questions only once. Where is it?"

Huai Yi immediately understood their purpose, but still feigned cowardice. "What... what thing?"

"Beauty," Huai Yi asked cautiously, "are you sure you have the right person?"

Before his words could fade, he saw the wild-looking foreign woman's lips curl into a smile. Then she lowered the gun.

She pulled a silencer from her pocket and swiftly attached it to the weapon, before pressing the barrel back against Huai Yi's forehead. "You have three more sentences. If I still don't hear what I want after those three sentences, I'll send you to meet God."

"I know you're after the Red Blood Covenant," Huai Yi blurted out, driven by a desperate will to survive.

"First sentence."

"But I don't have it right now."

The woman's patience seemed to thin. "Second sentence."

"But I can take you to the person who does! Please, please don't kill me!" Huai Yi cried out.

"Go on," the woman said, lowering the gun.

When the gun barrel moved away, Huai Yi felt like he could breathe again. Panting heavily, he said, "That thing is with a woman named Lin Wan'er. If you don't kill me, I can lead you to her."

"Actually, I wanted to make a deal with you. Really, I did. The price you offered was excellent, and I was very satisfied. But they wouldn't agree, so I had no choice." Huai Yi adopted a pitiful expression.

"If you can lead me to them and retrieve the Red Blood Covenant, I'll keep my promise to you in full," the woman said, waving her hand. A burly man with fierce eyes stepped forward, carrying a black leather case.

When the case opened, it revealed three Lifeline Notes arranged in a crisscross pattern. When held up to the light, the notes emitted a faint, eerie aura.

On the far right lay a blank Check.

Huai Yi stared at the contents, his eyes widening. "Alright," he nodded. "I accept your offer."

"Now, tell me about these people," the woman said, gesturing for Huai Yi to sit down. They sat facing each other on the sofa. "What preparations do we need to make?"

"They're just two ordinary people," Huai Yi said with utmost sincerity. "I could handle them alone with ease. You have nothing to worry about."
