Chapter 195 - Chapter 175: The Missing Piece, Back to Square One

Summary:

Stuck doin the same thing all over agian

Camila relaxed as she sat down. "It's supposed to be my day off, but I had to deal with an emergency surgery." She complained to her husband of nearly two years by this point. "I've gotten so used to dealing with reckless teenagers that it completely slipped my mind that reckless adults exist too."

"Sounds like a handful." Greg sat down next to her as he massaged her shoulders with those wonderful fingers of his. One of the many perks to marrying a musician.

"I mean, it pays the bills, but what do you do when the doctor needs a doctor, you know?" She asked rhetorically, leaning into him. "Between you helping Sadie's band and me trying to comprehend every species to help, we've barely gotten an hour or two alone with each other this year." Besides the honeymoon of course.

"Well, I may not exactly be a millionaire anymore, but I do still have quite a bit saved up. Maybe it's time to put that money to good use." Greg suggested, placing a gentle kiss on her cheek. "Name a time and place, and we can have our own little get away weekend, just the two of us."

She smiled. "That sounds nice …" She admitted, turning back to kiss him on the lips. "And I'm sure we can trust the kids for one weekend." It wasn't like they were leaving for a week, what's the worst that could happen?

The door was kicked open. "THE GEMS ARE PROBABLY DEAD AND STEVEN'S MESSED UP!" Her daughter shouted.

"...The kids were right. Murphy's law is something to fear." Camila rubbed her forehead, trying to prevent the incoming headache that she could feel forming. "What happened?"

"Agh…you run really fast." Steven came through the door as he held several familiar looking gemstones in his hands as Star followed behind him. "We were just hanging out by the lighthouse when another gem came from space with a giant injector."

"One of those things meant to suck life out of the planet?" Greg asked.

"Yes … and it's currently on top of the house …" Star pointed out. "We may want to move out soon." Of course, why couldn't she have a normal life?

"And then she fought us all and hit the gems with this weird scythe thing." Steven pulled out a handle, which extended into a large bladed weapon, before shrinking back. "They're all stuck as gems, and my powers aren't working, and I don't know what to do and-"

"Steven, buddy, calm down." Greg instantly got up, placing a hand on the boy's shoulder. "It's going to be fine."

"Dad, please don't patronize me. Not now of all times." He complained.

"I'm not. The gems are tougher than anyone else I know." The man continued. "I'm sure they'll get up any second." Pear's stone began to glow and rise. "Told you buddy."

"Wait, Pearl's forming first?" Star raised an eyebrow. "Garnet said that she usually takes about a week."

Said gem rose up … and shifted into what appeared to be a clam based projection. "Please state your identity."

No one was sure about anything, or really what to do. "Um…Greg Universe." Her husband sheepishly answered.

"Greetings Um-Greg Universe." What? "Please state your preferenced customization design." The gem responded.

"Customization?" Luz wondered. "Is it asking if you want to change how Pearl looks?"

"I just want you to be you?" Greg responded with confusion.

"Default setting selected." The clam projection enlarged as the gemstone itself emerged, with the woman herself forming from the stone, although she was wearing much less casual attire than before, with a big tutu around it.

"Pearl!" Steven shouted, running up to the, for some reason, confused gem. "I'm so glad you're back. It's been crazy and my powers don't work and-" She walked right past him. "Pearl?" She continued to walk until she reached Greg.

"How do you do, My Um-Greg Universe?" She asked, bowing. "Thank you for bringing me into the world." Pearl grabbed his hand … almost romantically. "I am at your eternal service. Welcome to your new Pearl."

"... What in corn's name is going on?" Star asked with mild horror.

"Ugh, this feels so wrong on so many levels." Luz shivered at the sight that was occurring before them.

"She's not acting like herself…she's acting like Pearl…how Homeworld used to see Pearls." Steven commented.

"Could her gem be cracked?" Her husband asked, looking down at her forehead.

"No, it's gotta be the weapon." Steven said. "It did something to-" There was a new red light, a familiar small girl with a square head forming. "Ruby! Are you okay?"

"Ah! Who are you? You're not my assignment!" The small red one looked ready to fight.

"I could really use an explanation here.." Greg rubbed his head.

"Allow me to illuminate!" Pearl said, twirling over and gesturing to the small red gem. "A Ruby guard. But just a single one." She looked confused. "They tend to come in teams of three or more."

A blue light followed, along with the appearance of a familiar blue gem. "A precious Sapphire." Pearl switched targets. "She sees the future." The gem winked. "That's who the Ruby's for."

"My Sapphire!" The small red gem saluted with her arms crossed. "As my sworn duty and sole purpose, I will protect you with my life!"

"I know you will, that's why I predict you won't last more than a day." They deadpanned almost emotionlessly.

"They … they're reset." Steven muttered in horror. "They're back to basic … even more than when we met."

"Oh come on, we just started to like these guys, I don't want to deal with the angry angst again!" Star rubbed her hands against her face as the purple stone began to glow. "Please don't change too much, Amethyst; you were likable from the start!"

Said gem emerged like the rest, looking smaller than she was before, about a foot or so shorter than the red one, and folds across her joints that made her seem almost baby-like.

"Amethyst!" Steven shouted. "You're tiny?"

"Amethyst!" The gem called back. "You're tiny?"

"What? No, you're Amethyst!"

"What? No, you're Amethyst!" They repeated like a parrot.

"You must be right, This is an Amethyst." Pearl looked over the tiny gem. "Except an Amethyst is big and strong." They said with confusion as the Amethyst began mimicking Pearl's movements. "This one is not the best example, Something is clearly wrong."

"NO SHIT!" Star shouted with clear frustration.

"What are all these different Gems doing in this strange place?" The pale gem asked.

"Pearl, don't you recognize them? Don't you recognize me?" Steven asked.

"Hmm, well, I certainly recognize my "Um-Greg Universe!" Pearl grasped the man once more.

"Don't get any funny ideas about this, mister." She warned her husband.

"Ohh, boy." The man began to sweat as he should be.

"As for you, hmm …" She stared, before a pink light filled the room.

"Get back!, that's the gem of the psycho!" Steven shouted, as his shield failed. "Come on!"

"Wait, if all the gems were reset …" Luz started. "Does that mean …"

Laughter could be heard at the heart shaped gem floated on the air, turning from right side up and forming a vaguely cartoonish shape, forming arms that roped Steven in. "Yippee! I'm so excited to meet you!" The wide eyed and childish looking gem met the boy face to face, pressing against him tightly.

"You're not mad?" The boy asked with wide eyes.

"Mad? Why would I be mad at my best friend!?" The cartoon of a gem giggled.

"Huh?" Star scratched her head.

"This will be fun!" Pearl shouted elatedly."Aren't you the lucky one? Her cut is perfect and she's pink, as well." The pink gem let go of the boy and began tap dancing. "She'll bring you endless entertainment, Your new, best friend, Spinel!" Her arms extended, changing into the gem's name.

"Well at least now I have a name to a face …" Steven sighed. "Star, tell Marco and Kelly to meet us at Nexus City with the Crystal Gem B Team, I'd rather not repeat the story too many times today."

"Right, I'm on it." The little girl sighed. "Come on, let's go Pearl."

The gem blinked, hugging her husband. "Why would I go anywhere other than right next to my 'Um-Greg Universe'?" She knew Greg was trying to be polite by not pushing the gem off of him, but it still rubbed her the wrong way seeing the lanky alien woman clinging to her husband.

"Ugh, we don't have the time for this!" Steven growled as he banged his head against the wall. "Me and Star will take Ruby and Sapphire.."

"Don't forget about your best friend Spinel!" Said gem clung to the boys arm, jumping up and down in a similar manner she often saw Luz do when she was younger.

"... And Spinel …" He groaned. "The rest of you stay here. Luz, don't lose Amethyst!"

She turned to where the purple gem was, transformed into a copy of her. "... Got it." She waved her hands as the little gem copied her. "Now I have two shapeshifters copying my good looks."

"I'm not going anywhere my Sapphire doesn't go." Ruby crossed her arms.

"I foresee that we do end up following them throughout the day." The blue gem spoke with monotone as she walked out the door.

"Then we'll follow … but I've got my eyes on you." The red gem glared at Steven with suspicion.

"This is going to be a long day." Steven groaned as he went out the door.

"Don't worry, your best friend Spinel is going to be there every step of the way!"

"Greeeeat." Star muttered sarcastically. "Sounds fantastic."

Once the children left, it was just her and her husband alone…with the alien woman that had dedicated her entire existence to the man she had married. "What shall I do for you, my um-Greg Universe?"

"Yes, what are you going to have her do, 'Mr Um-Greg Universe?'." She glared at him, daring him to make one mistake."

"... Stand outside?" He asked with a squeak.

"I will clean the entirety of the outside, my 'Um-Greg Universe'." She said, before running off.

"And what shall you be doing for me to make up for letting another woman hold onto you like that right in front of me, Mr Um-Greg Universe?"

"Wait and pamper you hand and foot while I make dinner for us?" He said squeakily.

"It's a start." She nodded as he prepared to get ready. It was amazing to have someone around that always wanted to see to her happiness.

========================================================================

Lapis watched as Steven approached with Star, a Spinel, and Sapphire plus Ruby, the latter looking on edge. "The power couple fighting again?" Kelly asked with a tease.

"Oh, if only." Steven groaned as the stretchy gem wrapped her whole body around the boy and started messing with his hair. "Meet Spinel, she tried to kill me a few minutes ago, and now she's my new best friend."

"Wow Steven, I didn't think you'd break the record for fastest redemption." Lapis smirked.

"Yeah, it took me months to want to stop killing everyone." Peridot laughed.

"I don't know, it took me like, five seconds to turn around." Bismuth snickered

"I'm still one the fence about drowning everyone in this city." Who knew that she could have friends that shared her dark sense of humor.

"Good to see you all can joke about it rather than act on it." Steven sighed. "Anyway, she didn't change of her own free will, she and the gems got hit with this." He displayed a small handle with a button.

"New gem tech?" Marco asked.

"I haven't seen anything like it before." Peridot picked it up, looking it over. "Seems archaic …" She noticed a little button on the side. "Huh, what's this do?" Peridot gently pressed it, and out of it came a large handle that had a large laser scythe on the end of it. "Whoa.."

"Careful with that!" Bismuth called out, grabbing the weapon. "It's a rejuvenater. Homeworld use to make these to keep Gems from falling out of line. One strike, and they go back to their default settings, like they just came out of the rock."

Well … that was terrifying. "My character development!" Peridot shouted, grabbing onto Marco. "I couldn't go through all the painful life lessons a second time!"

"That explains Pearl suddenly being a loyal servant thing, and Amethyst came out late, so she doesn't even know what she is." Star observed as she looked at the growing worry on Steven. "Ah, bro.."

"The reset.." Steven clutches his stomach. "She set me back, back to how I was as a kid, completely unable to use my powers!" He pounded on a nearby brick.

"Don't frown, smile." Spinel grabbed the boy's face, moving his lips up as she laughed. "Smiling makes everything better!" The grumbling emanating from the boy said otherwise.

"On the bright side, she's harmless like this." Kelly shrugged. "And as long as she's not trying to kill anyone, we have all the time in the world to fix this, right?"

The whole tower where they stood shook and rumbled as they all stumbled to keep their balance. "No, because she brought an injector that severely limits our time." Steven groaned. "Bismuth, is there any way to fix this? I feel we would be attacked a lot more with these things if there wasn't a way to do that?"

"No, Homeworld scrapped them because they found it more 'efficient' to shatter and harvest new gems rather than 'correct' defective ones." Bismuth sighed. "I can do my best to try and reverse engineer this, but there's no telling how long it could take."

"Agggh!" Steven yelled to the sky. "My powers don't work, the gems can't fight, and there's no telling what that injector's doing to the planet." A fearful look flashed across his face. "Do I have to get the diamonds?!"

"Whoa, let's save that for a last, last resort." Lapis patted his back. "Besides, you're the one who has healing powers. You have a better chance of fixing this than anybody."

"Doesn't help that I'm powerless now too." Star groaned. "My magic's tied to our bond, as long as Steven's powers are down, I'm down."

"Well that's not a comforting thought." Kelly muttered. "Alright, let's get to it. Moping around won't fix the problem."

"Right." Marco agreed. "Peridot, go stop that injector."

"On it." The tiny gem went forward. "Nobody ends the world with the technology I'm most familiar with except me!" Everyone stared at her. "You know, if I was still evil, which I'm not."

"Hehe, you surround yourself with so many funny gems." Spinel laughed as she poked Steven's face. "So are we going to all play together now or.."

"Not now." Steven slumped against the wall, pulling out his phone as he looked at Ruby and Sapphire, the latter looming at all of them disinterestedly while the former gave them all threatening glares. "Here we are in the future…" Steven sighed. "Here we are in the future and it's wrong!"

"Just a second ago, we were singing this song." Star shrugged. "And now, they're gone, because of her." She gave a glare to Spinel, who just laughed it off.

"Happily ever after, there we were." Steven held his head down, dejected and defeated, when before him singing would've been his rally cry for everyone to come together. This latest attack really seemed to have gotten to him.

"When has it ever been easy?" Bismuth asked "Hasn't it always been hard to be us?"

"When you go against the grain, There's always somebody around you can't trust." Kelly joined in, sending a look to the oblivious Spinel.

"That's why we've got to have each other." Lapis patted their backs. "While we figure this out, we must!"

"Because we are the crystal gems." Peridot cheered.

"And we never give up! We never give up on our friends." Bismuth hyped them up. "As long as one of us is standing to brandish the star!"

"We'll find a way!" Peridot cheered.

"To save the day!" Lapis shouted.

"That's who we are!" The two of them posed right next to Bismuth, hoping that would've been enough to get the kids out of their funk. It seemed to have worked..

"Here we are in the future…" For everyone except Steven, who just continued to sing sadly. Here we are in the future and it's wrong!" He gestured to the two silent red and blue gems in the corner. "Look at them, they're not even singing along!" For Steven to be like this…it just wasn't him.

The rest of them stood in silence as they let Steven rant. It was rare for him to stay stuck in such a depressing mood for this long. "If I could've just stopped right there, we'd be,..,.Totally fine, totally us, totally me!"

"Even if it takes a thousand years to get them back we will." Kelly told the boy. "They may not know who they are but we do."

"Believe me, Steven, I've known them longer." Bismuth assured the boy. "I've seen them get through worse and come back stronger! That's why I believe in them!"

"And I believe in you!" Star picked her brother up and tossed him in the air for Lapis to catch.

"Because we are the crystal gems." She told him. "And we never give up." Not again.

"No, we never give up on our friends!" Peridot cheered as she slapped Marco on the back.

"As long as one of us is standing to brandish the star!" Bismuth hyped them up again, and this time, it lead to a small smile forming on the boy's face.

"We'll find a way!"

"To save the day!"

"That's who we are!" They were going to fetch through this together, no matter how long it took.

"Thank you guys." Steven nodded his head as he paced back and forth. "Okay, let's put our heads together. There's gotta be some way to make them remember."

"Maybe we just need to jolt them, like with energy filling them up." Marco thought aloud.

"That's more likely to poof them again if anything else, and we can only fix them if they're out of their gems." Bismuth explained.

"What if it's like a puzzle?" Everyone turned to Spinel.

"What do you mean?" Star asked.

"They're like puzzles, they're here, but they're missing a few parts. If we give them all the pieces, eventually they'll get the picture." Spinel closed her hands together.

"Spinel, you're a genius!" Steven shouted with excitement and actually hugged the stretchy gem, showing genuine affection for the new gem for the first time she's seen. "If every experience they lost is a piece of who they are…"

"We just have to give them back all the pieces!" Marco finished.

"One experience at a time!" Kelly cheered

"Are you serious? That could take forever!" Peridot complained.

"Exactly, so let's get started!" Star shouted.

"We'll find a way, To save the day, That's who we are." They sang together, joining in epic and cool poses like they did in those comics.

"Here we are in the future!" Spinel came in and started singing on her own. "Yeah! Here we are in the future and it's wrong!"

"Ah, Spinel, we're already done with the song." Steven corrected the gem.

"Ah … okay." She nodded. "New song?"

"Maybe later, right now we.." Steven was interrupted by his phone ringing. "One sec, hold up. Hello." He took it out. "WHAT!? What do you mean you already lost Amethyst!?"

"Vee came in the room and matched up with Amethyst! I thought it was cute but then got confused for a second!" The speaker shouted. "Anyway, she's out there somewhere!"

"Gahhh!" Steven grunted in frustration. "Just one thing today, just one thing!"

========================================================================

Star watched as her brother slowly lost it. "Hey, we've got this." Marco told him. "You go off and find Amethyst. The rest of us divide and conquer." He said. "One of us will stay behind with Garnet …" He paused. "Were any of us particularly close with her?"

"I think you were the closest, she taught you how to punch." Star reminded him.

"Of course the solution couldn't come easily." Steven grumbled as he turned to leave.

"Oh, don't forget about me!" Spinel clung to her brother's back.

He sighed, turning to the pink gem. "Spinel, if we're getting memories back I can't be focusing on you today." He said, pulling away from her. "So why don't you stay here and i'll-"

The gem's face suddenly began twisting into something darker and meaner, something that would attack the moment Steven let go of her. "No!"

Flinching, everyone instinctively backed away as Steven took it as a sign to grasp Spinel's hand. "Heheh, just kidding, we can…spend the whole day together searching for our friends."

She blinked, before laughing. "Funny joke, almost had me there! Yay, the whole day together!" Spinel cheered, being completely oblivious to the dread on Steven's face.

"You sure you don't want us to poof her?" She whispered to her brother.

"No. She's less of a danger like this, and we need her around to get rid of that injector eventually." Steven sighed as he walked off, Spinel being just on his tail jumping all over the place.

"I'm gonna follow them to make sure she doesn't … you know, snap and try to murder the now powerless Steven." Kelly said on the down low, going after them.

"So all that's left for us is …" Marco looked at the still Sapphire and Ruby, before humming. "Alright, let's think about this. They worked a couple centuries under Blue Diamond, were attacked by Rose, Ruby changed the future by saving Sapphire … and Garnet was born."

"So what you're saying is that we need to do is put Sapphire in enough danger for Ruby to save her from, and we'll have our Garnet back." Star concluded as she looked to Bismuth. "So I'm powerless now. Do you have anything big and threatening we can use to scare them?"

"Sure thing." Bismuth walked inside of the shop, a few seconds passing before they came out with a wrecking ball three times Star's size. "This oughta puts fear in any tiny gem."

"... Do you have something more manageable?" She clarified.

"Really tying my hands here, but I can see if I have anything smaller." Bismuth rolled her eyes as she walked back in.

"My Sapphire, I don't trust these organisms. They clearly don't have your safety in mind." Ruby whispered to the blue gem. "I suggest that we leave while we still can."

"No need. They may talk threateningly, but they won't actually do any harm to us." Sapphire responded in her calm monotone. "No matter what they have at hand, they won't actively attack."

"Oh, if you have met my therapist you'd know I'm not above harming friends." Star commented. "Especially when it both saves my brother from stress AND said friends are acting stupid."

"Alright, here we are!" Bismuth came out with a chainsaw. "This good?"

"Perfect!" Star grabbed it. "Now come on, you don't wanna see Sapphire poofed, do ya?" She asked, putting on her best savage grin and swinging the roaring weapon around.

"I won't be poofed." Sapphire spoke. "Because when you swung that weapon around, you cut a rope that sent a piece of rubble falling onto a crevice, which is rolling to a support beam." They all turned to said support beam, which began to shake. "Then before it collapses, Ruby will push me out of the way."

"My Sapphire!" Said red gem did as the blue gem did, safely putting them out of harm's way. "Whoa, that's amazing! Your powers are incredible!"

"Oh…thank you." The blue gem blushed. Great, they got the lovebirds into each other, but still no Garnet.

"Well you may have avoided harm this time, but what about….NOW!" She threw the chainsaw right at her.

"It'll miss due to my short stature, and pass harmlessly above me, where it'll cut the ropes keeping the balance of giant cement cylinders that'll threaten to crush the human where he stands." Sapphire nodded.

"I'm sorry, crush the human?" Marco looked up, seeing the cylinders in question coming down. "Oh cheese cakes!"

"Oh for all the times for your Future Vision to actually be on point!" Star ran as she went to drag Marco out of the way.

"You really do see everything coming." Ruby's eyes sparkled as she got closer to Sapphire. "Please, tell me more."

"Okay." The blue gem smiled. "By pushing the human out of the way, the cylinders then will roll towards the Heaven and Earth Beatles, blissfully unaware of the danger they're in as they take their afternoon constitutional."

"Why is there so much dangerous construction in Nexus City!?" Star shouted.

"It's a whole freaking city! We're only about seventy percent done building it all!" Lapis shouted at her as she swooped in and got the tiny gems out of the way. "What, did you think we'd built this place out of pillow cotton and duck tape!?"

"That sounds kinda lovely actually-"

"And because the Lapis Lazuli moved them out of the way, the momentum inside of the cylinders stays constant, giving them the full force needed to hit the crane head on, creating a domino effect of falling equipment." Said equipment toppled over, crashing into the tower Bismuth had built.

"No! My scaffolding!" Bismuth cried as she did her best to save as much of the following equipment as possible.

"However, because everyone's attention was on the construction equipment, everyone failed to realize that the chainsaw is still fully operational, and has been cutting through the structure the entire time." The entire tower began to shake and crumble apart.

"You know, it's kinda amazing this entire series of events is because of one chainsaw." Marco muttered. "Or it would be if someone didn't decide to throw it randomly."

"Oh come on, I needed to make the threat real or she would've just called bluff!"

"You're so wise and astounding, my Sapphire." Ruby didn't seem to lose the complete infatuation she had for the blue gem, so maybe they could work off of that from here. "What's next?"

"The chainsaw will continue upwards on the scaffolding, until…untill…" Something seemed to have made Sapphire pause and hesitate as everyone looked upward, seeing the chainsaw cut through a rope holding up a freaking ANVIL right above their heads….or more specially right above Ruby's. "It'll cut through…and you'll be shattered!"

"Huh?" Ruby looked confused as the rope snapped, making the large piece of metal fall rapidly, almost than their eyes could even blink.

"MAGIC SOMETHING BARRIER!" Star shouted, shoving all of her powers into her fingertips. Even if she was reset, there was hopefully SOMETHING that could be done with all the effort and raw emotion she was putting into this. It did do something, it created a small, thin plate of pink light that was already cracking. "Get out…of …there….I…can't…" The barrier only cracked more.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry I couldn't stop this!" Sapphire cried, reaching out for the red gem, who seemed content with her place.

"Well….I'm glad I at least got to know you." Ruby smiled as the barrier fell, the anvil falling on top of her, with no one being able to do a damn thin-

"NOOOOOO!" Sapphire rushed forward, pushing Ruby out of the way as their eyes met, along with a familiar looking white light beginning to envelop them.

========================================================================

"Suddenly hot I'm …"Ruby.

"Suddenly cool I'm …" Sapphire.

"Suddenly a genius I'm …"Ruby.

"Suddenly a fool I'm …" Sapphire.

"Suddenly fact but I feel …" Off kilter.

"Stranger than fiction, I'm new …" A new thing.

"But I'm suddenly back…" Staring at each other, they were both taller, in similar shapes, and with three eyes. It felt so frightening, but also so inviting.

"I'm a walking contradiction!" They roamed around this new place that inexisted in her, in their minds, feeling so confused yet so relieved at the same time.

"Doesn't this have a name?" What they had just done was completely unforeseen, even with future vision. Suddenly the single path Sapphire saw was getting split. New paths were being created. More and more opportunities that were just begging to be explored.

"La-da-da-da-da." They just wanted to stay together, they wanted to hold each other, dance with each other…they wanted to spend their whole lives together.

"Doesn't this have a name? … Doesn't this have a name?" This strange and formless thing that bonded the two of them together, that melded their minds and souls into this strange bliss.

"And isn't it, isn't it, isn't it love?"Is this what love is?

"Isn't it, isn't it, isn't it love?" It feels beautiful, doesn't it?

"And isn't it, isn't it, isn't it love?" I…I don't want to be alone.

"Isn't it?....Isn't it?" I will never let you be alone

"Isn't it love...!?" She…them….what they were, formed. Three eyes with their entire body, skin, clothes, hair, being in patches of purple, red, and blue.

"Garnet!" The girl with heart marks rushed at her. "You're back."

"I…I did this before?" The fusion moved back. "I-we-we're not supposed to be together, right? The Empire would hurt us … wouldn't they?"

"What, no, Homeworld's not like that any…What's going on here?" The girl with heart marks asked. "She's fused, that's Ruby and Sapphire's whole deal, isn't it?"

"Of course, Garnet spent six thousand years together." The boy with a red hoodie groaned. "We need to restore Garnet's memories, not just Ruby and Sapphire."

"Great, more steps." They looked her over. "Hey, you want to follow us and figure out what's going on with the giant pink injector?"

"Is that a good idea?" The boy asked.

"We don't have anything else to go off of." The girl groaned. "Come with us. No one's going to hurt you."

She…it…them…they didn't know anything at the moment, only that she didn't want to be alone. "You..you know who I am…right?"

"Yeah …" They smiled. "You're our friend."

"I…I have friends?" So much new information was being given to her all at once.

========================================================================

"And now we're looking for an amnesiac Amethyst who just shapeshifts all the time." Amity listened to her girlfriend rant. "How was it that we lived a less stressful life? We fought the Collector!"

"I don't know. I'm just surprised you chose now of all times to have a picnic." Amity raised an eyebrow as the two sat down on the grass field.

"I needed something to relieve all the tension from today, and if I stayed in the house, I'd risk getting in the way of Mom's wrath." Luz explained as she bit into a sandwich. "She hasn't taken the whole 'alien women becoming eternal servant to her husband' thing that well."

"Oh yeah, that would do it." Amity took a bite of her food. "... Unless you're into that sort of thing." She looked at Luz curiously.

"Why would you think that!?" Luz accused with a large and adorable blush.

"In my search to understand human romance, I discovered 'rule 34' … I found it to be an instant justification for having you move to the boiling isles." She had no idea just how seriously humanity took sex.

"Sometimes I regret introducing you guys to the internet." Luz grumbled. "So yeah, all there's left to do really is just wait for everyone to get their memories back so they can get rid of that thing." She pointed to the large device just ahead of them.

"I see that the blended family hasn't slowed down your love of weirdness." Amity giggled. "So I take it everything's going fine on that front?"

"Oh yeah, I share most of my classes with Star, so it's never as boring as it used to be back at my school in the human world, and Steven has like five or six new songs he comes up with a week, so it's never dull around the house either." Luz smiled determinedly. "I just have to wait my time until I reach the day I finally break out into a spontaneous musical number."

"I hope you don't mind a duet." She smiled, resting her head on her girlfriend's shoulders. "So, I packed some eel cakes, want to take a bite?" Amity offered her hand out with the dish, hoping Luz would take a bite out of it from her own hand.

"Well, don't mind if I…" Luz lowered her head down, about to do exactly what she had wanted her to do-

Rumble

Quake…

Rumble

The ground below them shook and made them stumble where they sat. "Ah, Beach Creek wouldn't happen to be o na fault line, would it?" She asked, knowing better.

"Nope." Luz confirmed.

"And I take it that the pink liquid dripping from that giant machine isn't anything good either, right?" She pointed to said liquid as it fell, the grass and ground around it deteriorating all the life around them.
