Dietrich Atallah stared, numb and unmoving, as thin rivers of dark crimson flowed onto the floor of the walk-in, marble shower, swirling at the base like red spider lilies.
He couldn't recall how he had ended up sitting underneath the water, but he vaguely registered the tapestry of scratches and bruising covering his skin like abstract art.

Till flinched before the word could enter his mind and drew his knees up to his chest, choking back the scream that clawed its way up to his throat.
He was unaware at what point the water had run cold or when the skin of his hands and feet began to wrinkle, only that he could now feel the cold seeping underneath his skin.
As if from a distance, the water was suddenly shut off, a warm, soft towel enveloping his body and he was lifted out of the shower.
