Meanwhile, Cas stared out of the window of the large Civilian Personnel Carrier that had been sent to collect his family from their home and watched the Inner Zone pass him by as they approached the imposing barrier of Zone 1.
He tried to forget the last time he had passed through these gates on the back of his hover bike, his arms wrapped around Kit's body that always seemed to run hotter than other humans. He missed that heat, the smell of sunlight that emanated from his skin, the warmth in his brown and hazel eyes and the feel of his large hands wrapped around him.
His absence was weighing heavy on his heart, as though a thick cloud cover were blotting out the bright sun from his view, but Cas was comforted in the knowledge that he had made the right decision. If he had forgiven and forgotten the way that a part of him had so desperately wanted to, he knew that the same situation would play on repeat to no end and to no avail.
