"Greninja's Evolution?" Alexis was equally surprised.
He had never heard of, let alone witnessed, Greninja being capable of Evolution.
While his curiosity was genuine, now wasn't the time to delve into this mystery—he was in the middle of a battle, and his focus needed to remain on the fight at hand.
Facing Greninja after its apparent Evolution, Alexis frowned deeply.
Raw power wasn't frightening—what was truly scary was the unknown.
When Pokemon undergo Mega Evolution, most of them change their abilities, and even their types might shift.
In other words, Chris's Greninja could no longer be treated as an ordinary Greninja.
It was essentially a never-before-seen Pokemon.
"Kommo-o, Mach Punch!" While everyone was still shocked that Greninja could apparently Mega Evolve, Alexis launched his attack. Based on the nature of the move, he was clearly testing the waters.
Kommo-o rushed forward immediately, its powerful legs covered in metallic scales, both fists ready to strike like a seasoned boxer preparing to deliver a punch.
Its target was locked onto Greninja.
"Gardevoir, Mega Evolution! Dazzling Gleam!"
Chris extended his hand and snapped his fingers.
Gardevoir stepped forward gracefully on its slender legs. Its body became enveloped in colorful light with the first step, and the light burst forth with the second step.
Mega Gardevoir, now wearing what appeared to be a black wedding dress, stood protectively in front of Greninja as pink light gathered at its chest!
Kommo-o! Your opponent is me!
Mega Gardevoir launched the light orb from its hands, and Dazzling Gleam immediately filled the entire battlefield!
With Kommo-o being Fighting and Dragon-type, it took quadruple damage from Fairy-type moves—there was no reason for Chris not to use Gardevoir in this matchup!
Kommo-o immediately switched from Mach Punch to Wide Guard, crossing its arms and condensing an earthen-colored shield to block the attack that threatened to cover the entire battlefield!
"Crack!" The sound echoed like shattering glass.
When Dazzling Gleam's light faded, that was precisely when Wide Guard's protective barrier shattered!
At the same moment, Greninja struck like lightning, launching an Aerial Ace that was about to connect with its target!
Since Water-type and Dark-type moves were both resisted by Kommo-o, Greninja simply switched tactics! It had far more techniques in its arsenal than anyone could imagine!
But just as the wind-formed blade in Greninja's hand was about to strike Kommo-o, a comical figure suddenly appeared on the dragon's shoulder.
It was Mr. Rime!
Alexis had anticipated that Greninja would launch a surprise attack, so he had Mr. Rime use Teleport to provide support!
"Reflect!"
A steel-like barrier materialized in front of Greninja.
"Clang!" The steel shattered, and Reflect broke apart on impact.
After its transformation, Greninja possessed tremendous physical attack power.
But Mr. Rime's interference had achieved its intended effect, and Kommo-o immediately responded with a Mach Punch bombardment!
After missing its initial strike, Greninja had already retreated while simultaneously launching three Water Shuriken from its hands.
After its transformation, Greninja's Water Shuriken had evolved into something more powerful—the quantity decreased, but the power increased significantly.
Moreover, since Water Shuriken wasn't perfectly spherical, it fell outside the immunity range of Kommo-o's Bulletproof ability!
"Clang, clang, clang!"
Three muffled impacts rang out.
The Water Shuriken collided with Mach Punch, creating instantaneous explosions!
Water vapor and smoke filled the air.
But the steam and smoke didn't signal the end of this exchange.
The first collision between both sides was far from over!
Mega Gardevoir suddenly teleported behind Kommo-o, grasping a ball of pink light that was about to detonate.
Mr. Rime's Psychic powers had already covered the area around Kommo-o, so as soon as Mega Gardevoir appeared, it sensed the threat and immediately raised a Light Screen!
The pink orb exploded, but this time it wasn't Dazzling Gleam—it was Flash! The pink coloring was merely a shell made to resemble Dazzling Gleam and deceive the opponent.
Brilliant light burst forth, as if the sun itself had fallen onto the battlefield, so bright it was nearly impossible to keep one's eyes open!
Mr. Rime immediately fell into a temporary blinded condition.
In contrast, Kommo-o had its back turned to the Flash and wasn't blinded.
Both Alexis and Mr. Rime immediately realized that Mega Gardevoir's true target wasn't Kommo-o—it was Mr. Rime!
Greninja used its aura sensing as its eyes, closing its physical eyes and bursting out of the smoke with a blade in its right hand, slashing toward Mr. Rime with Night Slash.
But Greninja was met by Kommo-o's Mach Punch!
Mr. Rime had protected Kommo-o just moments before—now it was Kommo-o's turn to protect Mr. Rime!
"Boom!" The fist struck the ground, and Greninja's body was shattered by Mach Punch, but in the next second, another Greninja stepped onto Kommo-o's fist, wielding a dark blade as it slashed toward Mr. Rime.
The first Greninja had used Substitute!
Using Substitute to deceive the opponent's attack, then having the real body launch its assault—this was Greninja's signature tactic.
Mr. Rime was immediately sent flying and had already lost its ability to battle when it hit the ground.
Kommo-o became instantly enraged, raising its hand to fire an Aura Sphere at Greninja, who was preparing to escape after its successful strike.
Facing the Aura Sphere at close range, Greninja calmly reached up and touched something on the side of its head.
"Role Play!"
Then it calmly accepted the full force of the Aura Sphere.
When the aura energy dissipated, Greninja's mischievous expression was revealed.
Nothing was more taunting than using an opponent's own ability to defend against their attacks.
Kommo-o nearly went berserk, eager to charge in and unleash Outrage.
But what puzzled it was why its trainer's follow-up commands hadn't come through yet.
The reason was simple—its trainer Alexis was also under attack.
An Espeon was blocking Garchomp's assault using Reflect.
Seeing Espeon, Chris exclaimed, "No wonder!"
No wonder Alexis had sent Mr. Rime to assist Kommo-o. It turned out he had brought two Psychic-type Pokemon to this duel.
Was it because he was afraid that Mr. Rime alone would be overwhelmed by Mega Gardevoir, so he brought two as backup?
As for Garchomp, who was now attacking, Chris had sent it out during the collision and explosion between Greninja's Water Shuriken and Kommo-o's Mach Punch, without making any obvious movements.
