Zeraora's small fist struck Zapdos, which was dozens of times larger than itself.
A shocking scene unfolded. Zapdos was sent flying backward at an alarming speed, like a person being hit by a high-speed train. The moment it was sent flying, the sudden gust of wind created a sonic boom.
As its speed slowed slightly, the explosive force from Force Palm followed with another "BOOM!" and Zapdos was blown even farther away.
"Again, Plasma Fists," Chris commanded casually.
Compared to Deoxys, this Zapdos was far weaker. To deal with it, Zeraora alone was more than enough—and it should be able to win decisively.
"RAAH!" Zeraora was fired up and continued accelerating with Agility in midair, flashing across the sky like a dazzling silver comet.
In the blink of an eye, it had closed the distance to Zapdos.
"SCREEE!" Zapdos flapped its wings rapidly. It wasn't foolish—it had already understood from that first collision that the terrifying power of this large white-furred cat was beyond what it could withstand.
A violent wind suddenly rose, surging like waves in a hurricane. The wind even condensed into two separate storms that angled left and right to block Zeraora's advance.
By the time Zeraora shattered the Hurricane with a single punch, Zapdos had already accelerated and put thousands of meters between them, fleeing into the distance without looking back.
"SCREEE! (Damn you! I'll definitely be back!)" Zapdos cursed even as it fled.
"Running away?" Chris raised an eyebrow.
Weren't you so aggressive just a moment ago? He'd thought Zapdos was prepared to fight to the death.
"But... do you really think you can escape now?" Chris tossed out a Poké Ball.
The Poké Ball opened in midair, and Shadow Lugia descended onto the grassland.
"Let's go—chase it down!" Chris leaped onto Lugia's back and pointed in the direction where Zapdos had fled.
Zeraora had already taken off in pursuit one step ahead.
Lugia immediately beat its massive wings, and the resulting gust of wind flattened the grass across the entire prairie. With a powerful thrust, Lugia rose into the air and transformed into a silver shadow, flickering toward the horizon.
Not long after Chris left, a middle-aged man emerged from the forest at the edge of the grassland. He stared at the sky with wide, disbelieving eyes, muttering to himself.
"The God of Thunder has awakened..."
"The God of the Sea has been captured!"
"Could it be that... the prophecy of destruction is about to come true?"
In the air, on Lugia's back, Chris's expression grew thoughtful.
"A prophecy of destruction?" Chris frowned. Was there some prophecy of destruction connected to the Orange Islands?
Back on the grassland, Gardevoir had already noticed the middle-aged man observing them from hiding. Chris had seen that the man made no hostile moves, so he'd ignored him.
Now that they'd left, Gardevoir telepathically relayed the words the middle-aged man had spoken into Chris's mind.
This concerned him somewhat. After all, it involved prophecies and Legendary Pokémon. What's more, it was a prophecy about the world's destruction—didn't that usually involve first-tier Legendary Pokémon?
Chris waved his hand. "Speed up the pursuit. I want to see what this world destruction is all about."
In the sky, three streaks of light flew swiftly through the air, passing over Kumquat Island. Those who happened to be looking up at that moment only saw a flash of light—nothing that seemed particularly unusual.
They flew past Kumquat Island for another two minutes.
It had to be said, this Zapdos's speed was impressive. Even after three minutes of Lugia and Zeraora flying at full power, they still hadn't caught up.
"Nai~" Gardevoir suddenly alerted Chris. At the same time, she used her psychic power to construct a Future Sight vision and transmitted the image directly into Chris's mind.
An aerial view immediately appeared before Chris's eyes.
Three unusual islands sat upon the ocean. One island was barren and covered with rocks, constantly being struck by lightning. Another island was frozen over with a thick layer of ice. The last island was bathed in flames, its earth scorched black.
"Lightning, fire, ice..." An idea flashed through Chris's mind, and he suddenly realized what this prophecy of world destruction referred to.
"It's another movie scenario..."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chris and Lugia had already arrived in the sky above the three islands.
"SCREEE! (Brothers, wake up! There's a human who dares to mock the majesty of the gods!)" Zapdos roared loudly, calling for its two fellow Legendary birds to join the fight.
Chris reached up and recalled Zeraora to its Poké Ball, then stood on Lugia's back with his arms crossed, waiting for Zapdos to summon the other two Legendary birds.
"Your brothers don't seem very close to you!" Chris laughed.
After Zapdos's roar, Fire Island and Ice Island showed no reaction whatsoever. The flames continued burning slowly, and the ice-covered island remained motionless.
Chris felt secondhand embarrassment for Zapdos, and Zapdos itself seemed embarrassed as well.
That embarrassment quickly turned to anger.
They called themselves brothers, but now that Zapdos was in trouble, the other two just sat back and watched? What kind of brothers were they?
Zapdos immediately flew to Fire Island, opened its beak, and fired a Thunderbolt attack at it, then wheeled around and flew to Ice Island to fire another one.
Then it shouted, "SCREEE! (Brothers, that human is going to attack you too!)"
Chris was dumbfounded.
Are you sure you're Zapdos and not some trickster Pokémon? You're awfully skilled at fabricating stories and shifting blame. No wonder that in every anime or novel, Zapdos always has that standard villainous look.
However, Chris had to admit something.
Zapdos was right!
He did want all three of them!
Perhaps they heard that Chris intended to fight all three of them, or perhaps they were angry that Zapdos had attacked their islands with Thunderbolt.
The Legendary birds on Fire Island and Ice Island finally responded.
On Fire Island, if before there had only been flames burning across the small island, now the flames were consuming the entire island. Raging fire shrouded the landmass, transforming the entire island into a pillar of flame.
On Ice Island, fine cracks began appearing on the surface of the ice that had been frozen for hundreds of years. The cracks spread from the center of the island in all directions, and white mist spread along with them. Everything within a hundred-meter radius around the island began to freeze.
The next moment, two bird cries rang out simultaneously.
"SCREEE!" "SCREEE!"
Within the flames, the silhouette of a massive bird was revealed, transforming into a pillar of fire that shot straight into the sky, dyeing the entire heavens fiery red.
The ice shattered inch by inch until it finally exploded like broken glass. An ice sculpture resembling a great bird spread its wings and soared into the sky.
In Chris's vision, names and levels appeared above these two large bird-like Pokémon.
Moltres. Level 92.
Articuno. Level 93.
