Looking at the status panel displayed before him, Chris crossed his arms and fell into deep thought.
This was different from what he had anticipated.
When Gardevoir achieved its King status, the King's Domain it obtained was nearly identical to that of the previous Gardevoir King he had encountered. It resembled a Fairy Aura, radiating with the energy of Moonblast. After receiving Xerneas's blessing, it even gained the power to bestow life itself.
This pattern had led Chris to believe that upon defeating a King-level Pokémon, his own Pokémon would inherit a similar domain ability.
However, the effects described in Tyranitar's "Earth King's Domain" bore no resemblance to Earthquake whatsoever. Furthermore, the Tyranitar he had just battled hadn't exhibited any particularly overwhelming Sandstorm effects surrounding it during their confrontation.
Chris had initially assumed his Tyranitar might be at a disadvantage against Diancie, the legendary Rock-type Pokémon. But examining the tremendous stat boosts that came with activating Tyranitar's domain made him reconsider.
"Probably not," Chris muttered to himself. He retrieved a Poké Ball from his belt and tossed it toward the defeated King Tyranitar.
The King Tyranitar, having lost all ability to resist, was captured with ease.
Chris opened its status panel to examine it more carefully.
It displayed a fairly ordinary set of statistics—no Totem designation, no special coloration, and the "King" suffix that should have been present had already been transferred to Chris's Tyranitar. If there was anything noteworthy about it, it would be its individual values and ability. This was a 5IV Pokémon with a Speed stat of only 17, and its ability wasn't Sand Stream but rather Unnerve, a hidden ability.
"Does the King's Domain effect correlate with the Pokémon's ability?" Chris couldn't help but wonder aloud.
However, he quickly dismissed these thoughts.
Regardless of the answer, even if he understood the connection, there was nothing he could do to change it now. Besides, the prospect of discovering unknown domain effects with each new King-level Pokémon actually added an element of excitement and anticipation to his journey.
After storing away the freshly caught Tyranitar, Chris turned his attention to Diancie.
The Mythical Pokémon hadn't left. Instead, it had observed the entire battle from start to finish. Its luminous eyes sparkled like polished diamonds, wide with wonder. The sight was both beautiful and endearing.
"My name is Diancie. Thank you for helping me defeat that Tyranitar," Diancie said, taking the initiative to introduce itself after noticing Chris looking in its direction.
"Hello, my name is Chris. You're quite welcome—I was fortunate that it happened to be my target," Chris responded courteously before asking with genuine curiosity, "Why were you fighting with such a powerful opponent?"
Although Chris couldn't determine Diancie's exact level, based on what he'd witnessed during its battle with the King Tyranitar, it clearly hadn't yet grown to match Xerneas's overwhelming strength. Nevertheless, its combat power had to be at least level 90 or higher.
If Diancie had chosen to flee, there was no way the King Tyranitar could have caught it.
"That Tyranitar was preying upon my people, so I stood up to fight against it," Diancie explained simply.
Your people?
Chris recalled that Diancie was a mutation of Carbink, so the people it referred to must be Carbink as well.
Pokémon like Carbink possessed remarkably high base stats overall, though their distribution was quite peculiar. They boasted extremely high Defense and Special Defense, but their other attributes were merely average. This unfortunate combination meant they were frequently targeted as prey in the wild, especially by powerful Pokémon such as Tyranitar and Steelix, who preferred consuming hard materials to strengthen their own bodies.
Being hunted was simply a fact of life for Carbink.
"By the way, since your partner is also a Tyranitar, you should find this useful," Diancie suddenly said, as if remembering something important. It reached down and touched the ground beneath them. Within moments, a massive, crystal-clear diamond "grew" from the soil and emerged into Diancie's waiting hands.
Diancie presented the enormous diamond directly to Chris.
"Please consider it a thank-you gift for your assistance."
A diamond?
Chris accepted the huge gemstone with visible astonishment. Surely the largest natural diamond ever discovered by humanity wasn't this large, was it?
What practical use could this possibly have?
Perhaps he could fashion it into a wedding ring for his future bride? Though unless his wife happened to be a giant—or possessed the ability to Dynamax—she wouldn't be able to wear it even if it were crafted into a ring.
Driven by curiosity, Chris activated his Pokédex and scanned the item to check its properties.
Crystal Diamond Core
Key Item
A rare mineral essence that can only be found in the diamond mines where "Diancie" was born. When consumed by Rock-type Pokémon, it significantly increases Defense and Special Defense.
Ah, so it was a Key Item specifically beneficial for Rock-types.
Tyranitar, who had always sustained itself on rare ores and minerals, had already emerged from its Poké Ball on its own accord. It stood there drooling, gazing longingly at the Crystal Diamond Core in Chris's hand. However, seeing that its trainer hadn't yet given permission to eat, it simply stared with affectionate, pleading eyes.
Trainer, I'm hungry. Please, I'm so hungry~
Chris found the display amusing and casually tossed the Crystal Diamond Core to Tyranitar.
"Eat it slowly and savor every bite."
As the number one Rock-type Pokémon in his current lineup, he could only give it to Tyranitar. It was fortunate that he hadn't brought Aggron along today, otherwise he would have faced a difficult decision.
After all, his Aggron had earned the title of "Strongest Shield" through its incredible defensive capabilities.
"By the way, do you have more of these?" Chris couldn't help but inquire. If possible, he would very much like to obtain one for Aggron as well.
Moreover, if there were sufficient quantities available, it would be excellent to let both Tyranitar and Aggron consume additional pieces.
"There's only one large one like this, but I have several smaller pieces. Would those work for you?"
Smaller pieces?
Since they were meant to be consumed anyway, they would serve perfectly well as snacks for both Tyranitar and Aggron in the future.
Chris naturally welcomed the offer. "Of course, that would be wonderful. Thank you very much."
