Chapter 29 - What if Molly

I met my new roommates. I was trembling with fear. The new ones introduced themselves as Irene and Sonja. We bonded and I got two new friends. Both immigrated from Ukraine. I mentioned my family's Ukrainian bloodline. They were pleased to see someone from home. Sonja was the one who looked around and mentioned how the other girl wasn't here. I asked her who she was referring to. She explained that she has light brown hair and an athletic body. I have never met her so she searched the school records and found her. I guess she stayed away because she believes that I am a threat. I am not concerned. With my friends to back me up I have nothing to worry about. I promised to keep an eye out for her. The next morning was hosing day. We walked out after breakfast and checked for make up and other cosmetic assistance. Those with make up had was hosed till they were soaked to the bone. The rest of us were wet but not that severely. We all waited in rows out in the sunlight for an hour before the soldiers called our names. When it was my turn I walked into the tent and moments later a young girl walked in. It took me a minute to remember she was the girl Irene was talking about. I gave her a once over and discovered she had mechanical enhancements. She stared at everyone and realized her mistake but now the soldiers were curious. They pointed their gun at her face and ordered her to get out. They used a UV gun to illuminate my skin and gave me a bar of silver to hold. I squeezed tightly and counted to fifty before I opened my fist. One of the lab coats smelled like a wet dog. He used gloves to take the piece of silver and waved me off. She was asked to do the same. They inquired why she burst in before her turn and she said that she has a doctor's appointment so she was hoping to be in front of the queue. I walked out of the tent as the soldier apologized politely. I gave him a smile. I gave her the look of death.

I walked out as the headmistress declared the rest of the day was off. I reached my friends and Irene pointed her out. I explained, "she gatecrashed me." The others started hurling insults and followed me upstairs. We managed to reach our dorm when she came over to defend herself, "I didn't gatecrash." I turned around, "You were supposed to wait your turn. You didn't. You burst right in. You're lucky they didn't open fire. If they did I wouldn't stop them" she raised an eyebrow, "So if last night happened in front of soldiers, you would let us die" I grimaced,"I would save Irene, Sonja, Anna, Alice and Daisy. I noticed them. I didn't even notice you." She cringed, "Ouch." She took a deep breath before trying again, "It is a beautiful day outside. Do you want to go to the woods and see how fast you are?" I yawned, "No thanks. I would rather get some sleep." The supervisor came and Irene complained that Molly was harassing us. Molly tried to say something but apparently she has been behaving erratically. The old man told her to go to complete her detention or she will be suspended. She explained, "I am here to study for biology. Mr Rogers said something about a pop quiz." We looked at one another and said in one voice, "NO" the supervisor didn't need any further explanation. He pointed at the stairs and she stomped off. I got a good look at her bionics. The left arm, left leg and left ear were machines. The rest was flesh and blood.

We decided we were going to evict her from school one way or the other. We first decided to see how far she can hear us so we can determine how we can have a normal conversation while we navigate our way through school. Anna countered, "What if she pretended and then we found out much later." While the girls were discussing how to get rid of Molly so we could have some semblance of peace I wondered how mom was doing. I told the girls to call me if anything happens. I am going to see how mom was doing. Daisy asked how I was getting out. I simply closed the windows and shut the curtains. I looked out to make sure Molly wasn't anywhere nearby. Then I gave a demonstration of my invisibility. The girls gave a round of applause. I gave them my number and before being invisible and flying out of the dorm. I reached mom in ten minutes. I watched her work from a distance and I didn't eavesdrop. I felt it was a violation of her rights so I just watched. After an hour the phone buzzed and Irene mentioned that Molly was outside. She was knocking persistently and then the knocking. My gut told me to go back to school. So after one last look I went back to the dorm. I slipped on my pyjamas and ruffled my hair.

I made sure to look as sleepy as possible. There was a knock on the door I opened it pretending to sleep. I mumbled, "Hey is it the next day? Are we late for class? Did Mrs Gray decide the topic for next week's debate? Did Mr Forbe approve group studies? I spent the last hour trying to understand trigonometry. But I am afraid I will need his help. Are we...." I stifled a yawn and used my index finger and thumb to 'forcefully open my eyes' then pretended to flinch because of the 'bright light', "Seriously am I talking to thin air. Say something. Please?" A hand tucked my hair behind the ears and a polite voice answered, "Go back to sleep. Mr Forbe will approve group studies. He is going to need it if he wants tenure." I smiled softly as I pretended to sleep. I whispered, "God bless you and may your day get better. I hope you are safe....." I pretended to fall asleep nice and slowly and I started snoring. I slid down an inch or two before jumping up in shock. I saw the corridor was empty. I went inside and locked the door. Irene and Sonja started laughing and the others stared at me with an incredulous look before joining in.

The next day I was enjoying lunch when Molly came with questions. She wanted to know why I was eating regular food when I could be eating raw meat. I asked her if she was as deranged as everyone says she was. She gave me a look of contempt. She blinked twice and continued questioning me. I on the other hand ignored her as though she was nothing more than a mosquito. She finally got tired of the silent treatment, "Answer me. I have to tell my dad. He is going to tell the military about you." I looked directly at her face. I ordered her to leave me alone. I didn't use hypnosis. I didn't think it was necessary. She made it clear that she will keep coming until she gets what she wants. The perfect modification with no need for an upgrade. I grinned, "Where is your proof? It will be your word against mine. If I use a defibrillator on your mechanical arm it is useless. I could just as easily expose you as a bionic. Pretty sure the military isn't aware of your father's illegal experiments. They will abscond your father's research. Your father will be arrested." She stared for a moment and walked away. I went to the librarian and volunteered to help sort the book back to their proper section. I slipped out to check the security room. After a few minutes of perusing it was apparent which cameras worked and which ones didn't. I went back and helped her. She promised to help me one of these days. So that's what I did after class. I spent an hour helping her before going to my dorm.

I saw Molly talking to her father Mr. Byron. I decided to make everyone think she has lost her marbles. I went to the librarian and volunteered. She was happy for the helping hand. I excused myself to use the bathroom and zipped out at torpedo speed. I bumped into Molly on purpose. I made sure she believed that I was sneaking out of school. She would report it and I would be helping Mrs Finch. It worked out better than I imagined. I snuck back to the library and asked which ones needed sorting. She waved at a huge pile of first editions. I happily pushed the cart towards the side shelves not far from the front desk. I arranged according to the date of publication. Till it was I must arrange according to the edition and level of importance in a curriculum. Most were first editions publications but there was only one second edition. There were no third editions. As predicted Molly came with the headmistress. She saw me sorting through the boring books in history of mankind. Political sciences and books on taxes. The lovely madam told her to stop harassing students or she will be evicted. It was going to be in her transcripts. She screamed in frustration. The librarian told her to be quiet. The library is a place of quiet reflection. Molly stormed out as she was given extra detention.

I finished the sorting and assisted in inventory. I got out feeling good about myself. I heard a shriek. Panic overtook me as I looked for the culprit. It was Molly. She charged at me with a pair of scissors. Not the safety scissors used by kindergartners. I mean the type of scissors used by tailors. Huge metal ones with pointy tips. She tried to stab me several times. I ran back to the library and she got up to see a crazy student charging forward with a kitchen. She called security and told her to get out. Molly flung a chair in her direction before chasing me again. The other students picked up their phones. She had decided to stop pretending to be normal. She used enhanced strength and speed. The security had to use tasers to incapacitate her just so they could get out there. Anna heard from someone and she came running. She informed the others. They woke up the headmistress. The woman didn't think twice. She called the police and mom came over. She wasn't happy about the student body. Molly finally blurted out that I am a werewolf. The headmistress summoned me and had me hold a thick silver necklace. I rolled up my sleeves before wrapping it around the length of my forearm. I admire the beauty craftsmanship before asking if it was for sale. The headmistress answered, "I am afraid it is not for sale. Why did miss Byron call you a werewolf?" Alice answered, "We were coming out of Jasper's party. Because we heard that the drinks were spiked. We didn't want to file a rape. Molly here had taken a few happy pills. She was hallucinating. So we decided to help get back but she brushed us off before heading elsewhere." In her anger decided to take us all to the spot where the bad werewolves were buried. To her dismay none were found it didn't look disturbed at all. In fact the place looked like it hadn't been disturbed in years. Molly yelled in frustration as I requested a drug test. She tried to deflect it. She refused to have her blood drawn. It would prove that she wasn't high as a kite. The school tested her hair and discovered a myriad of drugs. She was evicted and her father was told to get counseling. I had others vouch for me. The fact that Molly had no one to vouch for her made things a lot easier. The headmistress apologized a tonne before sending someone over to clear Molly's room.
