Lynn hadn't been at the park for more than ten minutes when she saw two of Alex's men approaching her from across the damp path. Of course they found her this fast.

Their black coats stood out even in the mist, and the way they scanned their surroundings as they walked told her everything, Alex had already realized she was gone.

She sighed, pushing off the bench before they even reached her. "I just needed some fresh air," she said quickly when she saw the worried look on their faces. Her tone came out softer than she intended, tired more than defensive.

The older of the two, a tall man with graying hair and an earpiece tucked discreetly behind his collar, stopped a few feet away. "It isn't safe out here, ma'am. We..."

"You can't let me out of your sight until Victor is caught, I know," Lynn finished for him, her lips curving into a humorless smile. "My husband probably gave you a stern order."
