Chapter 97 - CHAPTER 95: Alex Wesker

Wesker had samples of various types of viruses, including the T-virus, the G-virus, the T-Veronica, and the parasite Las Plagas, all obtained from Umbrella as a high-level reward.

With wealth and power, Wesker seemed to have everything one could desire—but he had little interest in material riches.

Because a familiar sense of fear constantly consumed him. The source of this unease was the founder of Umbrella, Oswell E. Spencer. Old doubts still haunted Wesker.

To uncover the truth and obtain essential information about the Progenitor Virus that had eluded him, Wesker began searching for Spencer. The only problem was that, even before Umbrella was dismantled, Spencer had already withdrawn from the company's management.

By that point, Spencer had gone into hiding, and no one knew where he had gone—not even Javier's spies could find any clues about his whereabouts.

There were two Weskers: Albert Wesker and Alex Wesker. They were not siblings, but their origins could both be traced back to one of Spencer's plans.

Spencer wanted to develop a virus that would make humans evolve and give birth to a new, superior human race. He would use this race to build his utopia and rule over it as a god.

The "Wesker Project" aimed to use hundreds of children born to highly intelligent parents as test subjects. Umbrella secretly ensured that these children received the best education possible in carefully controlled environments, instilling Spencer's values and ideals in them.

When the time was right, all the Weskers were injected with an experimental virus (the one given to Albert Wesker was administered by William, though Albert never knew it was part of Spencer's plan). This virus was meant to eliminate the less talented Weskers. As a result, most of them died, with only a few survivors remaining.

Spencer hoped that these children, all named "Wesker," would help him realize his dream of becoming a god. Ironically, that very dream was destroyed by Albert Wesker and Alex Wesker.

The Wesker he created led him to an irreversible downfall. One could say Spencer made the worst mistake possible.

Alex, like all Weskers, had been trained and indoctrinated by Spencer, eventually rising to a high position within Umbrella and becoming the head of a major project.

There was even a photo of her working at Umbrella alongside another Wesker—Albert Wesker—who was one of the research subjects. Although she initially intended to carry out Spencer's ideals and achieve immortality, like Albert, she eventually realized that continuing to obey that old man was foolish and began preparing to betray him.

The agent sent by Javier managed to contact the missing spy and brought back information on Alex Wesker. As far as he could tell, she disappeared to escape from Spencer.

At some point, Alex discovered she had an incurable illness that greatly weakened her. She and Albert were injected with the same mutated strain of the Progenitor Virus. However, due to her illness, she did not become "superhuman"—she merely survived as a normal person.

To cure herself, Alex Wesker went into hiding from Spencer and used all her resources to conduct personal research in hopes of finding a cure.

On July 19, 2000, Alex led a large research team, under the command of Stuart, across the ocean to the remote Sein Island—a small Russian island that had suffered economic collapse after the fall of the Soviet Union.

She promised to revitalize the industry in the region by resuming mining operations and extracting the island's natural resources. Through promises of inspiration and job opportunities, Alex won the hearts of the locals and became known as a savior—respected and loved by the community.

Her research team also praised her leadership and affectionately called her "Ms. Alex," following her loyally. Secretly, Alex used the recruited miners as test subjects in the development of the T-Phobos virus, turning most of them into bio-weapons.

After Umbrella's total collapse, Alex continued working for Spencer as the last remaining "Wesker Child" by his side.

In Spencer's eyes, she was the most intelligent of them all. He once said, "Alex is good at learning from many people." Alex was assigned to lead a research project for Spencer at a facility on Sonido de Tortuga Island, where she was to conduct in-depth research on Umbrella's viruses, aiming to uncover a way to attain immortality through the Progenitor Virus for Spencer.

Alex failed to develop a successful version of the virus, but she made use of the resources granted for the project to further her own research. During this time, she reported progress to Spencer merely to keep the funding flowing.

Then, in 2006, she took all of her research and abandoned both Spencer and the island.

Alex returned to her own island, where she continued studying the virus in an attempt to cure herself.

At that point, Alex had not yet descended into complete madness. Her team continued working on the virus, and people were still serving her on Sein Island.

Javier calmly read through the information and set it aside. Alex Wesker could be considered a genius, but her madness was no less than that of Albert Wesker. Both were lunatics.

Without fully understanding the virus, using it recklessly to try and create a new kind of human could only be described as a desperate rush for quick results.

Now, with both lunatics absorbed in their own grand schemes, Javier decided to ignore them for the time being and let them slowly rot in their own madness.

Javier then received a call from Natasha, asking him to come to Washington. He didn't know what it was about, and Natasha didn't tell him either—so he simply went.

When he arrived at a hotel in Washington, Natasha was already waiting for him. Upon learning the true purpose of the visit, Javier immediately felt the urge to run away.

"Hmph. If you really want to be useful, then entertain me, try to throw those pathetic power stones at me. Let's see if even your insolence can amuse a king."
