Chapter 406 - Chapter 406 the Grandmaster

Although Ego has the power to incarnate as a human, he himself does not possess human emotions.

More accurately, Ego was born at the dawn of the universe from a consciousness that gestated over eons, and then he began to experiment with expanding his abilities, eventually evolving into a planet.

Later, the planetary incarnation, Ego, developed a human physical form.

But as a being with a lengthy, nearly endless lifespan, Ego could not possibly have the same, or even similar, emotions and moral judgments as humans.

He also lacks a moral standard to measure his actions—he does whatever he wants, says whatever he wants, without any concerns.

The brief lives of humans seem to him like fleeting clouds, here one moment and gone the next.

Ego thoughts have never aligned with those of humans.

Compared to Asgardians like Thor, Ego could truly be called a god he is omnipotent on his own planet.

Moreover, over his long life, Ego set a grand objective for himself and has always strived toward making his existence meaningful.

It can be said that all his actions are geared towards achieving his own goals.

Given Anton understanding of Ego, to say that Ego would seek vengeance against Superman and others for the death of Star-Lord, Peter Quill, is completely unrealistic.

As a universal playboy and prolific progenitor, Ego has visited many planets and fathered children with various alien species.

But those of his children who do not inherit divine attributes are disposed of by him annually.

In Ego view, the fact that he became the father of these children is purely because he approached it as an experiment, not out of any so-called emotion.

Even if there were emotions, Ego would not allow them to interfere with achieving his goals.

The saying on Earth, "Even tigers do not eat their young," does not apply in Ego eyes.

To expand his own being—that is, the life coverage of his planetary body—and to make his own planet greater, Ego is willing to pay a price far beyond anyone imagination.

"A planet?"

Carol, unlike Superman who shares Anton memories and understands the context, was dumbfounded upon hearing Superman explanation, hardly able to imagine that Peter Quill biological father was a planet.

"A planet... are you sure?"

Carol couldn't help but repeat, then asked further, "How can a planet have offspring with a human? And if Peter Quill is the offspring of a planet, why does he look just like a human, without any alien features?"

"That exactly why Ego had people dig up Peter Quill body."

Superman explained, "The reason Ego went to Earth to conceive Peter Quill with a human was because he wanted to find an heir who inherited his divine attributes, then consume this heir to strengthen his own planet...

For this purpose, he disperses countless avatars of himself annually, traveling to every life-bearing planet in the universe, much like a dandelion seeding itself in the wind, merging with various life forms across the cosmos…"

"So, he has many children, and these children are all beings he uses…"

Carol felt a chill as she began to understand Ego more deeply under Superman explanation, also faintly grasping why Superman would say that Ego would not seek revenge for Star-Lord.

"It just a son, hardly worth mentioning in Ego heart."

"Ego wouldn't take action against us just because of the death of an insignificant son."

"That would be pointless and might even have unnecessary repercussions."

"As a sentient planet that stops at nothing, Ego wouldn't do something meaningless."

"Since you think this doesn't affect us, let go back to our previous topic."

Carol said, "About the Kree and the Black Order."

"I've already told you, without Thanos, they're nothing."

Superman replied.

As he spoke, he kept his gaze fixed on the blonde woman in front of him, sensing that she had more to say, ideas fermenting.

"Speaking of the Kree and Thanos, do you have other thoughts?"

Superman paused, then suddenly said, "I'm curious, if it were up to you, what would you do?"

"Take the initiative."

Carol didn't hesitate, her response straightforward and decisive.

Her expression was serious and resolute, "If you knew my history, you'd know I'm not someone to be trifled with.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have been wandering the universe alone for so long. The Kree have always been my enemies, and as for Thanos...

from the moment he ordered the Chitauri to strike Earth, his fate was sealed, just like the Kree."

"I see."

Superman wasn't surprised, as if he had anticipated Carol words.

"Then let set off right away."

He spoke calmly, "I believe you've already located the Kree forces, or Thanos Black Order."

"You agree?"

Carol was surprised, extremely excited, "That great, Superman, I knew you weren't one to shy away! Let turn their world upside down and show the Kree and Thanos what we're made of!"

Her initial probe about the Kree and Thanos Black Order was meant to gauge Superman stance.

Clearly, she saw that Superman did not consider these forces a priority.

However, possibly influenced by his less aggressive style, Superman wasn't planning to strike first but to wait for the right moment.

How long would that waiting last?

Carol was not willing to dodge the battle.

After all, since she first gained her powers and re-entered space, she had been a foe of the Kree Empire for over a decade.

On the Kree Empire most-wanted list, Carol name was at the top.

This was proof of Carol resolve.

"Sakaar!"

Carol said, "The Kree are too scattered, and Ronan won't show up easily, so our first target is Thanos Black Order. As far as I know, all four of them are currently on Sakaar, in the territory of the Grandmaster."

"Sakaar... the Grandmaster..."

Superman heard these names without changing his expression, but inside he was somewhat astonished.

"This is intelligence from Gamora channel."

Carol continued, "These days, Gamora hasn't exposed herself she has sided with us, secretly gathering information. The news that Thanos sent the Black Order to trouble us also came from her."

"Then let depart."

After all, as Superman, he had traveled the universe long enough.

He knew the location of Sakaar, and he also knew that traveling to Sakaar did not require a long interstellar journey there were faster ways.

Sakaar, in fact, is the junk-filled planet from Thor: Ragnarok, where Thor, Loki, and Hulk found themselves.

Located in the peculiar Tayo star system, Sakaar is the only planet in this system capable of supporting life. The planet is incredibly diverse, with unbelievable rock formations, deserts, volcanoes, wastelands, islands, lakes, and oceans.

Most notably, the surface of Sakaar is surrounded by various cosmic gateways, both known and unknown. Simply put, it encircled by numerous wormholes, making it quite dangerous. Ordinary spacecraft cannot normally enter or exit Sakaar outer space.

This makes Sakaar almost isolated from the outside world, with extremely difficult access. Many people from other planets use it as a dumping ground and a place for exiling criminals, generally making it an undesirable destination.

Of course, it generally undesirable.

Sakaar unique characteristics mean the planet is littered with junk, and its people are rugged and violent. Due to their tough and violent nature, the inhabitants greatly enjoy arena fighting.

This is also why Hulk and Thor end up meeting in the arena in the plot of Thor: Ragnarok.

Additionally, the Grandmaster is the leader of Sakaar, or rather, its only conglomerate and the controller of the social order.

Whoosh! Whoosh whoosh!

Superman, Carol, Gamora, and Nick Fury, after spending a considerable sum, arrived directly on Sakaar through teleportation technology.

They found themselves in a sea of garbage, the indescribable stench causing them to frown.

"Truly a planet filled with garbage and exiles."

Carol rose into the air, surveyed the area, and saw nothing but trash as far as the eye could see.

Far away, many scavengers piloted spacecraft, operating mechanical arms, searching the ocean of junk for items that could be reused or recycled.

Honestly, this scene somewhat changed her view of Sakaar.

Though remote and the universe dumping ground for trash and criminals, the planet technology was not lacking.

Carol vaguely understood that as many planets used Sakaar as a junkyard, its technology could potentially draw from various civilizations, naturally surpassing the ordinary.

While pondering, she landed back next to Superman, Gamora, and Nick Fury.

"We must head into the city from this landfill."

Then, looking at Gamora, she asked, "According to your information, the Black Order—Corvus Glaive, Black Dwarf, Proxima Midnight, and Ebony Maw—are all here. Do you know their exact location?"

"I don't know."

Gamora was very straightforward: "It already quite an achievement that I could find out they are here you can't expect me to know everything."

She paused, then added,"They appear here because the arena fights on Sakaar are some of the most exciting in the galaxy. They often come to watch the fights and sometimes take a few fighters back home with them..."

"They take fighters as underlings?"

Superman squinted his eyes: "I remember, the Grandmaster is the ruler here. All arena fights are under his control without his permission, no one can take fighters from the arena... That a taboo of the arena."

"You mean, the Grandmaster definitely knows their location."

Carol realized.

"Even if he doesn't know, he has contact."

Gamora nodded in agreement: "That Thanos, after all. In this universe, very few dare disobey Thanos orders. The Grandmaster, just a local emperor of a planet, surely acts like a lackey to the commands of the Black Order..."

The Grandmaster?

Superman had a decent understanding of this guy.

In the films, the Grandmaster image, as Gamora mentioned, is indeed that of Sakaar local emperor, quite powerful, but still no match for Thanos, the director of universal population control.

In the film post-credits scene, the Grandmaster was even overthrown by the rebels of Sakaar, his fate unknown, likely buried alive.

From this, it clear he not a particularly troublesome character.

Superman now thought of the Grandmaster from the previous comic book settings, a member of the cosmic elders, not to be underestimated.

In the comics, Ego is also a member of the cosmic elders.

As for what the cosmic elders are, they can be simply viewed as a few cosmic intelligent beings who initially safeguarded the Infinity Stones.

In the cinematic universe, there are mainly three members of the cosmic elders.

Collector, Ego, Grandmaster...

Apart from Ego, the other two are pretty useless.

However, it worth mentioning that in the comics, the Grandmaster is absolutely a master capable of challenging Thanos.

He possesses nearly infinite life, extremely powerful psychic abilities, immunity to aging and all diseases, imperviousness to physical attacks, and also has powerful regenerative abilities.

Additionally, the Grandmaster can convert his cosmic energy into various powers such as levitation, energy projection, psychic abilities, matter manipulation, and time and space travel.

In the comics, the Grandmaster even possesses a powerful resurrection ability, capable of reviving any life form that has died within the past 30 hours.

Another interesting aspect is that the Grandmaster is well-versed in thousands of games and competitions throughout the universe.

His vast knowledge and game theory far exceed modern human understanding, and because he has lived so long and grown bored, he is keen on various types of gambling.

In the comics, Thanos took the Mind Stone from the Grandmaster through a gamble.

In the movies, the only common trait with the above setting might be his "keen interest in various types of gambling."

"I think the Grandmaster should be over there."

Suddenly, the always silent Nick Fury spoke up, snapping Superman back to attention as he looked in the direction Nick Fury pointed.

At that moment, he saw that all the spacecraft in the junkyard were rapidly rushing towards the direction Nick Fury indicated.

Various sounds continued to ring in his ears.

"The arena fight is about to start!"

"Hurry, get back and place your bets! I'm definitely winning the prize today!"

"Dream on, haha, I'll be the victor today."

The scavengers conversations made it clear to everyone present why these people suddenly left the junkyard.

"The Grandmaster is the boss of the arena..."

Gamora thought of something: "We could probably find him at the arena."
