Chapter 454 - The True Scale

Vex sighed, watching as every member of Unity able to launched at him.

Jacob with his immense speed...

Justin with countless tendrils of solidified blood influenced with his impressive affinity.

Hans although injured, using his own earthly affinity to imbue himself with a continues supply of strength of artificial armor.

Kaylynn with wind-based attacks that almost brought laughter to Vex's lips.

Luke was somewhere hidden in the dust behind him, readying his one-handed blade with what he thought was skilled precision.

Gideon was nearby as well... Clearly influencing the gravity of the plaza... However, it was no use as Vex had already been weighing himself down incase of the events of accidentally killing one of them too early...

And the other Vex had already forgotten the name of... The one with the brass knuckles, who had been completely taken out of the battle with that one attack...

'So dissatisfying...' Vex thought, rolling his eyes as his blade began to move before time itself could realize what was happening.

With several parries and counter-attacks... The lot of Unity was put to the ground with incredible speed. Completely immobilizing every single one of them as Vex smiled at the center of the chaos.

It was all pointless.

"How could it not be?" His thoughts leaked out with a dread instilled tone.

After all...

...

Several years ago, Vex walked emotionless down an aisle... The only light being that emanating from the torches held by few guards along the walls of the eerie hall.

Vex was completely naked... Covered head to toe in bruises and open cuts...

SNAP!

A whip lashed against Vex's back as no sound left his lips.

No motion hidden even beneath the shadows of his unwavering eyes.

He felt unstoppable...

A grin began to tear at the corners of his horribly chapped lips.

"GUARDS! PROTOCALL!" One of the sword-wielders yelled as Vex's shackles wrist broke from its cuff, snapping towards the guard with hideous speed.

He froze, his eyes wide... And suddenly... His neck exploded with shrapnel as Vex's clawed grip remained beneath the horrified expression of the now body-less head.

Several guards began to close in on Vex, who's sternum was gaping wide open with rivers of blood running down his countless wounds.

He was like a wild dog being herded to his death...

A Catalyst lacking Paladin...? How revolting...

Those had been the exact words that The Grand Paladin-filled with laughter: Had used to mock to the young man.

And it broke Vex's mind, completely tearing apart his view on reality...

So during the transitioning that would lead to his execution in the gallows of The Grand Capital... He had began to think. And by think...

Veximus had began to evolve his very way of thinking... Isolating himself from the rest of humanity and taking a new approach...

After all...

The Grand Paladin was right...

How can a Paladin be exiled from one of the vital elements?

Well...

Vex had a realization.

His mind had broken the barrier stopping him from reaching a further state of strength...

Something that could rival any other Paladin...

The guards suddenly stopped closing in... And the man himself appeared in the flesh.

No...

Vex knew that was no man...

But to have the honor of being slain by The Grand Paladin himself... Was a mockery that Vex had no wish in partaking in.

He moved before Zen could, launching an attack strong enough to rip the ceiling from the very dungeons they stood within.

And Zen let out a barrage of laughter as he gazed up at the colossal blade of energy in awe.

However...

A far greater mockery...

Was to be knighted by the very man who sent you to you're death...

...

Vex hurled himself at the knocked down Luke, spinning his blade elegantly as he descended, landing and slashing several times before he could move.

After all, he was the only one capable of moving...

Vex smiled, narrowly missing the beheading of the bandit by a mere inch.

'They don't understand... How could they?' Vex's eyes widened as Luke retaliated.

And the picture became crystal clear.

Everything played out as if in a bird's eye view.

The gap between Unity... And The Vex of Seh Jenah... Was far far greater than he had led on.

In a panic, Luke summoned everything available to block Vex's assault. But his power was inevitable, slashing straight through everything that Luke threw at him.

With the blade inching towards his neck, Hans appeared with a roar, destroying the ground further and caving everyone down ten or so feet.

Vex caught himself with his own blade, piercing the ground and tearing it straight out with a new dust cloud that would block the vision of Unity.

He turned, smiling as he grabbed Justin by the throat, throwing him at the wall and instantly shifting his gaze back to Hans.

'This is stupid...' Vex thought, easily side-stepping Hans powerful strike.

'Why are they even here? What purpose does this serve? That son of Blaze couldn't possibly have a reason to dethrone another king!' He kicked Hans back sliding, summoning a giant wall of rocks that shattered underneath arcs of indigo energy from Vex's blade.

'Unless...' Vex's eyes glanced up at the sky, almost enraged as the full scope of the situation began to play out in his mind.

'Eternity... You think I can't see your gaze... Do you think that I'm a fool!? Is this punishment? Or merely a play of the Gods...? No matter...' Vex began to growl, knocking aside all of Hans' defenses with the flat of his sword.

"What kind of sick and twisted joke is this? Why must I be the one who is subjected to this pointless endeavor? Is it not obvious I will storm this fight blindfolded and with a single hand!? Must I not even use my affinity once!? I've been going easy this entire time!? So why!? Why won't you just flee already!?" Vex screamed in outrage as he completely tore through Hans' remaining attacks, sending his clawed fist flying straight at Hans' chest and launching him into a wall at horrifying speeds.

Jacob slid past, slashing at Vex's ankle only for the bleeding to instantly stop before it could even reach the ground.

"Tch." Jacob vanished in a hurry, sprinting back up onto elevated surface before turning his head.

'HUH?' Vex was soaring directly at him from behind... Completely surpassing the speed of Jacob entirely.

Vex shot a hand out, only for Jacob to quickly lower his head as his feet frantically sped up below him.

That's when Jacob's eyes lowered, seeing that Vex's own feet... Were not even on the ground.

'How is he...?' Jacob's movement snapped, and suddenly he was held under the force of Vex's clawed grip.

'He's faster than me?!' Vex grinned as Jacob could only think in shock.

SLAM!

Jacob's back hit the ground at a truly terrifying speed.

Vex looked down with distain as he turned his gaze back towards the small crater he had came from.

'It's... It's impossible...' Jacob thought, peering into Vex's eyes... And for a split second...

His iris's had merged and shifted into slowly rotating gears... As if...

'No... I did not sign up for this...' Jacob ankles hit the ground as a burst of Axis accelerated his body, sending himself dragging across the ground at agonizing speeds.

Vex meanwhile, had already entangled with Luke who had engaged once again despite his state.

"Something is happening..." Justin muttered, picking himself from the ground as Hans did the same nearby.

"No shit." Hans spat, lowering his body and touching the ground below.

"What?" Justin asked quickly, already siphoning his energy and preparing another offensive of his own.

"I'm trying to win..." Hans said, his eyes fixated the ground...

Suddenly... His eyes lit up... And his mind flashed with sensory feelings that began to pulse in rhythm to the battle taking place in the plaza.

"There it is..." Hans grinned, standing back up and cracking his heavily damaged knuckles.
