The late afternoon sun, filtered through the thick canopy of the Aster Province forest, cast dappled shadows on the weary travelers. A week of constant marching, punctuated by brief rests, had taken its toll. Li An, with her unassuming frame and quiet demeanor, walked among the outer sect disciples, her eyes scanning the surroundings. For the past day, an unsettling sensation had prickled at the back of her neck – a faint, sinister aura that seemed to cling to the very air. It wasn't threatening in an immediate sense, but it was pervasive, a subtle chill that spoke of something unnatural.

"Anyone else feel that?" Rishab grumbled, wiping sweat from his brow. His robust frame, usually radiating confidence, seemed a little less so today.

Meera, the leader of their White Lotus Valley contingent, nodded, her brow furrowed. "It's been growing stronger since morning. Like a pall over the forest. But we haven't encountered anything."
