It seems like Nova is no longer here with Cupid…
Wait, Cupid slowly closed his eyes. Why am I saying this like Nova is dead and is protecting me from the sky after ascending to become an angel or something…
It's not that serious…right…?
Not really…seemingly, this is not that serious to Cupid, yet significantly affecting others.
As you can see here, it seems that usually Cupid will go wherever Nova goes in their free time, but since Nova is no longer here, Cupid is now going wild…
"Have you seen Cupid anywhere? I need his help with…Cupid!"
A familiar body lying on the garden grass and rose…his classmate was surprised, scared, and impressed at the way he was able to sleep so soundly in a bunch of rose thorns and sharp grass.
"H…how did he do that…"
He does have his winter sweater on, but it's still impressive…His classmate decided to walk away and ask him to help later on…he feels like his life is on the line if he tries to wake this sleepy beauty up.
Another student spotted Cupid with a shovel in his hand, digging the backyard up.
"W…what are you doing?!"
"Uh?" Cupid looked up with his motionless eyes as always: "Help the janitor with his work. I asked, and he said I can do it if I like and have free time on my hands."
"Oh…alright…?"
Cupid looks down and continues to dig, like never getting to dig in his life. He seemed somewhat happy?
Another saw Cupid talking with a frog next to the hallway window…
"Nice skin you got there…that pattern is a rare one…did you just get back from a swim?"
He…he talks to a frog?! He seemed so normal about it…what is going on…?
As Cupid held the frog with both of his hands and raised them up high, he said in an emotionless voice: "When you grow up! Will you be the savior of the broken, or the beast and the damned?"
What is he doing???
"Oh, I didn't see you there." Cupid looks back at that student: "I just played with this guy for a bit, I'll be going now." As he held the frog and walked past that student, they wondered, what the heck did they just witness…
The absence of Nova, Riley, and even the student council's important members leaves the school in a vulnerable stage…even just for a week…a present that exists in class A-2 has caused some students confusion and loss.
And Yunne gets to be the fourth witness after finishing her class activity and walking out into the schoolyard.
"C…Cupid?! It's that you?"
A pair of legs sticking out of the bushes nearby, a very familiar pair of legs…then she heard the voice of an angel of love that everyone is gossiping about, the one she tried to ask to get close to their best friend for her own purpose of love…
"Ah…Yunne…" but the pair of legs shows no sign of moving: "My apologies for startling you."
"It…alright…but…mind if I ask, what are you doing right now?"
"Oh…" He finally moved backward a bit, showing his body out of the bushes: "I was simply trying to observe this bug."
Yunne curiously moved closer and bent her knees down. "Wow…is that a beetle? It's a big one…"
"Yes…" Cupid nodded his head slightly. "It had a blue-ish color, and it was bigger than most of the ones I saw."
"It seems to be a dung beetle!"
"Oh! They make a small ball of dirt and roll it with their legs?"
"That's right!" Yunne nods happily
"Will we get to witness this little do that?" Cupid points at the little guy that still moving around. He has no idea what this little bug is doing at all, but looking at them is so fun that he can keep doing this for another hour.
"I'm afraid we don't have enough breaktime for that…" Yunne sadly said, both of them looked at each other in the eyes with a hint of disappointment.
Cupid stood up and wiped the dirt from his clothes: "Sorry for confusing you just now, Yunne."
"It's alright! I get to see a cute beetle, so it's fine."
"Is that so…"
"Yes, it's fine by me." Yunne studenly remember something: "Ah, I was about to head to the cafeteria, do you want to…"
"Sure, I'll go with you. Wait, but…" Cupid was thinking about asking Yunne about her best friend, but why don't you invite them too, but he was quirky being reminded who this best friend is…ah yes, Rose…she should also be at the gift school taking the test now.
"Yes? Is there something wrong?"
"No…nothing, let's go to the cafeteria."
Both of them walk their way to the cafeteria. On the way there, Yunne starts wondering; she has never seen Cupid going to the cafeteria by himself or with anyone else.
Before they meet face to face, she hears that he usually runs around with Nova, but Nova also rarely goes to the cafeteria…nor is he and Cupid on the rooftop at all. It's like they part way from all the other students on purpose…
"You don't usually go to the cafeteria on breaktime, do you, Cupid?" Yunne asked with a gentle voice. She was scared that she might accidentally make Cupid uncomfortable about it…
"I don't like crowded places."
"Oh…I understand." Yunne doesn't like crowded places much, but the cafeteria is an unavoidable case…
"Also, there someone keeps feeding me with melon milk even if I ask them not to, so I don't even need the effort to get anything from here…" he whispered in a low voice, and Yunne, lost in the train of thought, wasn't able to hear what Cupid was whispering about.
"Yes?"
"No, it's nothing."
When they get to the cafeteria, another familiar face pops up.
"Oh! Cupid!"
"Uh…" as Cupid slightly bit his teeth together, that face made a big smile, standing at the door of the cafeteria area.
"And…you are…?"
Cupid rolled his eyes as how Heos tried to play dumb in front of Yunne, you already know her…but never mind, not my business anyway…
"I'm Yunne, from class B-2."
"Ah! Section B!" Heos nodded his head up and down: "Not so far away from our class, right, Cupid?"
What is "our class" here? It's my and your class. As Cupid was a bit piss off, he didn't give Heos an answer and just looked at the crowded cafeteria.
Heos tries to swallow his tongue and move over to a different topic, knowing so well that Cupid was calling him out for his fake act. "Do you want melon milk as always?"
"No thanks, I was just…got invited here by Yunne."
"Ah, sorry!" Yunne got a little panicked. "It's my fault…do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"It's fine, do you want to buy anything?"
"Uh…" Yunne thinks for a bit: "I wanna try their new egg sandwich…so…"
"Then let me buy it for you, one for you too? Heos?"
"Huh? Yeah…sure…" Heos nodded in surprise. What is this?! This guy acts so gently it feels weird…so weird!!!
He can hear Cupid's voice way softer than the one he used to speak with Heos daily…Clearly, there's a difference in treating him and Yunne!?
But he once again swallowed that raw thought back into his throat, wait…it was me who pisses him off to begin with…
"I'll be back," Cupid said, then walked right into the noisy, crowded room like a warrior. Heos does this a million times every breaktime, but he feels amazed by how this guy is still so emotionless heading into the battle like it was nothing.
"Yunne! I'm sorry for…" He was about to mention the time when he and Cupid went to meet her at the back of the cafeteria, but immediately shut his own mouth; he kept forgetting that Yunne hadn't seen who that person was with Cupid that day. This was the actual time they met face to face…
"Yes? Is there something wrong?" Yunne seemed worried for him
"No, nothing at all! No big matter! I was just…" Uhm…this is hard…both of them like Nova, right? Does that make them… enemies? "It seems quite crowded today…"
"Yes…The sandwich egg seems to be well-selling…I hope Cupid is alright in there…"
"Yeah, even if most of the members of the A section aren't here…"
"Heos?…your name is Heos, right?" Yunne carefully asks before continuing: "You do notice that most of the class below in section A don't…you know, go to the cafeteria much?"
"Ah…right…sorry…"
"No, no, it's alright! Nothing to be sorry about. Since both you and Cupid are below in section A, you two mostly hang out around there more, so you're familiar with that area more than out here, right? So no worry."
Her way of talking…so soft…"Ahaha, yeah, it's been three days into the gift test now, the class is empty as hell!"
"Oh, I do hear it from my friend, all the A-1 and A-2 students left at school now study together in one class, right?"
"Yeah, yeah." Heos nods. He doesn't used to such soft-talking opponents like this…"You got a friend there?"
"Uh? From class A? Yes, I do!"
"Oh? Who is it? I might know who they are! What's their name?"
"Well…it…Rose…" she saw a bit hesitated when Heos asked, because everyone knew Rose, not just because she's a gifted student from class A-1…but because she is…
"No way?! You friend with the school council vice president…?!"
"Yes…I do…" Yunne feels a bit shy; this feels like showing off her gold medal to someone, but it's not in a 'My best friend is the school council vice president' way, but a 'See how good my friend is, she is a wonderful and awesome person and so talented that she became the school vice president!' way: "I know her back when we were just little kid, she is adorable…" Yunne didn't clarify that she was adorable back then because even now she's still quite adorable…!
"A…adorable…hahaha…" Heos never knew he would hear someone calling the vice-tyrant a-like-president as 'adorable'...but he guessed if he lived long enough…anything can happen…
"She also takes the gift test, too, so I feel a bit lonely walking home alone these days…" Yunne said with a disappointed face. She thinks Cupid also feel abit lonely now that Nova is also absent from school for a few days.
As they were having a chat, Cupid slowly walked out of the crowd with two sandwiches and a pink milk carton in his hand.
"Here you go."
"Thank you, Cupid."
"Thank!"
They both take their hot eggs sandwish from Cupid's hand and start to take a bite as they find a bench near the yard next to the cafeteria to rest and have their meal.
Cupid sits in between while Yunne and Heos are on the two different sides of the bench.
"Oh, you drink something else this time?" Heos asked when he saw Cupid put his straw into his pink milk carton, which looked like it had strawberry flavor milk.
"Yeh, I wanna try the strawberry one. It's from the same brand as the melon one." Cupid said, looking at something far away.
"They also have banana and coffee banana flavor too. I saw it at the market near my house." Yunne excitedly said to Cupid as she almost finished her sandwich.
"Coffee banana…milk coffee flavor???" Heos shocks a little; it doesn't make sense at all!
"Well, they do have lots of weird flavors these day aren't they…" Yunne nods her head in agreement. "I even saw that they sell grapefruit juice with coconut flavor soda…or something like that, I hope I didn't remember it wrong…"
Cupid, lowering his milk carton down from his mouth: "It does exist, actually. My mom was curious, so she bought some back home."
"It does exist??? How does it taste?! Did you try it?" Heos looks at Cupid with those big eyes, like begging Cupid to tell him about the taste.
"It's…weird…" Cupid said, then continued to drink his strawberry milk flavor.
"What? That it?!" Heos move closer to Cupid's side: "Come on! Give me some description or something, I wanna know!"
Cupid frowned as he slowly moved himself to the other side: "I don't remember much…can you not…"
"Please Cupid! Can you let me…" As Heos moves even closer, he accidentally hits Cupid's hand, making his strawberry milk carton fly to the ground in the next second.
"U…uh…." Heos slowly turns his head to look at the milk carton lying on the ground and turns his head to look back at Cupid.
Cupid, who he can not see his face because he was looking down at the milk carton, didn't speak a word. But the fear start growning inside of Heos heart and mind as he slowly backs off from Cupid and stands up from the bench.
Yunne looks down at the milk carton at the same time as Heos, oh dear…she looks back at Cupid a second later and already sees that both Cupid and Heos have stood up from the bench.
"Cupid…I'm sorry…" Heos softly said: "I didn't mean to…" Step by step, he tries to gauge the distance between them. Something inside of him tells him to run away like a monster is about to catch and kill him right at the spot if he keep stading here…
And Heos was not wrong for that. The next moment, he saw Cupid approaching him with the limited speed of a motobike on the highway.
'Holy shit, I'm so dead!' Heos turned around and started running for his dear life, because he knew that once Cupid caught him, he wouldn't be anything but a soulless courpe!
