Chapter 34 - I'm never alone

Moscow, Russia

CniDaria-21

"I'm never alone"

I'm always cold nowadays. It's not where I am but my state of mind I would say. The weather is warm as can be but it's the feeling I have in me. My mind feels cloudy and my body robotic. It's been 6 months since the attempt on our lives in Tokyo and my reconnaissance in Versailles. Since then, Ty and I have been more aggressive in the way we want the world to be. Before the incident, Ty was of the mindset that we should let the world solve itself. We had done enough to shake up the status quo. We should let it run its course. I was getting impatient with that approach and based on my actions I forced the other side's hand. After the attempt on my life, we knew that the major superpowers weren't going to let it play out the way we envisioned. They were going to fight to stay on top, fight to survive. So instead of playing the cat and mouse game from now on, we decided to wipe the board clean. No more 'Big Boys', everyone was to be on equal footing. That, however, required so much more work. It wasn't a matter of just assassination of leaders anymore, now espionage and information warfare was pushed to the forefront of priorities. Government secrets had to be revealed, assets had to be destroyed, and advantages had to be turned into weaknesses.

My life has never been in as much danger as it was in Tokyo. I was so close to death; I could see the light calling me. The only thing that kept me from crossing over was the love I had for my brother; not wanting to leave him alone, the hate, the anger I had for this fucked up world, and the regret of my actions for even causing the situation. I was feeling an assortment of emotions at the moment but hate and constantly pushed forward. How dare I even get myself in that! How dare they put me and my family through so much pain! How dare they try to kill me! No one gets to decide when and where I die. I am no benevolent God. I am the Grim Reaper. All that I deem evil and unfit for this new world we are building will now disappear. The reason I struggled on this path before was because it wasn't my own. It wasn't my own ideas. Now, more than ever I trust in my brother, and I know this is what I was put on this earth for. To create chaos and cleanse the world.

Nala went back to Britain a day after the shooting. Ty lied and told her I had been put in the hospital after she went back, she insisted on visiting me, but Ty refused. He made it clear that it was for her safety, but I knew he just wanted to protect our secret. According to Ty and the information I gathered in France, it was the old company that came after us like we expected, however it was the governments that spurred them into action. The company only moves for profit, so they are not the immediate threat. We never figured out where they were centrally located so going after them without any solid information would be wasteful. However, they know who we are, our faces, and they've guessed our goal. That makes them dangerous and an obstacle to our vision. To obtain information about the employees we had to get it from the employers. This will not happen again. You can't eat if you take away the food.

I wandered the streets of Moscow trying to look like an aloof tourist as much as possible, but I don't think I was making much progress. The color of my skin didn't allow me to avoid eyes. There was a stereotype that in Russia there was always an eternal blizzard raging throughout the country. Making it seem like a dark, rough, and barren ice fortress that was inaccessible to outsiders. Napoleon and Hitler, many conquerors tried to take the tundra but all have failed due to Russia's harsh climate. What I was experiencing now went totally against that stereotype. Summer in Moscow was beautiful filled with flowers and berries growing from the vegetation and an ideal temperature. The streets were lively with plenty children enjoying themselves while they were on break from school. The mood wasn't solemn, it was joyous and lively. The way the western hemisphere saw Communist countries was as a very unhappy place. This was far from it. The benefit of being a superpower and the one initiating wars is that there is still the feel of normalcy back home. Being an unsmiling and dark skinned woman alone in this country made me stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe it was a bad idea to come outside like this.

I started to head back to my hotel room when I noticed that I was being followed. To an amateur it wouldn't be noticeable, but my awareness has never been sharper. I've seen that same person throughout the day too much. I tried entering a store to see if she would still keep me in her eyesight. She didn't enter the store but sat on the bench reading like she was just enjoying the summer weather. Her eyes would dart upwards every few minutes but for the most part she was calm, cool, and collected. I took the chance to exit the store and take a seat next to her. Either she would out herself or act naturally. As I approached, she never looked up from her book and only reacted slightly when I sat. I guess she chose to act naturally. I took out my phone and started scrolling through the phone looking at local maps. I tried to look like I was struggling to find out where I was. The stalker acted like she didn't take much notice. I took a glance at the matching modified smart watches me and my brother decided to wear. It was about 10 am here. I needed some type of lead by nightfall. So, I decided to initiate conversation.

"Umm excuse me?" she finally dropped her book and gave me a quizzical look. "Do you speak English?" More of the same quizzical looks. I knew she understood what I was saying but I decided to play along. I started motioning at my phone. She finally leaned over to take a look at my screen. I quickly put my arm around her let the knife I was hiding in my sleeve, slip out and pushed it up against her neck. Luckily her long blond hair covered the knife from view and she looked like she was only harmlessly looking at my phone.

"Ok let's cut the bullshit, scream or make any other sudden movements and I'll end your life right here." There was no struggle and no heavy breathing. She was obviously still calm and cool. She was definitely trained by an agency.

"What do you want, what are you doing here?" her voice was calm and cold. More soldier like than anything. You could tell that she has been through her shares of bloody battles.

"Oh? So we do speak English that makes things much easier, judging by your accent I would have to guess KGB. What I want is simple, access to your headquarters, your superiors, and your intelligent network." There was a pause. She burst out laughing. She was really having a good laugh to. To be honest I couldn't blame her. What I was asking was ridiculous to just a measly field agent who was tasked with tailing a person of interest. Still laughing she finally responded.

"You are one greedy bitch, what makes you think I would have access to all of that? Let alone, that I would ever betray Mother Russia. I would rather die. Piss off you filthy nigger." More or less the answer I expected. I looked at my phone and saw the screen had a weird magnetic reaction to her hands that were near it. I smiled a little.

"Well I thought as much, I guess I just wanted to give you the chance to walk away from this alive. I mean I don't really need you. I already know the access I need is implanted into your wrist." Her breathing finally changed and I could feel her finally fidget a little. My smile widens. "Thank you for the confirmation."

"Wai-" her throat was slit and her body sagged forward with her long blonde hair hiding the blood staining her collar. I dug my knife into both of her wrist and took out chips that were within. I fixed her body where her bloody hands were in her pocket and her bloody wounds wouldn't be discovered unless she was disturbed. Her clothes were soaking up the blood so there should be a bit of time before panic finds this area. By then I'll be long gone from here. I made myself scarce.
