A few months had passed in relative silence.
Liam had ensured that he stayed out of unnecessary entanglements, carefully moving through the shadows while keeping a keen eye on those who stirred trouble. He had no interest in involving himself in conflicts that didn't directly concern him, but he was far from ignorant.
He had his own way of keeping tabs on the shifting tides of the jujutsu world.
And right now, the person responsible for gathering and feeding him information was none other than Mei Mei.
Dressed in her usual scandalously revealing attire, the silver-haired beauty stood by the window of his study, flipping through her latest report with a calm, almost lazy elegance. The fabric of her outfit clung to every tantalizing curve, accentuating her toned legs, her impossibly small waist, and the way her full chest rose and fell with each unhurried breath.
The afternoon sunlight poured through the glass, draping her in golden hues, and casting a warm glow over her smooth, flawless skin. It illuminated the silky strands of her long silver hair, which cascaded down her back like liquid moonlight, a few stray locks teasing the curve of her bare shoulders.
The high slit of her skirt barely covered the sinful length of her legs, and with each shift of her weight, the fabric threatened to reveal more—an invitation or a tease, only Mei Mei knew.
She looked like a masterpiece—an artist's most sensual creation, sculpted with the kind of beauty that made men weak. But Liam knew better. Mei Mei was no delicate flower to be admired from a distance.
Beneath that lazy smirk and sultry confidence lay a woman who was as sharp as she was alluring, as dangerous as she was divine.
And right now, she had his full attention.
"You know," Mei Mei mused, her sultry voice filling the space, "if I didn't know better, I'd say you were actually trying to live a peaceful life."
Liam, seated behind his desk, raised an eyebrow as he sipped his tea. "Peaceful? Hardly. I just know when to move and when to watch."
Mei Mei chuckled, setting the report down. "Then you'll be happy to hear that our favorite brat, Yuji, is doing just fine. He's in his last year of middle school, no signs of trouble. Yet."
Liam hummed, setting his cup down. "That's good. No reason for me to interfere with his life."
Mei Mei nodded before her expression turned slightly serious. "However, Kaori is another story."
Liam's expression darkened slightly. "Still missing?"
Mei Mei sighed, taking a seat on the edge of his desk, and crossing her long legs. "Not a single trace. Whoever she went, or whatever happened to her, she had covered her tracks well. My crows have been searching, but no results. It's almost as if she vanished into thin air."
Liam clicked his tongue, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the wooden desk. "That's troublesome. She's too important to just disappear like that."
Mei Mei smirked. "You worried about her?"
Liam shrugged. "She's an important chess piece. And I don't like losing such assets."
Mei Mei chuckled softly. "Spoken like a true businessman."
She flipped to another page of her report and her smirk widened slightly. "As for our dear friend Geto… well, he's been busy."
Liam leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. "How bad is it?"
Mei Mei's blue eyes gleamed. "He's gathered a lot of supporters. More than I initially expected. And according to my sources, he's preparing to make his move soon. If my guess is right, it won't be long before he declares war on Jujutsu Tech."
Liam ran a hand through his hair, exhaling deeply. "Tch. So it's finally happening."
Mei Mei nodded. "Mhm. If your words are correct, I'd say the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons is just around the corner. Christmas Eve, to be exact."
Liam let out a slow, measured breath.
"One thousand cursed spirits unleashed onto Kyoto and Shinjuku, causing mass chaos."
Mei Mei grinned. "Sounds fun, doesn't it?"
Liam chuckled darkly. "If I wasn't involved, maybe."
Mei Mei studied him for a moment before speaking again. "So? Are you going to stay out of it?"
Liam tapped his fingers against the desk. "I planned to. If Geto wants to throw his life away, that's his problem. But…"
His eyes flickered toward Mei Mei, and his tone turned amused. "Since my woman is already tangled in this mess, I can't just sit back and let her handle it alone, now can I?"
Mei Mei giggled, walking around his desk with slow, deliberate steps, her hips swaying in a way that was nothing short of seductive. "My, my. How chivalrous of you."
Liam smirked. "I'd say it's more about responsibility than chivalry."
She came to a stop behind him, leaning down until her lips were near his ear, her breath warm against his skin. "Either way, I appreciate the sentiment."
Liam exhaled through his nose, shaking his head. "This is going to be a headache."
Mei Mei placed her hands on his shoulders, massaging them lightly. "Then why don't we take your mind off it?"
Liam raised an eyebrow. "And how do you plan to do that?"
Mei Mei grinned and spun his chair around, straddling his lap without hesitation. The scent of her perfume—sweet yet slightly musky—filled his senses as she settled herself against him. "By changing the subject, of course."
Liam smirked, his hands naturally finding their place on her waist. "Go on, then."
Mei Mei tapped a finger against his chest. "I heard Yuki came to see you."
Liam smirked. "She did."
Mei Mei leaned in closer, her blue eyes twinkling with amusement. "So? What do you think of her?"
Liam chuckled, gripping her waist a little tighter. "She's interesting, I'll give her that."
Mei Mei hummed, tilting her head. "And between us… which one do you like more?"
Liam raised an eyebrow. "Trying to start a fight?"
Mei Mei laughed softly. "Just curious."
Liam smirked before bringing his hand down onto her ass with a sharp slap. "At least for now, you're in my arms."
Smack~!
Mei Mei gasped lightly, though her smirk remained. "Oh? Does that mean I'm winning?"
Liam leaned in until his lips were inches from hers. "It means you're mine."
Mei Mei chuckled before pressing herself against him, capturing his lips in a slow, heated kiss.
Liam loved this about her. She wasn't shy—she was bold, confident, and unafraid to take what she wanted.
Just like him.
As she pulled back, a satisfied smirk on her lips, she whispered, "Then you better take care of me, boss."
Liam chuckled. "Always."
The two shared a look filled with amusement, challenge, and something deeper—something hungry.
Outside, the city moved forward, oblivious to the storm brewing beneath the surface.
But Liam knew.
The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons was coming.
And whether he liked it or not…
He was going to be a part of it.
