Chapter 24 - Chapter 024

"Beast Skill – Lightning Dance!" Matthew's eyes flashed as he and Bee fused into a single stream of lightning and weaved past the barrage of attacks and struck the dragon's head with a bang.

"Matthew." Bryan called out, startling him and he turned a bit vexed. "What?"

"Do you have any move that is capable of bringing the dragon down? It doesn't matter the limitations." Bryan asked and Matthew shook his head

Bee had three skills. One, Lighting Teleportation – the ability to move to locations that he had marked with lightning. Two, Lightning Dance – an ability that allowed for high-speed movement by fusing with Bee. And third, the only attack skill – Thunderclap which was basically an AoE attack.

In terms of combat efficiency, he was more than okay. But not so good in controlling the enemy.

"No." He replied and Bryan sighed and disappeared.

….

"Marcus, do you have any skills that can bring the dragon to the ground?" Bryan dodged a fire bolt as he just barely kept up with Kaz and Marcus as they zipped around the dragon.

"…."

"…I'm going to take that as a no." Bryan sighed and moved to his next target.

….

"Leila, do you have any… you know what? Never mind." Bryan had barely begun speaking and his target was already on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

'What is it with these people? I thought I was used to handling weirdos but this is beyond me.' Bryan kept a polite smile as he ranted inwardly.

"Bringing the dragon to the ground? I may be able to do something about that." Like the voice of an angel. That was what Charlotte sounded like.

"It may cost- sorry about that. Where do you want me to put it?" Charlotte interrupted herself and asked and Bryan pointed at the only clear location on the map.

A kilometer-wide piece of land that had minimum grass and trees. The earth was also free from most things that might obstruct its manipulation.

"I see. But this skill takes a while to charge and I can't be disturbed while its being used." Charlotte warned but Bryan was already prepared for downsides like that.

"Thanks." Bryan nodded and expressed his gratitude. He then kicked off against one of the metal plates that Charlotte used and headed towards his last target – Lucy.

"Lucy, can you stall that for as long as possible? Then sink it in the mud or something as soon as it comes down." He didn't wait for her reply and vanished as abruptly as he appeared.

"…okay." Lucy looked at the place where Bryan was and whispered. It was the roar that Ragna made that finally made her come back to her senses and she raised a shield of earth before strengthening her body.

….

"Lucky Time." Lucky time was a skill that was very hard to control. Besides knowing how to activate it, he barely knew anything apart from its effects.

'But nobody said that you could only activate a skill once.' An ether-based skill required control from the beast and the tamer to function. But since Lucky Time was a passive skill, he could ignore that, and activate the skill again.

But Bryan's goal was not simply the stacking of the skill. It was to control the output of Lucky Time to bring about a shot at victory. All he need was a bit of luck.

As he dashed through the air, he felt it. An ethereal flow of energy outside what he knew. He reached out to grasp it with his mind and after a few attempts, he succeeded.

'Is this really luck?' he had heard stories of luck taking on fictional form in his previous world but this was the first time he had seen anything like this. Even in this fictional world had little detail on concepts like that.

With every movement he made, he could feel the strand of energy pulse as tiny parts of it diffused into the air. 'I guess that is how it exhausts its energy,' he thought.

He had already overcome the hurdle of locating the energy. The hard part was controlling that energy to achieve his goals. And he had a vague plan in mind. If prayers count.

'Please, let the dragon fall from the sky. Pretty please?' Bryan repeated over and over as he prayed to Tyche, Fortuna, Fu Xing, and Ganesha, ignoring the voice that doubted whether their powers extended to another worlds.

But it seemed the heavens heard his prayers and the dragon that was assaulting his teammates suddenly paused as lights of ether flickered around its body

"GAHHHH!" The dragon let out a cry of pain as it froze in the air. The people who were currently attacking it were confused but their body moved faster than their mind and the intensity of their attacks increased.

Little by little, the dragon fell to the ground. Just as everyone was about to let out a sigh of relief, the dragon roared and its body swelled in size. With a loud thump, a wave of power swept across the area with its body as the center.

'I wonder what just happened.' even though he was the one to make the wish that the dragon will fall, he didn't understand the reason why it faltered.

'But I should have bought enough time with that.' After all, the main objective was buying time.

"I'm ready!" Charlotte yelled as a layer of dense metallic ether surrounded her. Just from looking at it, Bryan felt his body sink into the ground as if he was being pressed.

"Retreat!" Bryan yelled and leaped back. In the blink of an eye, several shadows caught up with him and the dragon was left alone.

"Skill - Making Money!" and with words that sounded like something from an advert, Charlotte activated her skill.

In the air above the dragon, the world darkened as metallic particles rushed forward and condensed into a gigantic coin. Like a meteor, it slammed into the dragon.

"GRAHHHH!" The dragon yelled as it flapped its wings even harder to escape from the coin but the metallic energy had already filled its body. Even moving a single muscle required a hearculean effort.

"Fall." Charlotte clenched her fist and the coin pressed cleanly into the earth with the creature underneath it.
