(Chris's PoV)
I woke up earlier than usual to prepare some food for the road ahead. Though Jay is an excellent cook, the chances of finding a hideout where we can cook leisurely are very low. So, it's best to be prepared. Moreover, during daytime, we won't be stopping to cook.
The rations that we prepared beforehand would be all that we would have to eat during the rest time between hunts, during the day. Stopping during the daytime to cook would be dangerous and a waste of time.
First, we need to find a safe place to cook, as cooking could attract beasts to their area, which could be dangerous. So, it is usual not to consider cooking at all during hunting trips. Most would solely depend on the rations that they brought with them to the hunt, nothing more.
The only reason why we were able to eat cooked food for dinner at night and breakfast in the mornings was that we found an isolated cave, which was very safe. That was then, but that may not be the case now or in the future.
