Chapter 24 - The quest at the village

Henry who has now accepted on the quest to take care of the monsters that torment the villagers, has arrived at the house of the village head. The house was crowded with adventures from the nearby guild house as well as a group of soldiers who stood seperate from the adventures, they wore the crest of the two barons that rule the lands that surround the village. The village was not wealthy but the reward for the subjugation was more than anything what one would think.

The door of the village head's opened, the group turned their attention towards the door. there stood a old man with white hair till the floor with a bent stature holding a staff on his hand. He was assisted by a girl who was slender with dark black hair. The old elder cleared his throat. "Thank you for accepting this old man's request" , he started. He then explained about how their village has been run over by the animals that occasionally pour out of the forest. The reason for the outburst was unknown. The old man went back into his house, leaving behind his granddaughter to coordinate the many adventures. The soldiers followed their lieutenant and left for the forest. The young lady introduced herself as 'G-ole' ,the grand-daughter of the village head and the branch leader of a merchant group that conducts business between the Dan kingdom and the elven kingdom. She then instructed the adventures to form a team. Many of the adventures were there as a team and it is also practised to form teams. The few who didn't have a team were grouped together. Henry who was a known loner, ended up in the team of five. The team members were all known by many, their fighting skills, though not much but still bested with fighting monsters. To not intrude in each others hunt they decided to head in different paths and thus the party of five was dismissed. Henry was back to being a loner.

"Whatever" . Henry ventured into the woods. He was met with a group of boars which charged towards him. He dodged to the side. The one boar that rushed at him, struck the tree behind him. The tree fell. Henry raised his sword and struck the boar down. The other boars that followed to rush at him, soon fell to Henry's sword. He sighed, saying "They are too weak". He then ventured deep into the forest. He was almost at the border where the blessed forest of the elves were said to start. Again he was met with a boar. "What? Does this forest only has boars" The boar in front of him was bigger than the previous ones he defeated. Again it rushed at him. He dodged it. The boar struck the tree. "What a dejavu" But the tree didn't fall. Rather it was the boar that fell with it's head pouring out blood. "What was that?". Henry was confused with what he saw. He went closer to inspect the tree. The tree seemed to have life. A mysterious force flowed through it.

Henry who was awed at it was soon distracted when the bush behind him shook. He got ready for an attack, hoping it was not an another boar. He moved closer. He pushed apart the bush. What he saw was a visk, the creature that burrows. It was an endangered species that only lives in the great forest. The visk on seeing Henry, ran away into the forest. He followed it, trying to catch it. These creatures, who are less in number, sell at a high price at the black market. Who would leave such a good oppourtunity. The visk then went into a hole, thinking it can escape from Henry's sight. But Henry had thermal detection, He followed the visk, as it tried it's best to escape. Then Henry poked the ground. The ground cracked and the visk was made to resurface, where it got captured by Henry.

As he was about to put the visk away in a bag, Another bush behind him shook. With a wild smile Henry approached it. But to his despair, it was not a visk, but rather a small girl with torn out clothes who's legs were bleeding, maybe due to long walking. The girl was unconsious, which was proved by Henry's stick poking. "Wait, is she dead" He went closer to check for any vitality. The girl made a sound of discomfort. "Okay, she's alive". Henry was relaxed after realising that the girl was alive. Now, Henry got NOT relaxed, as he thought about what to do with this situation.

After a long thought, He decided to leave some food near her and turned away to leave the area. As he was about to leave, a faint voice of the girl rose, "Help..". Henry who felt right when leaving her soon felt it as wrong. So he lit up a camp fire near the village and fixed up a tent for the girl. He didn't dare to take the girl into the village as it would result in a lot of questioning from authorities. He decided to take care of the girl until she recovers. And thus the quest has come into a momentary halt.
