Chapter 11 - Chapter-10: The kingdom will rise again

At the Kingdom of War

The Commander was gathering details about the kingdom's problems and issues.

There were four main problems:

1. Food and water

2. Lack of daily supplies and items

3. Lack of modern technology

4. And last but not least — a weak army

The Commander said to one of his living soldiers,

"Go, bring the architect here. We need to build farmland."

The soldier nodded and left to get the architect.

Then one of the Commander's undead soldiers spoke,

"Commander, are you planning to build a dam like you wanted to back then?"

The Commander gave a silent nod.

The undead soldier smiled slightly.

"You really haven't changed, even after all these years."

The Commander, with an authoritative voice, replied,

"I am the ruler of this kingdom. And as ruler, it's my responsibility to build a nation every citizen can be proud of."

The undead soldier bowed respectfully and disappeared into the Commander's sword.

Moments later, the living soldier returned with the architect.

The architect kneeled and spoke respectfully,

"May I know why you requested me, Commander?"

With a calm tone, the Commander said,

"We're going to build a dam."

The architect was a little shocked. Building a dam was risky — no one in the kingdom truly knew how to construct one properly. But he believed in the Commander's ability. He had heard the stories about the Commander's wisdom and leadership.

"Understood, Commander. I'll prepare the builders," he said. "But the problem is… we don't really know how to make it properly."

The Commander, still calm, replied,

"I know how to make it. Here's the plan."

---

Dam Blueprint

Phase 1: River Diversion

Build a temporary canal to divert the river's flow, then construct coffer dams to dry the main construction area.

Phase 2: Foundation

Dig until solid rock is reached. Lay the first stone layer with precision and balanced weight distribution.

Phase 3: Wall Construction

Raise the wall layer by layer, checking each for cracks or misalignment. Build drainage tunnels to reduce pressure behind the wall, and ensure regular inspections by workers.

Phase 4: Final Touches

Install spillways for flood overflow and construct roads leading to both sides for trade and maintenance.

---

The architect was deeply impressed by the Commander's detailed and flawless plan.

Then the Commander spoke again,

"Remember to take precautions. Landslides, material shortages, and flash floods might occur."

The architect nodded and bowed before leaving.

After a while, the undead soldier appeared again and asked,

"Commander, what will you do with the dam? Our kingdom already has a good water supply."

The Commander replied calmly,

"The reason we still need a dam is because of several factors.

First, even if there's enough water during the rainy season, too much of it can destroy farmlands, homes, and roads. The dam will help us control how much water is released into our lands.

Second, in case of drought, the dam will serve as a backup water source.

Third, with precise control over water, we can distribute it to the fields whenever needed instead of waiting for rain. This will increase crop yields and ensure food security for future wars.

Fourth, the dam can provide energy for future development, create jobs, and boost the local economy.

Fifth, once we establish the reservoir, new towns, fisheries, and trade routes can develop around it, attracting settlers and merchants."

He paused, then concluded,

"In short, the dam will solve three of our problems at once —

Food and water, because we'll have full control over irrigation.

Lack of items, because merchants will bring new goods and supplies.

And modern technology, because the energy from the dam will help us advance production and research."

Hearing all this, the undead soldier smiled. Seeing the Commander's wisdom reminded him of the days when they were both alive — the days when the Commander ruled the kingdom with unmatched brilliance.

He bowed respectfully once more and vanished into the Commander's sword.

Now alone, the Commander looked out over the ruined kingdom and thought to himself,

"When will the God of Darkness arrive…? I'll be waiting for our savior."
