Chapter 15 - The Stars are Calling.

Author Notes 1

Hi guys, I really had fun writing this chapter.

I was having a blast yesterday while working on this chapter, reading "Greatest Estate Developer." Its the funniest manwha I ever read.

Loyd is peak.

Its in its final arc, so Im looking forward to seeing the final.

Now that Im editing this chapter, I see in my youtube recommendations a fan project animation called "Dust Queen | Chapter 1 - Growing Pains."

It was so good, early RWBY vibes. If you are a RWBY fan, I recommend you go and watch it.

Things we will be talking about in the Author Notes 2 at the end of the chapter:

- MC theme song.

- Cant say it now because its a spoiler haha, go and read this chapter first.

-Why I dont make gooner bait with the fic + detailed explanation of what I mean.

- MC appearance/looks.

-------------------------

-Third Person POV-

Samuel appears in the middle of the battlefield, surprising everyone.

Glaring daggers at Kokabiel, who was looking at him with wide eyes, asking who was this newcomer.

Unable to explain or understand the unpleasant feeling of impending doom running down his back in a cold shiver.

Silence fills the entire place.

"Lancaster!" Kiba said with hope, breaking the silence.

"Lancaster, you are late!" Issei follows, hopeful and with a bit of anger.

Everyone dark mood lit up a bit after Samuel appeared.

'Actually, this is my perfect time.' Samuel thought, amused in his mind.

'All the gang plus Xenovia, but where is Gasper?...Don't tell me he is doomscrolling in his room haha, shame. If he was really here, maybe they would have a chance against Kokabiel.' Samuel concludes.

Samuel looked again at Kokabiel, who was quiet.

"So what?" Samuel asked Kokabiel.

"What if God is dead? It changes something for humanity?" Samuel challenged.

"Who are you..." Kokabiel said slowly.

"Are we supposed to feel hopeless? To feel despair?" Samuel said while walking to Freed, who was unconscious lying on the floor.

Kokabiel was silent, trying to gauge Samuel and his intentions.

'An exorcist sent by the church?' Kokabiel thought that possibility in his mind.

"It's a shame he died, but doesnt really matter for humanity at this point." Samuel continued and pulled out the Dragonslayer spear in public for the first time.

"We always strive against impossible odds, sometimes for better or not." he continued.

"Even if he is dead, we will always remember his teachings. Always following the right path." His voice became ethereal while he stabbed down Freed Sellzen in the heart.

After that, a controlled sphere of lightning guided by the tip of the spear engulfed the rest of the body...making it only ashes.

Everyone was surprised at this.

Kokabiel was sweating, and his legs were shaking a bit after he heard the tone change and the ruthless display.

But he quickly calmed himself, he was old and experienced.

But Samuel is not like the others he was toying with before.

"He died not only for Heaven but for us too, his children. Same with Jesus. Even two thousand years later, we still remember him." Samuel said, not even bothered after killing Freed.

"What they do in life will echoes for eternity." A golden light enveloped him.

"YOU CAN KILL THE MAN BUT NOT THE IDEA." Samuel said with fierce resolution.

His words gave consolation to the two believers and even the devils there.

For the first time, the Dragon Slayer Armor of Ornstein manifested in all of its golden glory for other people to see.

Samuel was a natural aura farmer.

For a second, Rias and Sona thought Samuel Sacred Gear was Regulus Nemea, but they quickly discarded that idea for obvious reasons.

The rest were in awe at the display.

Even Ddraig, who felt the inexplicable chills deep inside his being...he just stared at The Golden Lion in front of him. He knew exactly what he was in his subconscious. A Dragon Slayer.

Kokabiel widened his eyes and was ready to attack him.

But in an explosion of velocity, Samuel grabbed Kokabiel by the jaw, lifting him easily.

*Crush*

Crushing his jaw by sheer brute force.

"GAAAH!" The fallen angel let out a stifled cry of pain.

Kokabiel grabbed his hand, trying to escape with no avail.

A light spear was forming in his hands to attack Samuel...

Only to be pierced in the stomach and lifted even more by his spear.

By Kokabiel face, the pain was insufferable.

'Ultimate Class are really more durable.' Samuel thought while grabbing Kokabiel by the head and burying him in the floor.

*Crack*

A crater formed under him after the brute force display.

Funny thing. Samuel was neither using magic nor senjutsu to empower himself even more.

Kokabiel face was a bloody mess.

"Even if you dont deserve it, I will give you a fast death. Im not a torturer." Samuel cold voice was heard in everyone ears.

And then...it happened.

Every devil who was watching widened their eyes, and they began to feel an uncomfortable itching on their bodies at the thing Samuel pulled out of nowhere.

The Rod of Arafel.

'Time to go big.' Samuel said in his mind while he pulled it out in the air.

Kokabiel, overwhelmed by brute force and pain, couldnt do anything.

This was not a fight. It was an execution.

"Be purged by divine light, scum." And with that, putting a considerable amount of power in the Rod, Samuel aimed at Kokabiel.

A flash of brilliant golden light enveloped everything and easily destroyed the barrier of Sona and her peerage.

The golden light went high in the sky, lighting up the dark night in beautiful golden.

"RAAAAAAAAAAGH!" Golden fire was burning Kokabiel violently.

Samuel just stared at the fallen being purged, even interested in how his wings were becoming white in the last moments of his life.

Kokabiel just kept screaming in agony...after a couple of seconds, he stopped and started to cry.

This surprised everyone. Including Samuel.

"*Snif* Im sorry." the fallen said for the last time while his body fell lifeless to the floor, while the golden fire kept consuming the rest of his body.

And with that, the Angel of Stars died.

'Redemption at the end, maybe?' Samuel thought, interested, starting to make guesses.

But his attention quickly shifted to the sky.

His eyes widened.

Under the golden night created by him...

'...This!'

He kept looking in awe at the starry golden night sky, knowing exactly what was happening.

The stars are calling.

-------------------------

-Third Person Pov-

'I knew it!' Samuel thought.

'Feats can allow an apotheosis!' He cheers in his mind.

'...but I cant do the jump now. If I ascend, I will be another mediocre god just like them. I know its not enough divinity. I need to be better. I need a divinity as strong as the one Great Red has, or even higher.' he concludes.

'The grind never ends...'

He cant allow himself to become a low tier god.

But as someone once said...

Humans were born to inherit the stars.

And The King of Stars is in his conception.

Just as Samuel was having intrusive thoughts about killing a certain puny god next...

Four strong presences arrive.

Sirzechs, Serafall, Azazel, and Vali.

'This is new.' he thinks, looking at the four.

Sirzechs and Serafall, as bonafide siscons, go quickly to their respective sisters to check on them.

Azazel stands close to them, eyeing curiously the golden man.

Vali full attention is on Samuel.

It's obvious what the descendant of Lucifer is thinking.

After they have a short talk with their sisters, the four come to Samuel, who was still looking at the sky.

"Lancaster?" Sirzechs asks.

"Yeah, its me."

Seeing him like this was a totally different feeling.

Powerful and royal.

The Golden Lion of Lancaster.

"For a moment, I thought you had Regulus Nemea." Serafall said while she leans in, eyeing him closely.

"My family armor." Samuel throws a well fabricated lie.

His family crest is three golden lions, so the lie fits like a glove.

Nobody can prove otherwise.

Azazel and Vali stay silent, watching carefully the exchange.

"Thanks for saving my sister, Lancaster. From the bottom of my heart, thank you." Sirzechs bows.

"Thank you. You're one of my top favorites for saving my Sona-tan." Serafall bows too.

This surprises Samuel a little.

'Heh, siscons.'

"No problem. Wasnt expecting to encounter some scum who wanted to restart the war, but meh, I dealt with it."

"Hahaha." Azazel interrupts while clapping.

Samuel looks for the first time at the leader of the Grigori.

Tall, black and blond hair, and the classic smile of a shameless bastard.

"Yo. Azazel, leader of the Grigori." he introduces himself.

"This is Vali Lucifer, the Vanishing Dragon." He signals Vali, who simply nods.

Samuel puts his golden eyes on Vali.

Golden stared at white.

"Samuel Lancaster." he introduces himself to them.

'Lancaster, huh. Been a long while since I heard that surname.' Azazel thought.

Albion, similar to Ddraig, feels the shiver in his being after seeing that man holding the spear.

Albion doest like it one bit, what he is feeling.

"We came here to retrieve Kokabiel. We kinda felt the light show that happened here." Azazel said, looking around trying to find him.

Thats why Sirzechs and Serafall were so desperate. After that beacon of light, they feared the worst.

"I killed him. You can find his ashes there," Samuel points at Kokabiel ashes.

Azazel just blinked, then looked at the pile of ash.

"Hoh..." Vali said slowly.

Samuel can feel the smile even when he is in his scale mail.

"I see... I cant blame you, but that was not really the right call," Azazel said.

"You are right. I should let him destroy the city and kill everyone so the war can restart again, right?" Samuel throws a sarcastic jab.

"..."

Sigh "Valper too?" Azazel asks while he shakes his head, looking at the body of Valper.

"Valper was killed by Kokabiel. The other pile of ashes is Freed Sellzen, another pawn of Kokabiel." Samuel explains without a care in the world.

"What happened with the Excaliburs?" Sirzechs asks.

"No idea. I came late. You should ask them." Samuel shrugs and signals back to Rias and Sona and their peerages.

A lie.

Of course, in the blinding light, he grabbed all the broken parts of the swords with his telekinetic powers and put them in his inventory.

He can fix it for himself, of course. Even if the Excalibur of this world is shit, he can work something decent later on. And you never know...

Asshole tax collected. You keep what you kill.

If the church is so fucking worthless in this regard, then the sword is better with him. Besides, nobody will ever know. And if they know...what? Nothing.

"You killed our people and even possible witnesses. You are gonna take responsibility?" Vali said with crossed arms.

Crystal clear he was looking for an excuse to fight, and Samuel quickly caught on.

Vali didnt believe a shit of what he was saying. He was just looking for an excuse.

'Heh, since when does Vali the battle junkie care about this crap? Dont make me laugh.' Samuel thought, amused.

"Who responsible for Kokabiel and Valper being here other than the lack of care of the Grigori? They were members of your faction. Like it or not, it's your guys fault." Samuel argues.

Both came closer, measuring each other.

Tension grew. Everyone was watching in silence to see what happened next.

Everyone was ready to stop the fight.

Azazel stepped in the middle and put his hand on Vali shoulder, pulling him away while letting out a sigh.

"Sigh... Enough, Vali. He is right," Azazel conceded.

"Hah, I don't really care at this point. Lets fi—" Vali was cut off.

"...Vali, dont fight this man." Albion said, surprising everyone.

"...What did you say?" Vali asked, a bit flabbergasted.

"You are not his match. I will not watch my best host die out of stupidity." Albion said in a no bullshit tone.

"You have to be fucking joking..." the emo albino said in disbelief.

"Enough. He is your perfect counter. You are not fighting him." Albion said with finality.

Albion, having immense experience, could tell...the holy light earlier and the man in front of him...

Vali is half devil, and he has a draconic sacred gear... its just game over before it even begins.

"TCH, I KNOW WE CAN! We use Juggernaut Drive and—"

"VALI LUCIFER!" Albion roared.

"..."

After two seconds of silence, Samuel decided to throw his two cents into the matter.

"Heh~ You were always the smarter of the two Celestial Dragons. That was the right call, Albion." Samuel, being his own shameless bastard, decided to add.

"..."

"DAMN BRAT." Ddraig roared in the distance from Issei gauntlet.

With his high senses, he could almost feel the blood boiling in Vali.

"Pffff, hahaha." Azazel was the first one to laugh.

Some let out a chuckle, while the more mature ones just smiled a bit.

"Albion." the Welsh Dragon said.

"Ddraig." the Vanishing Dragon responded.

"Guess this time we both have quite problematic hosts." Ddraig said.

"Indeed."

Everyone had a certain level of interest seeing the two Celestial Dragons talking. One reason they were famous is their legendary rivalry, after all.

"Your host is not quite ready, I can see." Albion said.

"No, but he will be. We will fight someday. We are destined to fight, after all."

"Oh my fucking god, just marry already, you both." Samuel said while rolling his eyes with an amused smile.

Nobody could believe what Lancaster just spit from his mouth.

Samuel just wanted to see the world burn at this point.

"INSOLENT FOOL X2." the two dragons roared at this cheeky young man.

"HAHAHA." Azazel lost it.

"Pfff." Serafall was at her limit.

Sirzechs just smiled and looked away. The others just widened their eyes at Lancaster.

If Vali was courting death, then what is Lancaster even doing at this point?

"Haha, well, it's time for me to go. Nice to meet you two." he said to Vali and Azazel.

Samuel exchanged some nods with the others and was ready to go. He had a lot to think about.

'...Not the type to hold a grudge?' Azazel was making a rough psychological profile in his mind about Samuel.

Contrary to Azazel belief, Samuel knew it was not Grigori fault...not on purpose.

"This is not over." Vali said to Samuel before he left.

"Whatever." Samuel didn't care one bit.

.

..

...

As Samuel walked away a little before teleporting...

One blue haired girl was having complex emotions about how things had turned out.

God died.

Her faith was torn to pieces.

The Church lied to her all her life. She felt betrayed.

Looking at the cheerful devils and their camaraderie made her desire a bit of the same.

But when she looked at the back of the man in golden armor...

His words from earlier gave her hope.

He came at the right moment and saved everyone.

Maybe he was the last light of hope in this world without God.

Author Notes 2

What a chapter, huh? Hope you liked it as much as I did.

Lets go with the first topic.

- MC theme song

After more than 50 tries of trying to make a song that I liked with the voice and style I had in mind...a miracle was born.

I made the song in Su no. com (I put spaces so Webnovel doesnt get mad). Some of you may recognize the page, it has a certain popularity.

Anyway, here is the song "King of Stars" (link in this comment. I will put it too in the generals comments).

- Xenovia as the love interest in this fanfic

Some of you will like it... others not so much. You know how it is, you cant please everyone.

I will explain why her.

She iss the one who has the most in common with Samuel.

Both ex-believers.

Both a bit edgy in the beginning (Samuel was a bit high in the first chapters, but quickly other assimilations calmed/corrected that small flaw of him lol. Gacha system is a crazy cheat haha).

A Xenovia edgy example would be her telling Asia that if she still believes in God, she should let herself be killed by her (lol).

Even she have a fringe dyed green giving those vibes.

Both have more similar cultures, Samuel is from England and Xenovia from Italy. I think this will play well in "bonding times" I mean, less cultural shock and of course... Italian jokes, hehehe.

Both like swords.

Xenovia is factionless right now and, well, here we are...

To be honest, as a reader I dont care about romance in fanfics, even less when its harem catch them all." Im the type that skips lemon parts.

As an author, I was thinking for a long time about making no romance for my fic... but nah, I changed my mind. I dont want to deprive my story of that.

Well guys, those are my reasons for her. Hope you understand.

- Why I dont make gooner bait with the fic + detailed explanation of what I mean

I see around in a lot of fics that have certain types of covers...basically whatever hot girl in a suggestive pose or light on clothes for the gooner bait. DxD fics are always like this haha, especially on this page.

Funny thing, I see this exact same thing in manga too (Romcom/Seinen) the heroine occupying the entire cover showing her big breasts or some shit like that, and the twink generic Kirito almost invisible in the back HAHAHA.

I find it funny and a bit sad. Thats why my cover is ORNSTEIN IN ALL OF HIS GLORY!

Jokes aside, I dont want my fic to be gooner bait. Yeah, I know it would probably attract more people, but nah. I could even have the MC do more "one night stands" with some DxD girls and in theory that doesnt count as a harem, and I could play in that grey line, pleasing both the no harem sect and the harem sect.

But no. I dont want my fic to be smut or be remembered like that.

One thing is certain. This fic will have ONE lemon later on, of course.

I always wanted to write at least one...you could say Ill lose my virginity as an author here on the page (?

Anyway, you can expect one.

- MC appearance/looks

I always said he was similar to the protagonist of "Standard Reincarnation" young face with royal rizz.

But I feel I was being a bit vague in that regard of explaining my MC looks.

Here he is, light and long brown hair, with golden eyes, and the royal rizz of the last member of the House of Lancaster.

Well, thats all for this chapter, guys.

See you in the next one i will keep cooking at my pace.
