Chapter 637 - Threatening Again

Tsunade wasn't going to give up so easily. If the Finance Department was off-limits, surely the Logistics Department was a reasonable request.

"Uh..."

The Third Hokage hesitated. He almost nodded before catching himself. The Logistics and Medical Departments were Koharu and Homura's strongholds. If Tsunade took over Logistics, they would both be furious.

Wait, no. Make that three people-Danzo, too.

"Tsunade, I don't understand why you're suddenly so interested in these matters, but I think you're rushing things. How about this: I'll place you in charge of the Medical Department for a while to help you get acclimated. What do you think?"

He needed to restore Koharu and Homura's power soon, or things could get messy if Tsunade started causing trouble. Danzo could wait a bit longer-he needed more time to cool off.

With Koharu and Homura out of the picture for now, the Third Hokage had no good reason to reject Tsunade's request entirely. Otherwise, dragging up the past would only reflect poorly on him.

"Fine, Sensei. You're so thoughtful. I'll stay in the Medical Department and just be a regular doctor, then."

Something about the way she said it felt off. The Third Hokage couldn't shake the feeling that Tsunade was plotting something.

Am I just overthinking things?

"Oh, by the way," Tsunade added, as if something had just occurred to her. "Sensei, I'm a bit

short on money right now. Could you calculate how much merit and contribution I've earned, and exchange it all for cash? I'm practically broke these days."

"Cough, cough!!"

"All of it? Into cash?" Third Hokage's eyes widened, his voice rising several notches.

It's true that military merits and contributions can be exchanged for money, but very few ninjas would actually do so.

That's because keeping those merits recorded allows you to rise in ninja ranks and exchange for the jutsus or other things you want. If any other ninja had asked to cash out their merits, the Third Hokage might have laughed. But when the person asking is Tsunade, the Third Hokage wasn't laughing-in fact, his hands were trembling.

"That's right, exchange it all. I want to buy a nice house near the Daimyō's residence. And by the way, sensei, you took a lot of things from the Senju Clan, didn't you? How do you plan on accounting for that?"

When Konoha was founded, every clan contributed something-jutsu scrolls, materials, and more. The Senju Clan was no exception, offering much without compensation.

After the clan was dissolved and became common folk, many of those items became the village's property. No one had ever bothered to calculate what was owed-until now, as Tsunade wanted to bring up that very tab.

"Tsunade, that's not how we calculate things," the Third Hokage said, his mouth dry.

"Oh, really? Then let's just count what's mine. Even if the village doesn't support it, I can still exchange my merits for money, right? Oh, and while you're at it, convert all of Usagi Xin's as well—he's also looking to buy a house near the Daimyō's place. We'll be living there soon."

"What?!" Third Hokage finally realized something was very wrong.

Tsunade was planning to throw in the towel-just like Xin. They were both done playing the game. Whatever the village wanted to do, they didn't care anymore.

They weren't even going to argue. They were simply going to step back, let the village do as it pleased, and watch from afar.
