Third Person POV
North.
...
...
It could be said that Vornaxis was shocked on that very same day, since something was about to happen in his beautiful and fabulous home.
While he slept peacefully in the vault surrounded by gold on all sides, he suddenly sneezed, seeming to sense that something bad was about to happen.
"Could it just be my imagination?" Vornaxis murmured, still lying on the gold, unable to keep himself from looking toward the door. "Could those dwarves be plotting something again?"
Ever since he came here more than four years ago, he had become enchanted with gold. He didn't know exactly how his body had simply flown there in the beginning. Ignavros said that he had been controlled by that powerful human after they lost when they encountered him, and when he was free to leave, Vornaxis refused to go.
He had found true happiness in that gold. Seeing all those golden and gleaming things every day, easily lighting them up with his flames, was the true pleasure of life that he had never found before, not even in the Valley of Dragons, living among his own kind.
How could they ignore such a metal? It was beautiful, and he had to possess it. So he no longer cared about anything else. He only left through a hole he had made in the cave to hunt for food among the mountains, without showing himself to the humans living near the mountain range.
The dwarves certainly didn't like that at all. At first, they shouted at him and appeared with weapons in their hands, threatening to reclaim the gold he had set his eyes on. And as one of the dragons, creatures at the top of that world's food chain, Vornaxis would never allow such insignificant creatures to reclaim what now belonged to him.
So, wave after wave of dwarves trying to drive him out of that place or kill him were suppressed by his flames, incinerating all of them, to the point that the dwarves stopped attacking him after the fourth wave.
Seeing that he was slaughtering everyone they sent, they seemed frustrated, but still remained there, separated by a massive iron door that Vornaxis never had any interest in breaking. If they came, he would simply drive them away. Some thieves also appeared from time to time, but Vornaxis had always been instinctive. He could smell them, and when those damned creatures were caught, all they could do was run in fear and scream while he amused himself hunting those little rats trying to escape. Most never managed to get away, although he allowed some to survive out of sheer interest and amusement so they could tell others just how terrifying he was.
And so he spent the best four years of his life in such a paradise. He lived incredibly well and could even hibernate for months. Perhaps he would only leave to breed at some point in the coming decades, and for that, he would have to return to the Valley of Dragons.
It was a shame that he couldn't take all that gold with him. Perhaps he could talk to the Golden Dragons, using their magic somehow, but then he would also have to share that gold... Which wouldn't be the least bit appealing to him. Vornaxis didn't want to share it with anyone. He had even threatened Ignavros, saying that if he told anyone about that place, he would tear off one of his wings.
Even though Ignavros had told a rather strange story about what had happened in the Valley of Dragons, Vornaxis didn't pay much attention to it. That human had grown absurdly powerful, and now Ignavros even lived in the upper part of the valley after the valley went mad and he fought alongside his friend against dragons controlled by a demon... It was certainly impressive, but Vornaxis cared much more about his gold, so he merely looked at all of it with disdain and didn't want to hear any more.
Anyway, everything was going well until something happened that day. Suddenly, something came through the opening Vornaxis used to enter and leave, flying at high speed and crashing directly into the middle of the gold, making him raise his head in fury.
"Those dwarves... What are they doing this time?" Vornaxis growled. They were certainly trying another tactic, now even using an opening in the mountain to reach him.
At the same time, inside the mountain, a dwarf sitting on a throne suddenly sneezed.
"Someone must be talking about me..." he said, a little drowsily, before remembering something. His thoughts immediately went to the gold that had been taken by the dragon shortly after he had encountered those terrifying humans whom he had tried to kill to prevent them from telling anyone about his wealth.
Perhaps it was a curse from the gods for having tried to kill the people who had helped him, just to prevent them from spreading word throughout the kingdoms that he possessed all that gold. Because it wasn't long afterward that a dragon simply appeared and claimed the entire fortune for itself.
At that time, there had been a giant worm inside the gold chamber that no dwarf could deal with. But when he saw that a witcher had arrived accompanied by two children, he immediately suggested that they deal with the creature if they wanted to cross to the other side of the mountain. Of course, if the witcher actually managed to deal with the monster, they would have to kill him afterward because of the gold.
What he hadn't imagined was that one of those children would be utterly terrifying. The vision that boy showed him, in which he and his race were destroyed by a force while they could only watch their own destruction without being able to do anything, frightened him deeply.
That human certainly could have claimed all the gold for himself, but he didn't, and he even let them live. The dwarf had breathed a sigh of relief back then, but then the dragon came.
Vornaxis simply appeared and killed everyone who tried to drive him out of the vault. He was far worse than that worm. The king even sent some men after the witcher to search for those children. It was no wonder they had dealt with the worm so easily. He wanted to hire them again, with as much shameless audacity as possible, to try to deal with the dragon, but he was never able to find them.
Of course, by this point, he already knew their names and certainly had a good idea of who they were, since they were now known throughout the entire continent. Even so, he wanted to recover the lost gold and was growing desperate.
Then, an explosive sound suddenly erupted, making the entire mountain tremble. The dwarf on the throne quickly raised his head, stunned.
"What's happening?" he asked, while the other dwarves also began to panic, not knowing what to say.
After some time, someone came running toward him. "My lord! Something is happening in the vault area!" the dwarf said, frightened.
The king couldn't help but stare at him in shock.
"What... What is this?" he murmured.
Anyway, a little earlier, while Vornaxis was cursing the dwarves and watching what had fallen onto his gold, he saw a woman with flaming red hair, eyes of the same color, and a red dress appear. She stared at him with a look of recognition, without any trace of fear, seeming to show more disdain than anything else.
"You... Who are you?" the dragon said, surprised as he watched the woman smile while walking toward him.
"Oh, what do we have here? So this is where you've been hiding for years," the woman said, as though she had some authority over him or already knew him.
"Who are you?" Vornaxis growled once again, flames already showing in his mouth.
"You dare threaten me with fire?" she said disdainfully.
Vornaxis roared at her this time, the force of the wind blowing her hair backward in response.
However, she seemed indifferent, raising her pinky to scratch one of her ears as though she had a slight itch. "You call that a roar?" she asked before looking around at all that gold. "It seems I'll have to teach you how you should treat your superiors. From what I can see, it seems you've become addicted to this human metal and don't even recognize anyone anymore. You're a disgrace to dragons, acting like a wild animal."
She simply shot forward, blasting the gold beneath her feet, while Vornaxis barely had time to react. By the time he realized it, she was already above his head, delivering a punch that crushed the entire side of his face. The impact immediately sent his enormous body flying backward, making him crash into the piles of gold with an explosive sound before slamming hard into the wall, causing the entire mountain to tremble.
Compared to what Ciri and Pyraethra had done in their fight, reaching the point of destroying entire mountains with their punches, that was basic, but more than enough for the Dragon Queen to teach a good lesson to a rebellious dragon who should have been obeying rather than questioning her.
"You... How are you so strong?" Vornaxis roared before feeling something grab his tail.
"You really don't know who I am? That's disgusting," the queen said as she began to use her strength.
Vornaxis could only watch as his body began to be dragged by his own tail. He couldn't believe that such a small being could possess such strength, and in the next instant, he went flying, crashing into the wall once again. Before he could do anything, she pulled him again and hurled him into the gold.
The dragon was stunned. "How... Who are you?" he growled before seeing the woman land on his snout.
She simply crossed her arms with a smile.
"Tsk, what am I supposed to do with you? Can't you recognize someone superior to you?"
A realization began to dawn on Vornaxis, to the point that he started sweating as he thought that perhaps he wasn't standing before a human. Maybe he was facing a Golden Dragon transformed into a human. How had he not realized it before?
Vornaxis finally began to notice that this person didn't possess a human aura, not even one similar to that terrifying human woman he had met years ago. It was a completely different presence. The presence of a dragon.
He soon realized it.
He was standing before a dragon transformed into a human. The only one who could do that... was a Golden Dragon, since they were the only ones he knew capable of doing such a thing, and certainly a dragon far superior to him.
Panic began to rise in Vornaxis's heart. A Golden Dragon had found him. It had found his fortune and would now steal everything from him. Vornaxis wouldn't be able to do anything to stop it.
It was at that moment that another shadow appeared through the entrance, just as large as he was. His eyes immediately turned toward that figure, recognizing his old friend.
It was him! Ignavros had told the Golden Dragon! How dare he? Vornaxis thought they were friends!
All of this raced through his mind, but he was incapable of saying anything in front of the supposed Golden Dragon before him.
"What... What are you doing here?" he said fearfully, already imagining that his gold would be stolen.
"Vornaxis, don't you recognize her?" Ignavros asked cautiously.
Vornaxis shook his head. He didn't know that human form. How could he recognize her? Perhaps he wouldn't even recognize her in her draconic form, since he couldn't have contact with the dragons that lived in the upper part of the Valley of Dragons. He wasn't even allowed to fly over that region. Any dragon without permission to enter was forbidden from doing so.
"She... She's Pyraethra, the Dragon Queen, Vornaxis. She's not a Golden Dragon, she's the great red dragoness, the largest in the valley!" Ignavros finally said.
Vornaxis couldn't help but widen his eyes as he stared at the woman still standing on his snout.
Of course the Dragon Queen knew about his stay there. How could she not? And if she asked anything, Ignavros was obligated to give her all the information.
"Y-Your Majesty..." Vornaxis said very carefully.
His voice echoed throughout the vault, even reaching the dwarves who now had their ears pressed directly against the rocks and the entrance door, trying to hear what was happening inside the vault. They couldn't help but stare at one another in shock.
The dragon was saying those words with great fear.
They had never imagined they would see a dragon in their lives, given how rare they were, until one stole their vault, and they had never even considered in their wildest imaginations that dragons had a queen. Some were even tempted to open the door to see what was happening, but they certainly didn't want to get involved in any of that. If a single dragon was already an enormous problem, imagine finding out what their queen could do...
"Very well. You will serve your queen and give me a certain amount of that gold," she simply said.
"Your Majesty... why? Why are you interested in gold?" Vornaxis asked cautiously.
Ignavros didn't even have the courage to explain the reason, leaving the queen herself to answer.
She still had that smug look on her face. "I have a plan, and my plan is to become involved in human society. So I need to acquire a house. But anyway, I'm not here to answer your questions. I just want the gold, understood?" she said.
Vornaxis could only nod. Seeing this, the queen jumped off the dragon's snout and soon began examining all those piles of gold.
"Damn... I'm jealous of magical humans. Some of them can use teleportation and store things away like that human man and woman do..."
She hadn't seen Ciri storing her things, but she had seen how her teleportation worked, and Madara could do it as well. Ignavros had also told her that he had seen Madara many times placing objects inside his scrolls. So it was obvious that humans could possess some kind of spatial magic.
'I feel like I should learn a few things from humans. That seems quite useful,' the queen couldn't help but think as she remembered that.
Perhaps she could learn some interesting things there. As a dragon, she had never needed to worry about storing things; after all, her mere presence was enough to claim practically anything. But those abilities seemed quite useful for carrying objects and also for teleporting.
After all, she could fly quickly wherever she wanted, but teleportation seemed like a much more convenient concept. She was already tired of flying around everywhere and, considering what she had decided, she might still travel extensively throughout the human world.
"It seems I'll have to find some kind of sack. Isn't there anything here?" she asked, while Vornaxis looked thoughtful. At least, without something to carry the gold in, she wouldn't be able to take very much.
But he couldn't try to lie to the queen. He had already growled at her, and he could die for that... How was he supposed to know it was Her Majesty standing in front of him?! Maybe the gold was destroying his reason...
"Hm... Ah! I know. Behind that door, they probably have some kind of thing you can use to carry the gold," Vornaxis informed her, trying to at least be useful, even though he was crying inside because he was going to lose some gold.
All the dwarves behind the entrance began to feel a shiver run down their spines. They hadn't even entered the vault to check what was happening, but somehow, the problem had been brought to them as well.
"Very well. Let's see what I can get," the queen said, already sensing the numerous lives behind that door.
She moved forward and threw a punch, easily breaking through the entrance to the vault and thus entering the Dwarven Kingdom with a demanding smile.
The poor creatures immediately began to flee at the sight of the woman walking through the ruined area, with the dented door lying in another corner of the chamber after being hurled away.
They had never imagined that the Dragon Queen could be such a graceful woman in her human form, but her title and what they had witnessed quickly demonstrated the danger she represented. After all, that woman had just easily subdued the very same monster against which they could do nothing.
So, all the dwarves could do was flee or tremble before her.
