[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]
Third Person POV
Skellige.
...
...
They were side by side on a narrow trail, atop their horses, having just left the forest after committing a massacre along the way as all kinds of monsters tried to attack them for being there.
But they cleared the path easily with their current skills and now they were there, riding peacefully while enjoying the island's view. After all, that place could provide a great view, being elevated on a small mountain. Below them, the morning mist still lingered, with a gentle touch filling the forest and the sea in the distance. There was also a great mountain in the center of the island, where, without a doubt, the giant they were looking for resided.
But that wasn't important now. They just wanted to enjoy the island first.
Madara was observing the place. He could see some villages by the sea and even some larger cities farther away.
The Skellige Isles were much bigger than they had been in the game, and remembering this place, everything seemed much larger.
All that destruction caused by the giant — destroying villages, making everyone flee — still felt unbelievable. He couldn't imagine that a giant could defeat thousands of humans, even with its size. Many could gang up on it and inflict injuries. After all, Geralt killed it, and a witcher should be equivalent to 10 or 20 ordinary people in Madara's opinion.
But that was a game. It couldn't be real. And it also didn't mean that people wouldn't treat the giant like a god or something.
In any case, they were passing through another great landscape along the rocky side of the smaller mountain as they descended. There was little mist now, and there was a series of waterfalls in the forest, allowing them to see that work of nature from an elevated angle.
Ciri was enchanted, while Madara didn't find it bad.
After continuing on, and finally reaching the forest at the island's normal level, they encountered a group of men with some carts as they reached a main road that connected one city to another on the island — and they quickly received curious and suspicious looks.
Madara and Ciri weren't necessarily wearing anything to cover their faces. Their youthful and exotic appearances, riding alone through that forest. At the same time, there was a girl with a sword on her back, and the boy had nothing visible. So it was normal for people to look at them as anything but ordinary, and clearly not from Skellige.
But that didn't matter. Only the silent stares passed over them as they continued, wanting to visit some of the villages and cities first.
And so they went on, entering a place where they found a rather lively city, with people shouting at one another.
Men were working, bringing tree logs from felled trees to be used as firewood or even in house construction.
"Hey, Madara, is that an arena?" Ciri asked as they continued leading their horses through the city, seeing the massive circular structure but unable to see what was inside — so she could only imagine.
"Looks like it," Madara commented.
"I'd love to go there, Madara," she said.
He nodded as he brought the horse near what looked like a tavern, still receiving the stares of everyone in the city, since their appearances were quite different from the local people.
As they had already seen in Ard Skellige, the people of the isles didn't like outsiders from outside Skellige very much.
As they dismounted, a boy came running up to them. He looked a bit dirty, but he carried a bucket and looked excitedly at the two.
"Hey, can I clean your horses? I can also make their coats shine!" he exclaimed excitedly.
Ciri looked at him and smiled.
"Of course, we'd be delighted," she replied.
Money wasn't a problem. She'd be happy to help him, as she took out a coin and tossed it to him. She had a huge amount of gold after doing all those jobs before heading to Redania.
Despite that, Madara still kept a large portion of her gold, stored in one of his scrolls.
"Is this for me?" asked the boy, his eyes gleaming.
The boy's eyes lit up brightly upon hearing that from the woman as he quickly grabbed the coin.
"Thank you so much, miss! Are you an angel or something?!" — he exclaimed, as Ciri blushed at the compliment.
"I'm not an angel, but thank you," she murmured, looking at Madara with a smile after hearing that from an innocent child.
"But you're the prettiest lady I've ever seen! Everyone says my sister is pretty, but she doesn't even compare to you, with your snow-colored hair! Is it magic?" the boy exclaimed.
"Thank you..." Ciri replied, flustered, ruffling the boy's hair.
"Looks like you have an admirer. Should I be jealous?" Madara smiled beside her as Ciri burst out laughing.
"Since when did you become someone who tells jokes? Tell me, who are you and what have you done with Madara?" she found it amusing, and Madara just shrugged.
"Anyway, let's enjoy the city," Ciri said, and he agreed.
"Hey, if you want to explore the city, I'm sure my friend can help you! He's near the square over there, selling cookies his grandma makes. I'm sure he'll help! His name's Deric," the boy said cheerfully.
"We'll keep that in mind. See you later!" Ciri said to the boy, and he nodded.
"Bye, lady angel! And serious-faced sir!" he waved, while Madara huffed.
"He says that after I tell a joke?" Madara grumbled as Ciri started laughing again.
"That was good. It's a start. People usually say you have a scary face... Not like you're ugly, though," Ciri teased, while he just shrugged, and they continued through the city, finding the mentioned square.
There, they saw a little boy standing in the middle of it, selling cookies. Ciri seemed to remember what the previous boy had said and approached him.
"Hi, kid. By any chance, are you Deric?" she asked.
Ciri's approach startled the boy a little, but he quickly stood firm, believing she was about to buy his cookies.
"Hi, miss, that's me! Would you like a cookie? They're corn cookies, very tasty and nutritious! They help build strong muscles!" — he said, as if it were a catchphrase he was used to repeating hundreds or thousands of times.
Madara, behind Ciri, raised an eyebrow, questioning internally whether corn really helped build muscles, but he said nothing.
Ciri explained that they wanted to get to know the city. The boy quickly helped them, commenting on some places as they enjoyed the local food.
Ciri seemed to be having as much fun as she did at the horse race event near Novigrad, especially when she found a woman selling cotton candy — Ciri's favorite sweet.
"So, you're not from Skellige, but from the continent?" the boy, who kept trying to sell his cookies while guiding them through the city, asked curiously, clearly excited to have the chance to be someone's guide.
The city was very close to the coast, so many people came from other islands to this one, even though many had a large port directly.
"Exactly, which can't be too hard to tell, since everyone's looking at us with suspicious faces," Ciri commented, laughing as she finished her cotton candy, with Madara refusing to eat so many sweets.
"It's because you're so different... Has anyone ever told you that you're really pretty?" — the boy said shyly.
"Yes, your friend said I was an angel," she replied, as he blushed even more. This one was shyer than the last, and Ciri was enjoying these eight-year-old kids complimenting her beauty.
"Well, he wasn't lying," he murmured at the end.
"Should I be worried?" Madara said from behind, raising an eyebrow in a playful tone.
"Of course not, silly! I'm yours and only yours," Ciri said into his ear, more sensually than he could have asked for.
"And don't think I haven't noticed those women staring at you the whole time, like you're the most exotic thing they've ever seen," Ciri said, pointing to a group of young women gathered at a distance for various reasons, whispering and pointing at Madara as they watched him throughout the city. There were even a few angry glances aimed at Ciri, who stuck her tongue out at them and even kissed Madara in front of everyone just to provoke them.
Ciri was very territorial. She wasn't wrong.
Madara was very different from the men of Skellige. He wasn't as muscular, but he was certainly more handsome than any other face a woman from that island had ever seen.
Well, he was an Uchiha, and it wasn't for nothing that Sasuke had many admirers throughout his life. Even Madara could have had some, if not for the terrifying face he had in the original work.
But this Madara didn't care about any of that.
"So... were you in the war? My dad died in the war," the boy asked suddenly, making Ciri raise an eyebrow.
Many people from Skellige had already died alongside Eist, fighting against Nilfgaard. It was no wonder they lost and had to retreat.
"I'm sorry. How old were you when that happened?" Ciri asked with a concerned tone.
"I was three years old. Mom got really sad and we've been trying to manage since then. She's been bedridden for over two years after having an accident. My grandma and I have been trying to support the house by selling cookies," the boy said.
"Oh... I'm so sorry," Ciri seemed to take the boy's pain as her own. She didn't want a child to live like that. It sounded truly horrible.
"I know... I miss my dad a lot. But there's nothing I can do. At least I heard someone avenged him. Did you hear about the man called Mandala Uricha, who fought the Nilfgaardian army alone and defeated them!" the boy suddenly exclaimed.
Ciri and Madara froze for a moment, looking stunned.
"Mandala Uricha...? Bfff! Hahahahaha!" Ciri burst out laughing loudly, even drawing the attention of some nearby people.
"What's so funny?!" the boy seemed to get upset.
"His name... it's wrong... It's Madara Uchiha." Ciri was still laughing.
"Madara... Uchiha?" the boy tried to pronounce the name, imitating how Ciri said it, though he still struggled a bit.
"What do you mean by that? You heard about... him?" Madara asked, raising an eyebrow.
He hadn't told the boy his name and didn't expect it to be spoken about there, even though the banquet at King Bran's had suggested otherwise. Many people had heard about him, already knowing who he was. He just didn't expect to hear it from a child on an island outside Ard Skellige.
"He's famous in the isles. Everyone knows about him and tells stories... They say he's a man three meters tall, who fought the Nilfgaardian army all by himself. He avenged my dad... It's a shame he didn't show up earlier," the boy said with a sad tone.
"I'm sorry," Ciri murmured, her expression turning somber again.
"No need. Dad died a warrior's death, and for us in Skellige, that's the perfect death. At least he was avenged. One day I want to be like Uchiha Madara, defeat all my enemies," he said with a childlike but determined tone.
Ciri broke into a smile and looked at Madara, not even trying to be subtle, clearly amused and watching him with a certain admiration — the kind she had practically her entire life since they met.
Madara remained silent.
"Anyway, we can head to the arena. I'd like to see how it works," Ciri said in the end, and the boy seemed like he wanted to say more, but at the same time didn't leave the square, staring at the cookies.
Ciri simply took the basket from his hands.
"What are you doing?" he asked, surprised.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm buying all of them from you, how about that?" she said with a smile, and the boy was stunned.
"You're really going to buy them all?" he murmured.
"Of course! You said they give strong muscles. Maybe they'll help develop my arm — I want to throw stronger punches..." she laughed ironically, eating a cookie and handing a coin to the boy.
The boy saw that it was a coin worth far more than all the cookies combined and looked at her with the most sincere expression a child could make in that moment. This would help a lot at home, supporting his grandmother and bedridden mother.
"Thank you so much, miss!" he exclaimed, and then realized something.
"What's your name again?" he asked shyly, remembering he never got their names.
"Doesn't matter now. How about taking us to the arena, huh?" Ciri said, and he quickly nodded, and they headed toward the place.
