[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]
Third Person POV
Skellige.
...
...
Madara saw Ciri entering the arena, smiling as she looked at Madara with her arms crossed in a corner.
They had entered the arena to watch the city men fight with wooden axes and swords. There were some bets, and anyone could join as long as there was a spot available.
They watched about three fights until Ciri seemed bored with the fact that they fought nothing like what she was used to — fighting monsters and dangerous situations.
And it was when the third fight ended that the winner looked at the crowd, seeing many people in the stands betting, that he threw out his challenge to have another fight. Otherwise, he would have to leave, since there were no more challengers, and that was the rule.
"Who wants to face me? The great Mountain?!" he shouted to everyone, while the man was tall, but nothing intimidating in the eyes of Madara and Ciri. But Derek seemed excited.
No one seemed willing to go fight the tall man who called himself the Mountain; he seemed to be famous for being tough.
"I accept!" Everyone looked at them when Ciri raised her hand and shouted.
The place went silent for a moment, until the Mountain made a face on the arena floor.
"Wait, you're challenging me, girl? A girl?!" he shouted, mocking, while everyone started laughing at Ciri.
"You can't be serious... miss." Derek went pale with Ciri.
Madara said nothing and knew Ciri would respond to that provocation.
"So I assume you're afraid of a girl... I've faced things that would make you piss yourself in fear." Ciri mocked.
"Hahaha. This one's got guts, Mountain... What are you gonna do?" another man laughed near them, shouting to his friend in the arena.
Mountain grimaced.
"You're trying to show off, shouting that you want to challenge me when your little boy is right beside you in silence. Is he too scared to defend his girl?" he mocked, drawing more laughter, this time directed at Madara.
But Madara just shrugged. He didn't care about any of it.
"Give me a wooden sword." Ciri simply said.
Madara nodded and summoned a sword from his storage seal, making it appear in front of Ciri, who quickly grabbed it.
Everyone stared at the surprise burst while Derek seemed to cough at it, and they watched Ciri walk to the edge of the arena near the stairs, then simply jump, surprising everyone in the stands as she landed inside the arena.
It wasn't a small height, but four meters was something anyone should worry about. But for Ciri, it was nothing, as she landed calmly, surprising everyone as she kept walking toward the center of the arena.
"What are you doing?" the man made a face while Ciri shrugged.
"It doesn't matter... what you need to know is that I'm your opponent right now, and you better be ready." Ciri mocked.
Even the people around the arena stopped laughing as Ciri got into a fighting stance in front of the Mountain.
"Girl... I don't know who you are, clearly a foreigner, but don't come at me with this nonsense of trying to face me. Go back to your husband before you get hurt. If he wants to fight, let him come — I'm not going to fight you just because he's too much of a coward to do it himself."
The man said, spitting on the ground while Ciri said nothing, only holding her stance with the wooden sword.
"Hey, we should do something! She can't really be facing the Mountain?! He's the greatest warrior on the island!"
The boy exclaimed to Madara beside him.
"No need to worry. Ciri knows what she's doing — she likes to show off."
Madara mocked as he watched the man turn his strange gaze toward Ciri, still standing before her opponent.
She was much smaller compared to the man — no wonder everyone in the arena was mocking Ciri.
"You're too damn annoying."
The man mocked, seeing that the girl hadn't moved and was still waiting for him to take his stance.
"Alright! Just don't blame me for what's about to happen to you!"
He mocked as he stepped into a fighting stance too.
"Come at me with everything — you're going to need it."
Ciri said.
With the last sliver of his patience gone, the large man decided to humor the spoiled girl and charged at her with his wooden axe.
But expecting to deal with her easily, he was in for a surprise when she moved faster than anyone he'd ever seen.
People from Skagos weren't exactly known for speed, but this was beyond abnormal — she was already at his side while he was still swinging at where she had been just moments before.
She moved her arm just as swiftly, and he was already falling to the ground, losing his balance as he felt a sharp pain in his legs after being struck there by her.
Everyone in the arena saw the great Mountain simply fall face-first to the ground while Ciri stood calmly near where he had fallen.
No one could say what had just happened as the place fell into silence.
"Her!"
Derek shouted in shock beside Madara, who only smiled.
"Hey, what did she do?!"
Someone asked in the arena, unable to understand how Ciri had done what she did.
"Ahh..."
The Mountain groaned, trying to get up as Ciri stared at him with indifference.
"Are you going to take this seriously, or will I have to knock you down a few more times?"
She mocked, and the man seemed to be getting more and more furious as he stood up and stared at her without saying anything — just seething.
He got ready and attacked again, and Ciri didn't dodge as she saw the strike coming toward her — instead, she parried it with greater force than her opponent, catching the man off guard and throwing him off balance to the side.
Ciri advanced and struck the back of his head.
He blacked out the next moment — his vision went dark — and everyone watched in shock as the man collapsed unconscious in the middle of the arena.
"He lost?!"
People started murmuring, unable to believe what they had just seen.
"She won..."
Derek murmured in shock as Madara smiled.
"Seems like it," he said.
Ciri's gaze left the fallen man as she turned back to the arena.
"Anyone else?!" she challenged.
"You've got to be kidding..."
Someone said while the Mountain was being carried out unconscious and everyone still stared at Ciri in disbelief.
"I accept! I'll show the power of my axe!"
Another shouted and did the same as Ciri — going to the edge of the arena and jumping.
"AHH!"
Everyone heard the man's groan as he hurt his legs after jumping down like that.
Ciri winced as the man lay on the ground screaming after jumping from the same height she had, but his body didn't seem nearly as prepared as hers — he practically broke his legs, or at least fractured them at the very least.
That resulted in a general burst of laughter from all around the place, everyone finding it hilarious.
"Bring another... but use the stairs this time."
Ciri mocked from the arena, and instead of drawing anger from the men, her remark made everyone laugh.
"I like this one. I'll see for myself how she really beat the Mountain — I'm going in."
A man said, heading into the arena — but using the stairs this time — while picking up a wooden axe and walking toward Ciri.
Derek looked mesmerized as he watched Ciri fight another opponent after they removed the man who had hurt his legs.
This fight was a bit better than the Mountain's — after all, Ciri didn't have to prove much anymore.
However, the fight didn't last much longer than that, and the man, though surprised to be facing a girl so skilled in footwork and fencing, drawing more interest from the crowd than anything else that day, was defeated shortly after — without Ciri even needing to knock him out.
"Damn..."
The man got up with pain in his ribs, clutching his side, trying to ease the ache from Ciri's strike.
"You got me good there, girl," he said, walking back as everyone laughed at him.
"I must say, the girl is an excellent warrior! No doubt her fight with the Mountain wasn't a fluke."
He announced, earning a few applauses.
Even Derek seemed excited as he looked at Ciri with shining eyes — he never imagined the pretty girl could defeat men twice her size.
"Anyone else?"
Ciri shouted as her opponent left.
"I'll go!"
Another shouted, running into the arena via the stairs.
Another fight began, and the man fell, crashing his face into the ground, with everyone clapping and laughing.
"She's really good!"
People had gone from being skeptical and mocking to applauding Ciri as if standing before a living legend, recognizing her skills.
That drew even more people from outside, hearing the shouts in the arena — after all, the place wasn't usually this lively unless there was a major event. It was mostly used for warriors to train with each other and make a little money with bets.
Ciri was quickly becoming an attraction as more and more people entered the place looking for answers about what was happening, asking why there was a young girl standing at the entrance, only to be told she was challenging one opponent after another — and no one could beat her.
People mocked the story, and those who told it simply shrugged and invited them to challenge her. That led to over 15 challenges for Ciri since she arrived, defeating each one after the other, her name now being cheered as the arena grew more crowded than ever, drawing in the city's residents.
A large man tried to swing a wooden sword at Ciri — he used that kind of weapon instead of the traditional axe — but she simply parried it with more strength than the big man himself.
What was increasingly unbelievable to her opponent was where such strength came from.
He saw her attack and quickly moved to defend himself, only for Ciri to throw him off balance with the clash of swords in a desperate move, before striking his legs and making him fall to the ground, her wooden sword now pointed at his neck.
"You lost."
She announced, while he gave a calm smile.
"Seems like it."
He got up and began to leave the arena.
"Hey, aren't you going to say your name?"
Someone shouted, as Ciri had been asked that since her third fight — but she'd said she'd only reveal it if she were defeated.
She didn't answer and simply let everyone applaud her performance as she gave a smile.
But her gaze landed on Madara sitting there, with Derek excitedly clapping beside him.
"You can't come down here to challenge me this time... my husband?"
She said playfully, since everyone believed she was his wife — and she didn't mind, since they would be married in a few days.
"You want this fight...?"
Madara asked, raising an eyebrow while Derek looked surprised and everyone around went silent.
"Of course."
Ciri smiled, and Madara nodded, pushing off the ground with chakra as he launched upward over 5 meters, drawing a surprised chorus from the crowd. He spun in the air and landed in the center of the arena effortlessly, with everyone understanding exactly what had just happened.
Madara ignored them all and pulled a wooden katana from his scroll, looking at Ciri to accept her challenge.
"Then let's have a little dance. But no powers or jutsus."
He said, while she flashed a smile, ignoring the stunned looks all around them.
"Of course. Just a sword spar."
Ciri said with the widest smile she could give.
