The rain continued all night.
Mia stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window with her arms crossed, quietly watching the rain hit the glass.
The whole world was calm, but her heart felt restless.
"You're up so early?"
The familiar voice came from behind, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Mm." She didn't turn around, just looked at William through the reflection in the glass.
He got out of bed, still wearing the same clothes from yesterday, but his white shirt was wrinkled and stained. Last night, she had wiped her tears and snot on his shoulder.
He came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her affectionately. "This is the first time I've slept so soundly in over a year."
She knew he was always a light sleeper. In the past, he could sense her getting up, but last night, he slept soundly.
"What about Lucas?" he asked, leaning on her shoulder.
"Aunt Grace took him downstairs to feed him..."
