"The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. These were the Emperor's thoughts regarding his son." Thoughts of Naerys, the Maiden of Purity, after seeing the God Emperor's disappointed expression.
---------------
Information about the secret bases of the organization called True Humans was delivered to Aenar's eight sons and daughters. With Aenar's orders, everyone looked at Alysanne, awaiting her commands.
As the supreme commander of this operation, they had to obey Alysanne in all orders and nothing else. Of course, Alysanne knew that her brothers and sisters wanted to leave as soon as possible. Something she also wanted, so she gave the order.
"Summon the Battle Sisters; we will decimate these filthy rats." Alysanne gave the orders in a calm and deep tone. Her eyes met Aegon's with a smile, as if seeing his true face.
Honestly, after a thousand years, she understood why her aunt had given up on Aegon. Someone born to betray will betray. It was his immutable nature. People don't change; they merely hide this flaw by adding layers to their personality. But, at the slightest temptation, he or she will reveal their true self.
Just like Daenerys, Alysanne had already given up on Aegon. Perhaps the only person who truly loved Aegon was still her father, and he would continue to love him even after Aegon's death. Her father loved all his sons and daughters; this would not change, not even with his death.
In Alysanne's eyes, perhaps this was her father's only flaw, which made him still mortal in mind. The love he felt, this love made him more human than a truly divine being.
It was said that divinity was cold, indifferent, and rational, while humanity was emotional and irrational.
Did Alysanne love? Yes, she loved, but as it was her nature to remain cold and indifferent to make decisions, she could destroy that love if necessary, just as she did with the love she felt for her little brother.
In the end, perhaps this was her flaw; her nature was more divine than human, but it was because of this that Aenar chose her to inherit the throne should anything happen to him or if he were forced to sleep.
With Alysanne's orders, all of Aenar's sons and daughters stood up, smiles on all their faces.
The Imperial City, which had never had such a grand event in a thousand years, was alarmed by the imperial ships flying over the city that occupied half an continent. The most shocking thing was that the sons and daughters of the gods were actually commanding this entire operation.
It was the first time the population saw the imperial princes and princesses fighting personally; they had to admit, they were true gods among men. Beings as beautiful as they were strong, capable of doing what no normal human could.
Aegon, who had just entered one of the heretics' bases, was accompanied by a hundred Battle Sisters. Women with short white hair and red eyes, all wearing armored, yet light, feminine armor for better agility.
Suddenly, as Aegon was about to kill everyone present with his blood-stained sword, he stopped and looked at the delicate girl who appeared beside him. How could he not recognize his blood sister?
"Naerys." He greeted the girl who looked like a normal human without any power. He had always envied Naerys, who could always find their father whenever she wished; even Alysanne didn't have so many privileges.
Especially after becoming the Maiden of Purity, renouncing her titles, possessions, and even the right to marry. After that, she was always by her father's side, regardless of the occasion.
"Imperial Prince." Naerys greeted Aegon with a respectful look. After becoming a Virgin Maiden, she renounced titles and possessions; she was essentially a powerless commoner. Aegon had an undeniably high status at that moment. Of course, if anyone disrespected Naerys, they probably wouldn't be alive the next day. She was the God Emperor's maiden.
"The Emperor has ordered this base to be left intact, including the people inside. The Sardaukar will take care of this place." Naerys spoke, and when she said this, the Battle Sisters simply turned around and left without any hesitation.
As part of the Cult of the God Emperor, the God Emperor's orders were absolute. Naerys, who was considered the Voice of God, could represent their god.
Seeing Aegon still standing, looking at her, Naerys repeated in a calm and gentle tone. "The Emperor has ordered this base to be left intact."
"He said he wants the place intact, not that I couldn't enter." When Aegon said this, the gentle smile on Naerys's face widened slightly, and she spoke in an even gentler tone. "If that's how the Imperial Prince interpreted the God Emperor's words, I cannot prevent your entry."
Aegon's smile grew, and he didn't hesitate to enter. He was curious why his father prevented this secret base from being destroyed. Naerys looked at Aegon's back with a smile and disappeared from where she was; her presence was merely an astral body and nothing more.
"My brother is truly like a child, easily influenced, perhaps because our father is involved. But it's interesting, he truly smells of the chaos gods in his soul. It seems there's something evil hidden in the core of the Imperial Palace." Naerys's voice was a distant murmur, full of curiosity and laughter.
"Oh sweet Aegon, you can change your destiny if you wish; this is probably a test from our father. For your sake, I hope you are not tempted."
-
Inside the secret base, Aegon ignored the heretics around him and soon found someone who had the highest status in the place. "Tell me where the vault where you hide your secrets is."
Before Aegon, the man, dressed in an elegant and noble suit, tried to escape the hand that held his neck, but it was a futile movement. Although Aegon was not Alysanne with terrifying physical strength, it was not something a human could endure.
Seeing that he didn't want to speak, a smile appeared on Aegon's face, and he began to torture the man. The torture was simple: suffocate the man until he almost fainted, then release his neck, allowing him to breathe again.
This cycle of despair and hope quickly took effect, and the man began to talk about the most important things in this secret base. Aegon's eyes lit up, knowing that these facilities indeed possessed the heritage of blood magic.
He wanted to laugh, but he restrained himself, understanding why his father prevented the base from being destroyed; even the God Emperor would be tempted to obtain the heritage of blood magic. However, how could Aegon know that Aenar simply had five thousand years of magical heritage from Ancient Valyria?
Under the hostage's guidance, Aegon arrived at a highly protected place. A gigantic glass tube could be seen in the center of the location; there was a green liquid in the glass tube, and floating in the liquid was what appeared to be an adult arm covered in runes.
Aegon's eyes became extremely hot as if he were observing a beautiful naked woman. He could see that the runes contained the heritage of blood magic. This made his heart beat faster. Before him was a part of the heritage of blood magic without having to pay absolutely anything.
Unfortunately, Aegon couldn't know, but everything in this universe distorted by Chaotic Entities, when free, is the most expensive thing in the universe. Killing the man with a simple attack, exploding the hostage's head.
Aegon stepped forward and broke the glass with a punch; green liquid soon spread around. Reaching out to grab the severed arm, the prince even envisioned his ascent to the throne.
But the moment the glass broke, weapons appeared around, firing at Aegon without any hesitation. Huge beams of extremely hot plasma tore through the air and advanced towards Aegon with the intention of killing him on the spot.
Aegon only had time to dodge a few beams, but his hand continued to move towards the dismembered arm. However, it was precisely because Aegon still wanted to grab the dismembered arm containing the heritage of blood magic that a plasma beam simply pierced through his own arm.
Aegon's eyes widened, watching his skin, which was harder than diamond, rupture before the plasma attack. Under his shocked eyes, his own arm was simply brutally torn off.
The pain immediately hit Aegon hard, making him recoil with a roar of pain, anger, and fury. However, he soon regained his composure, but anyone could see that he was simply furious, like a volcano ready to erupt.
"This is good, I can just claim that I was ambushed by unknown enemies and the heritage was stolen in the fight." Trying to console himself that his choice was correct, Aegon murmured, as if trying to convince himself.
However, in a place he couldn't see, a pair of deep purple eyes stared at him with profound disappointment.
"Even after a thousand years, you still haven't managed to control the animal within you." Aenar murmured with a touch of helplessness in his tone.
If Aegon had checked the vault earlier, even for a moment, he would have noticed where the weapons were hidden and prepared himself correctly. But he allowed himself to be controlled by his own arrogance and greed, losing an arm.
"You are still not human, but an animal." Aenar murmured and refused to see the disappointing scene of his son.
