By the same evening, the Champion Tree bloomed. It alone produced three times more flowers than any other usnea tree. It also must've self-fertilised, because the next morning the flowers turned into clusters of seeds.
However, the reinforcements from the nearest sub-hive were already in place and ready to gather them all. I gave them orders to grow a single seed first somewhere on the other side of the ice wall and see what properties the resulting tree had.
Then, if it were dangerous for the bees, it would be sent to the other side of the mountains, where they would use all this danger against the deer.
But this wasn't all I planned for the Champion Tree and its offspring.
Since it was sentient, then, despite its stubborn personality, it could be taught! It could be taught whatever we wanted to teach!
I gave this idea to Whisper and Ambrosia—Whisper as the one responsible for propagandising among humans, and Amby as the one who approved the school programs for young bees.
