"How was it? Did he succeed?" Clarice asked in a hushed tone as she and Yami stood in the kitchen, speaking quietly while Grey and the girls remained in the living room. Finral, as usual, was outside, deep in training.
"He almost did it," Yami sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as he leaned against the counter. "But at the last moment, he suddenly went into a fit. Damn near passed out."
After Grey spasmed from attempting to cultivate his Dantian, they had returned home. Now, in the soft glow of the kitchen light, Yami and Clarice exchanged quiet words about his progress—or lack thereof.
"Honestly, I thought he'd pull through," Clarice admitted, dicing onions with rhythmic precision. "He breezed through the body refinement process faster than I expected."
