(Jack's POV)
Kai sat beside me, staring out the window like it was a firing squad.
Her fear was a physical thing—it filled the space between us. I could feel her trembling.
"Diara won't come near you again. She is been transported to palace prison right now and Caspian too for his role"
"I'm not thinking of that psycho bitch. I'm thinking of mom. Marie will hate me," she whispered. "I snuck out. Got kidnapped. Brought chaos to her doorstep. Again"
"Oh, she hates you" I teased even though I know I shouldn't.
"Really?"She pressed her forehead to the glass. "Oh God! Maybe... just drop me off here. On the side of the road. Drive away. Find someone... worthy of your family. Someone who isn't trouble."
The car came to screeching stop. "Okay. Bye"
She stared at me in surprise. Her mouth twisting like she was about to start crying. I couldn't keep it up any more.
"Oh baby, I'm sorry. It's a joke. It's a joke"
"Not funny!" She screamed.
