Chapter 14 - En-Route to the Calamity

After a short break of silence, Khalid sat back up and questioned-

'So? Care to explain?'

'Uhh... to be honest, I've been feeling the calls of Truthstain for a while, and my family all know, its just... a mission, they said I need to finish a mission before they can let me go in my trial. Although, that process seems to have been pulled back a lot earlier than expected.'

'Yeah, I could have guessed that. I mean explain what you can do.'

'To be honest, I don't know.'

'Huh? I thought that Truthstain tells you your abilities.'

'Me too, but it doesn't, it only says - [Hemoprye] - and then a short description below it.'

'Which says?'

'It says... now wait a minute why should i tell you?'

Damn it I almost got that information as well.

'You don't have to. I'm sorry if I pried too much. I forgot one should better keep abilities hidden.'

Smiling at Khalid she replies - 'Its okay, I believe in you, after all, you could have left easily and let me die. It says - [ A flame meant to burn the very core of its enemies- ignoring all armour and targeting the flow of life itself, their blood becomes fuel, unseen but burns their insides in an ethereal shiny red coloured flame. Victims feel their strength deplete the longer they are burned

But a coin has two sides.

The same flame dances through their bloodstream, but when used on an ally or ones self, it possesses healing abilities, identifying foreign contaminants - mostly poisons, bacteria and harmful substances - causing rapid clotting of open wounds, inability to get sick and lots of similar benefits.]'

'Mhm. Sounds promising. How do you feel though? Stronger? Different?'

'I feel the same and not at the same time, I'm me and not at the same time. Its weird.'

After opening and closing her hands a few times, a large slow grin appeared on her face.

'Say, who is deemed as an ally by Truthstain?'

'Huh? Why are you asking me? Its not like I have... WAIT NO, Elena, dear Elena, lets not get complacent now, did you hear what you told me? "A flame meant to burn its enemies to their very core" -right? Elena? ELENA DON'T.'

Sticking out her hands and pointing at Khalid, she wills her skill, in that moment, the orbs around her eyes, which were completely stationary and perhaps useless, begun to spin around her pupils wildly and each orb begun to emit a red flame in front of her eyes that circled at a fast pace as well.

Now enflamed internally, Khalid felt something, he definitely felt it, it didn't hurt or burn, no. It was rather comforting, he felt as if he was being cleansed His open wound on the left shoulder quickly closed. He felt each muscle separately being healed, his biceps, triceps, abdomen, thighs, chest, neck, all, all felt very potent.

'Woah.'

He said absolutely mesmerised by his body. He felt reborn.

'So you qualify as an ally? Damn it, talk about disappointing.'

'Heh? I literally saved your life, what more do you want.'

'We still have to go to the Fallen Giant's corpse.'

'Changing topic now are we? Anyway I want to change condition, I want to learn that beautiful fighting style.'

'You sure it wasn't me?'

'Yes, very very sure. Now that i think about it, you're not even that pretty.'

'Yah, yah. Anyway, I'll teach you that fighting style for 1 day, and no more training, or i train you for a whole month. Choose whilst we make our way there.'

'Alright'

Walking in the abominations corpse direction, he begun to consider.

Well, realistically, I can train my body myself, or use some students on the campus. But that beautiful fighting style. Still, its not a joke, that looked very incredibly hard to master, or even learn.

After careful considerations, he stopped walking and imagined throwing a coin.

Heads I do the month training, Tails I do the fighting style.

Not to allow fate to choose, but to chose what he hoped the coin to land on.

'Tails it is then.'

'Huh?' said Elena confused.

'Don't mind me, but I have made up my mind. Ill take the fighting style.'

'Good choi.... Woah'

Woah indeed.

Met by a large rib, the size of a four story house, in ascending order, up to a rib three times its size. The ground all round painted in a deep red stain, hundreds, if not thousands of poppies planted, and in similar quantities, one could see the dead warriors weapons half buried underground, swords allowing the lower end and the hilt to be seen, war axes in a similar fashion buried, some dead warriors - presumably rangers- had floating staffs pr bows floating above their grave. Yet all of these had one thing in common. All shared the same flag, the flag representing the governments forces.

'Yeah, I know Elena, woah... Is what I would've said if I hadn't been here more times than I can remember.'

'You? Here? Why? Dead family?'

'Something like that' he muttered not meeting her eyes -'Anyway better get to finishing quick, I need that lesson, and soon.'

'Oh yeah. Alright. Wait for me here. I will take a long time, but i should be back in an hour or two.'

'Tsk. Making me wait again. Well its fine, I have stuff to do anyway.'

Separating from one another, Khalid took this opportunity to look at the notebook once more. This time to attempt to write in it, or see what can be and cant be done with it.

Taking out the pen and ink given to him, he used it to write his name on the back page, ensuring to write as best he could although, coming out alright in the end.

Strangely, Khalid felt tired, very tired, that fight finally caught up to his body.

Surrendering to it, he made his way to a nearby tree, and landed back against the trunk, and fell asleep.
