Entering the cave, Felix led the way carefully as he waved his wand casting various spells to detect traps. Which ended up saving them as they came upon a section where light seemed to shine through. However, Felix felt danger so halting before the light, he didn't let neither John nor Angel pass him.
"Why did you stop?" Angel asked.
"It's a trap." Felix replied.
"Do you know what kind and how it's triggered?" John asked.
"My best guess is it's triggered by the light." Felix pointed at the light.
There is no magic involved but to be able to make such a trap. It is a work of art and surprisingly it held up against time for so long. Then he watched as John conjured a fake rabbit and had it jump into the light and a bunch of spears shot out of the walls.
On a few of the spears a long decomposed corpse hung on. Seeing the scene, Angel slightly jumped while Felix also jumped since the closest spear row was only a couple inches from him. So he sent a small glare at John who shrugged sheepishly.
"My bad." John laughed awkwardly.
"Next time there is a trap, let's not trigger it, ok." Felix suggested heavily. "I rather not have a cave in or be blown up because of curiosity."
After waiting a few moments the mechanism still worked as the spears slowly pulled themselves back into the walls. However, instead of risking themselves, Felix cut space and made a small portal to the other side. A teleportation spell he learned in the last couple years.
"It still amazes me at the magic you can do sometimes." Angel sighed.
"If you want to learn, I will teach you. This one might just take a while as space magic is a bit tricky to get started." Felix offered.
"I will think about it." Angel didn't reject but also didn't accept.
"What about me?" John asked playfully.
"I will teach you too." Felix looked at him puzzled why he was asking.
John sighed at this, but they continued on their way. The next trap they came upon was a pitfall that either was triggered or collapsed on itself. For a very deep hole blocked their path and was curious about it. Felix flicked a light ball down and basically saw just a very deep hole.
"How should we get across?" Felix hummed.
Then he conjured a whip and attempted to grab a stone beam above them. However, after a few tries, he gave up. It was both a bit tiring and he wasn't very good with a whip. So ignoring his two friends laughing, he just made a bridge across and walked it.
"Magic sort of feels like cheating." John commented.
Felix shot a glare that basically said 'I told you so', but didn't actually comment. For ahead, going up a small stone staircase, there stood a pedestal. On top, the golden idol they came all this way for sat as light shone upon the gold dazzling them.
"It looks well made." John tried to praise it.
"I'm more curious why it is so shiny despite sitting for so long." Angel frowned.
Felix also noted this as there didn't seem to be a lot of dust or dirt around despite light seeming to shine upon it. So carefully going up the steps while Angel and John watched for they were fairly narrow stairs. Felix found he was actually a bit wrong on both the dust and light, but didn't care.
Grabbing a bag, he filled it with some dirt to match the weight of the idol. For he felt a sense of danger to it and guessed picking it up would trigger a trap. So in quick hands he swapped the two happily for getting his first treasure. However, either he miscalculated or another reason, the small button the idol sat upon began to lower.
"This might be bad." Felix said.
Then they heard it, the sound of something large rolling. Looking up Felix turned around and began to run quickly with John and Angel a step ahead. Behind them was a giant boulder rolling after them and picking up speed.
"Why did you trigger the trap!" Angel shouted.
"I didn't mean to. I thought it was fine, but the mechanism might have an extra piece outside of the weight." Felix replied.
"Who cares, just hurry to the pit!" John shouted quickly. "This thing is gaining speed."
Tossing the idol into his suitcase for the time being, Felix transformed into his animagus form, while holding his suitcase in his mouth. He ran faster since the boulder was catching up. Luckily they all made it across the pit barely before the boulder rolled and fell down with a loud thud.
Transforming back, Felix let out a few deep breaths before smiling at his two friends as he began to laugh.
"I told you it would be fun."
Both his friends just rolled their eyes at him. Which made him laugh a bit harder.
"So, shall we leave and begin heading to the next treasure?"
