Isolde was leaned against the wall with her eyes shut when she heard the door open. She straightened her back immediately and stood straight.
She was standing some distance away, and she watched as Raula approached, wheeling herself forward. She did not expect it when Raula stopped close to her, and Isolde felt her heart stop as their eyes met. For a moment, as fear gripped her totally, she wondered if Raula could see right through her—if she could hear her heartbeat, or if she knew that Isolde was there last night in the room when she had come in to kill Selene.
But then Raula let out a low hiss and threw a disgusted look at Isolde before an Omega came over from the opposite side of the hall. It was Roe. She took control of Raula's wheelchair, pushing her away, and the moment she left, Isolde felt like her heart finally started beating again because it had stopped initially.
