Chapter 291 - Not a dream

Lu Jinchen woke up with a sharp breath, his heart racing. "Yuqing!" he called out.

A voice answered instead, soft and trembling. "Jinchen, you're awake!"

He turned his head and saw his mother sitting by his side. Her eyes were swollen and red, but he barely noticed. All he cared about was one thing. "Mom, where's Yuqing?"

His mother froze. She looked at him with a strange, almost guilty expression. Her lips parted, but no sound came out.

"Mom?" His voice grew firmer, edged with impatience. "Where's Yuqing?"

She opened her mouth again, struggling. "Jinchen… she…" She stopped, the words choking in her throat.

Lu Jinchen frowned, forcing a laugh, "You know, Mom, I had the strangest dream. I dreamed we were celebrating my birthday. Everything was perfect, and then… Yuqing asked me for a divorce." He chuckled, almost relieved. "How ridiculous is that? Why would she ask for a divorce? She loves me. She was going to confess her feelings to me. Isn't that absurd?"
